Tired of this
February 26, 2025

I already filed a complaint yesterday but the issue is happening again. I am fraudulently being assessed overdraft fees and it happening everyday it feels like. Once again before 11:59 I cleared my account because advance was paid back early yesterday and I don't get paid until today. I re took out the advance to bring my balance to $-2.93 which is under 5 dollars. There was no other transactions on my ledger. Also I turned off the overdraft coverage online. Even went online and saw the balance as $-2.93 and nothing in the pending section and was still assessed $35. I was told previously I was not eligible for anymore overdraft fees to be waived to I am having my money taken from me unauthorized and unethically. If I can not see any payments pending and I am reducing my negative amount to below $-5 how can I still be assessed overdraft fees then making up some far fetched rule that only so many can be waived. If I can't see any pending transactions online and I am not aware of being in the negative before 11:59 like they are saying how can I wake up at be charged 37 dollars. I am not even getting time to clear an overdraft that I am not privy too. The app that showing the deduction for the payment that came out this morning was due today. I didn't screen shot the balance showing the $-2.93 because I couldn't possibly think this would happen again. I just woke up and once again it did. But I only have proof the payment was due today so other payment should of been made yesterday for me to overdraft. This is illegal worker they are doing.

I am sharing this review, ironically, during the celebration of National Consumer Protection Week. My business has been a customer of the downtown Fifth Third Bank branch for approximately 20 years. Fifth Third failed to protect our funds from an account takeover via a "check-washing" theft (involving the changing of payor's name, and obvious forgery of signatures). Unfortunately, despite immediately reporting the theft, it happened more than once (June, 2023, and December 2023). Fifth third failed in its most basic duty --- keep the funds safe and secure. To add insult to injury, Fifth Third then denied our requests for reimbursement. The runaround and bureaucracy at Fifth Third is atrocious. Fifth Third failed in its legal duty to secure and protect the consumer, and failed to reimburse. Upon further research, it appears that this is a pattern and practice by big banks across the country. See recent lawsuit by NY AG against Citibank. See Senator Sherrod Brown's Senate Committee on Banking. We have asked for copies of all documents supporting their denial of our request for reimbursement. Fifth Third so far is silent. We have filed complaints with the regulatory agencies, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and the Office of Comptroller of Currency. We have also filed with the BBB. I encourage similarly situated consumers at Fifth Third to do the same. #53Better. Here is our story. https://tinyurl.com/2p87exdy

I have an auto loan with Fifth Third Bank that I secured 2 years ago. I have never interacted with them previously. I actually just set them up on auto pay and forgot about it. Due to some issues with my vehicle and a potential for a buyback by the manufacturer, I had to request a letter showing payments and interest to date. The letter had to be on company letterhead. I looked on the online portal, but it only goes back 3 months. I need 2 years data. So, I called the bank. I was told they can either mail or fax the document. I haven't really thought about faxes in 10 years, but since i want to get things moving i selected that option. The person in customer service told me he just faxed it, while i was on the phone! Amazing I thought, great service. Now where do my company faxes go. I found out they go to my assistant and nothing had come. I called back to the bank and was told that this can only be sent via snail mail. To add insult to injury, it will take 3-5 days to mail the letter which means 7-10 days until I receive it. I asked to speak with a supervisor thinking there has to be a way to expedite things. Nope, there was no flexibility and the buck stopped there.
Bottom line; i wouldn't recommend this bank to anyone. They aren't responsive at all. In fact, I didn't even get any information from them about my loan. I just had to call and figure it out. There was no payment book or even a welcome letter. If you are considering a loan through them, don't do it. You would be better off dealing with a more modern bank.

If I could give them zero stars I would. They have pulled out double mortgage payments two months in a row and it takes 7 business days to reverse it. There is no communication between departments and customer service is terrible. They are quick to pull the money out but can't put it right back in screwing us over and putting our account in the negative. We have 5 kids to take care of and they don't care, even though they are at fault. Do not do business with this bank when it comes to buying a house!

