I may increase my stars after a year of membership. For anyone who is deciding on what free gift to get, don't get the spider bag. The picture is very deceiving lol. The bag is so small, it made me laugh till I cried. Just a heads up. Lol

I turned 65 a few months ago, so I need a Medicare Advantage Plan. I read and studied the AARP information that pointed to United Health Care, I enrolled, and got conformation for the application. I have been skeptical about AARP, but when the information seemed credible, I renewed. Then today, I got a letter saying I'm denied for coverage. I called the "help" number only to talk to a nice person trying to up-sale me. It makes no sense; I qualify, but I was told I need another paying plan for my own good. On Monday afternoon, after a beer or two, I'm calling to demand my membership money back (I'll be nice and not make it personal). I was right all along and should have known better! I looked online and found they have low ratings. Also, I feel sorry for these folks working minimum wage on the phone for billion dollar plus companies.

Don't trust these folks
In November of 2017 we received a letter from AARP advising us that due to an actuarial re-look they applied for approval of a 23.1% rate that would happen over three years (10% per year the first two years and 1.75% the third year).

But, in real life the increases were

2018 Promised was 10% Actual was 13%

2019 Promised was 10% Actual was 24.9%

2020 Promised was 1.75 Actual was 1.75

Then in 2021 the increase was 26.7% and all this while the benefit increases have increased by about 5% per year.

Gift travel bags
September 20, 2019

The metal pull tag on each travel bag sent as a renewal gift break off too easily, making the compartments unusable! The only bag that didn't have that problem was the duffel bag with side pockets and the main compartment; that bag's zippers work well!

My mother was paying 1200 a year for car insurance via aarp. I got her added to my insurance for 200 a year. AARP/ liberty mutual is sending her account to collections because they feel their coverage is better, even though we cancelled the policy. AARP was useful at one time. Now their just a fraud purveyor.

THE ELDERLY NEEDS TO BECAREFUL WITH AARP. I SIGNED UP BECAUSE THEY WERE OFFERING A TWO FOR ONE SPECIAL. ONCE I SIGNED UP I HAVE BEEN GETTING NONSTOP SPAM CALLS ABOUT END OF LIFE INSURANCE, MEDICARE SUPPLEMENT INSURANCE AND ETC. I AM NOT AT THE AGE TO COLLECT MEDICARE. ONCE I TELL THE SCAMMER THAT THEY MUST OF GOT MY INFO FROM AARP THEY PANIC AND HANG UP. THIS IS SAD HOW AARP IS CONTRIBUTING IN THE SCAM AGAINST SENIOR BY SELLING THE INFO TO SCAMMERS

I bought a long term policy 25 years ago thru AARP (MetLife) and have been trying for 4 months to get paid on the claim. I am now in Assisted Living after having a stroke and I need to call every week only to get excuse after excuse why they are not sending me a check. Save yourself a lot of time and energy and buy through another company.

One service in the AARP lineup that I would completely avoid is the road service provided by Allstate. While it is cheaper than AAA, I would not want to be in need of it late at night or even during daylight hours. This is for the simple reason that the website keeps telling you that your password is invalid when it most certainly is not. This is something that you can overcome, albeit inconveniently, at home, but who wants to have to rectify this when you already have a situation that requires access to the service you paid for. In addition, when I brought this problem to their attention, they were far less than helpful or understanding. I have since had to pay for AAA anyway, so I would never waste time and money on the Allstate service again.

https://learn.aarp.org/smart-drivertek/ is a free on line class to learn about all the new car safety features. The problem is when you log in to register you get a #400 error. I was on the phone for 2 hours with AARP and transferred to six different departments with no help. Some did not know anything about the class. Their so called computer program expert told me that it must be a Google problem and because he does not work for Google he could not help. Finally I talked to a supervisor that tried to also register and got the same #400 error and did not know why. So much for a free on line class that does not work.