Terrible Company
October 17, 2023

Whatever you do, do not get a car loan with these guys. They have been terrible to work with. They did an "upgrade" that messed up the payment method we have used for the last year to make our payments with. We went in and scheduled our payment like we always do and with no notice - the payment didn't go through. They charged us a late fee and blamed the bank we make our payments with. APATHY does not begin to describe the "Customer Service" agent attitude. We ended up having to make an ACH payment over the phone. Guess what happened the next month? Ditto!

Being cheated on has been a nightmare that I wouldn't wish on anyone. I felt helpless and stupid for falling in love in the first place. However, a friend recommended a financial restructuring service on my headline that was a game changer. From the moment I contacted them they gave me a sense of trust and security that I desperately needed. Their experts handled my case with the utmost professionalism and kept me informed at every stage. Miraculously, they managed to recoup my lost investment and give me a second chance I never thought possible. I would get it. I am eternally grateful.

I've been a 5/3 customer for many, many years. I have 4 accounts with them, 2 checking, one savings and a credit card. I keep a decent amount of coin in 2 of the accounts at all times.
The 1st of my 2 gripes is, I went in to get a cashiers check to pay a contractor and they charged a ridiculous fee for the check. I could understand if I weren't a customer but come on, really? Another bank, where I have the MAJORITY of my savings charges no such fee!
Gripe #2, we just bought a Brand new car. Dealer secured loan through 5/3 bank at 9.55%! My credit score is 830 and on top of that, they (5/3) charged a $195 loan origination fee! WTF! I will pull money out of the other bank and pay this ridiculous loan off once my first payment is due.
As a contractor myself, my old company had 5/3 bank as one of their service accounts, we all called them FEE Third Bank! And it's true!

We have had this bank for years and years and they let scams go through. We are moving all 3 of our business accounts over to Truist. This was the last straw. They sided with a scam website and I had SOOOO much proof and now I am out $124.91. This isn't the first time we didn't get money back on a scam. They let fake checks go through with the incorrect spelling of our company and a signature that wasn't even ours. We didn't get refunded on all of them, but let a legit transaction come in and they block it or question us. If we send an employee to MAKE A DEPOSIT, they deny them. I mean WTH?! We have had another business and our personal account with Truist for 20 years and have NEVER had to deal with the garbage we have had to deal with in 53rd Bank. My husband has finally agreed to pull everything. Beware, you may get the same treatment one day too. I do have a lot of pictures and texts but that has a lot of my information on it. They didn't even have the decency to call me or send me a letter telling me they were giving them the money.
I can tell you this, stay away from this website. https://comfybedsheets.com/ The phone was originally bogus then after I complained and got the bank and such involved it rang I think 6 times and hung up. There is no one at the other end. The email was bogus to as they never answered me when I contacted them. Then I found that the email they used was *******@trendminders.com.

Worse bank ever
September 1, 2023

I received an offer in the mail to open RMM account with 5.3% API and attempted to open account online right away. But Immediately ran into the problems.
1. I only could open account with single owner. To make it joint, I and my spouse will need to go to the branch office.
2. I only could transfer 25K from my other bank. I called customer services and the person assured me that I can deposit as much as I want and it is probably the first transaction that is limited. So I opened account and added my other bank for transaction. Waited 24 hours to get it verified and finally wanted to transfer the money, but limit still was 25K. Apparently this is the monthly limit set as a safety measure. Nobody could answer me what to do to deposit more. The chat person suggested to go to the branch office.
3. I scheduled the phone appointment with the bank online and received confirmation by email that somebody will call me. Nobody did
4. The chat is horrible. I waited 30 min to get agent and got disconnected after they answered one question.
5. Finally I gave up and asked chat person to close this account. And that is the only thing that was done promptly. I decided that the benefits I get with this offer not worth the time I need to spend.