Amazing service
October 28, 2020

Spoke with a David Brooks, a specialist at AARP upon signing up for benefits. This was the best customer service I've had in a long time. Speaking with David was a very enjoyable experience and he definitely knew his job. He was very knowledgeable in his field and was able to answer all my questions. I look forward to dealing with him and the company in the future.

Still sitting here
April 12, 2021

We hit a huge hole on the turnpike just South of Atlantic Ave. Blew out 2 tires. Called AARP immediately after completing the police report at 11:20am. The told us they would come within 120 min. Then called and confirmed with all the wrong information- so frustrated. It's now 4:00pm. Ridiculous! And they are still not here. Totally unacceptable! We will be finding another service for sure. I do not recommend them AT ALL!

Half or more of the sh*t AARP presents does not even work. I have grown more grey hair trying to figure out how to make use of AARP than I have from natural stressors and acute depression. I am a young member having succumbed to the organization's predatory practices. I signed up for 5 years and fully regret that I even signed up for one. I think most scammers are actually kinder to users who are tech-unsure or unsavvy. WORST decision I made in my life other than an ABUSIVE relationship. Very little value, lots of spam, and lots of unwarranted time.

I made a huge mistake giving these people money. Now that I've cancelled they hound me horribly with tons of junk mail. It's a disgusting waste of resources mostly. Now they have started sending me AARP Foundation mailings wanting donations for poor seniors. I'm one of them and didn't realize AARP was geared towards well-off/comfortable middle class seniors and why I cancelled before my membership even expired. I laughed so hard because they now want me to not only send them money in their newest mailing of the AARP Foundation to "help seniors in need", but they expect me to pay for the stamp to mail it to them. On their website they suggest you PAY some other greedy capitalist to get rid of these junk mailings... that either don't work or work for 3 years and you have to pay again. I even get the AARP junk mail for the DECEASED woman who used to live in my apartment. These people have no shame! Like most who collect charitable donations, the CEO gets 6 figures from it then all those under get big cuts of it then there's the overhead to run the scam... so what do they have left to help poor seniors? A whole lot of NOTHING! I see no big dent in the amount of struggling seniors as I have seen no dent in Cancer with the scam run by The American Cancer Society. AARP is only ONE in a sea of scammers AND they sold my data too, Criminals!

They are geared for older population obviously but their customer service is HORRIBLE. The process is circuitous to say the least. They are inefficient and slow. Completely maddening. You have to go through 8 prompts BEFORE you can make an online payment. Then, you are transferred to a representative who does everything R-E-A-L-L-Y S-L-O-W-L-Y. They go over everything, 3 times or more. They ask you how you are. They ask how the weather is where you are. They repeat everything you say to them. Twice. I get it that they are working with older people some of whom are lonely and paying their AARP bill is the highlight of their day. However, it is infuriating to deal with if you don't want to spend your entire day on the phone.

Insurance
July 18, 2020

I sent all information in to get insurance on my car and when ever thing was approved I sent payment. After that they canceled my insurance and left me hanging with 7 days left to get coverage. My advice for it is worth is not to have ant dealings with AARP. I should have looked at there ratings before doing any with them. There ratings are very bad.

As far as I knew I signed up for one year in 2017 and I have been paying for almost 5 years when I never even used it. I never saw they were automatically going to renew every year. Just trying to help someone.

Funeral Costs
June 20, 2022

Around 1982 this group lobbied congress to monitor and change pricing in the funeral industry. Since that time funeral costs in America have steadily risen. What they hoped would lower the cost of funerals and cremation caused increases in such cost. I have just come of age and joined AMAC.

After speaking to a representative named Ethan I feel compelled to let you know that you have a very well spoken patient thorough and all-around a pleasure to speak to representative.
Ethan embodies the definition of great customer service.
AARP is fortunate to have this caliber of representation.
As I am well-versed in customer service I feel the need to express the importance of his performance, which was absolutely flawless. It should not go unnoticed by the company. I hope that do you agree and are in the practice of giving praise and acknowledging a great performance on the part of one representing your brand.
Thank you so much