Bad Service
August 12, 2023

I scheduled an appointment by phone for a HELOC on my mortgage Friday at 4pm. Received an email notification confirming the call, however, nobody called. I double checked to see if I left the correct number and everything was correct. So then I scheduled a call for the next day Saturday at 12pm and the same thing happened. Nobody called. Obviously 53.com is a joke and don't care about their clients.

Blocked my card because it was stolen, and they transferred all the subsequent purchases made to my stolen card to a new one. VERY UPSET AND FRUSTRATED WITH THIS BANK! Wasted hours on the phone to get nothing done. They kept transferring me from representative to representative. Going to their branch this week to close my account.

Not sure what has happened with Fifth Third bank but I never had any issues till recently. Actually, they were so great when I refinanced my home a few years ago after going through a nightmare with Quicken Loans. Now, not so much. I've applied for an Equity line and it has just been a mess. I was told initially I just need to bring in three documents and it would take about 2 weeks to complete. They hold my initial mortgage mind you. 2 weeks turned into 4 and 4 weeks turned into 6 and I still do not have my funds. Now the seller of our purchase is threatening to cancel our contract. The representative at the branch has been wonderful, however, the Loan Specialist not so much. When she called me the very first time she just said I'm calling from Fifth third bank is this so and so? When I said yes, she asked me to verify my dob. Um...how do I know you are not a scammer? Very unprofessional. I am in a Condo association and fifth 3rd. Needed documents ordered by a place called "Homewise" and the Lender is supposed to order these forms as this is what this particular nationwide company requires and she refused to order them. I ended up having to order them when this is not an a place that the borrower orders from but I had no other choice. The company had to walk me through this since they HAVE NEVER had a borrower do this in the past. Not to mention that I also had to pay a $148.00 fee out of my pocket to do this. I would also email her things that she requested and never receive an acknowledgement that she received what was needed or a thank you. She also does not return my phone calls. Lastly, fifth third has now pulled many ATM machines from merchants making it even harder to find an ATM without fees. I will say, when I called to complain about all of this, I spoke to "Nick" in the tax exempt department, after being transferred 4 times of course, and he was very knowledgeable and professional with me. Sad to see how Fifth Third has gone down hill but unfortunately it really has.

They are the worst!
June 18, 2023

If I could give a -10 stars, I would this company is the worst company I've ever had to deal with and I wish they would sell my mortgage but instead they keep harassing me and allowing me to make partial payments online and then telling me I'm past due. Forcing me to get flood Insurance when it wasn't required. They are the absolute worst get out while you can't do not deal with them they suck! Fifth third get your stuff together and be better for your customers. I hate you! I will leave this review everywhere I possibly can.

This is the worst bank to deal with, their employees provide you with false information on their days/hours open, what you can accomplish during the phone call, what you are able to do, etc. The online website is a complete and total joke - they make it impossible to sign up, waste hours of your time, charge fees, and are unwilling to help. They are illiterate, unhelpful, and rude.

Online banking is simply impossible. "I am sorry but it's generated by the system. There is nothing we can do about it if the automated systems finds suspicious activities". The most common transactions in the US, consulting your account online from outside of the country or a purchase outside of the country with their International card triggers a block on the account. It's only through a lengthy and painful process that you can get your online rights to be reinstated. I have to go through this sometimes multiple times per week!
I used to rave about Fifth Third until this security madness started in October of 2022.
Could not be more critical of a bank service.

Garbage
April 18, 2023

I've been with them for years but the service lately has been abysmal. First the customer service agent lied about the merchant having to cancel an automatic subscription instead of the bank just stopping paying them at my request. Then I missed a payment and they cut off my credit card without warning even though I was still way under the credit limit. All of this without a warning and while my card status was Active according to the website. The worthless CSA told me I would be able to use it again after making a payment but six hours after paying my bill from my checking account, my card got denied again. Absolutely humiliating and very inconvenient.
