States are increasingly requiring that businesses large and small get worker's compensation insurance. It is never cheap and, for some, very hard to afford. So, you want a company that fairly assesses your business; treats you with fairness and courtesy and doesn't surprise you with excess charges. If that is true, avoid Markel like the Bubonic Plague that it is. It is the single worst insurance carrier I have ever worked with. They make repeated, intrusive and duplicative demands for information. They consume hours of your time with their demands for information and God forbid you are a moment late with it because you then get increasingly hostile and threatening letters. Then, once you provide the information they surprise you with massive surcharges for additional fees that they never disclosed to you when they signed you up. If those are not paid promptly you are again beset with increasingly hostile and threatening demands for information. If you actually want good, fair and reasonable worker's comp coverage, sign up with ADP, which gives you full coverage at a fair price and with no brain damage. There is no worse company in the United States than Markel. Consider yourself warned. Believe me, I have been in business for more than 40 years and have never had an experience as bad as the one I had with Markel. It is COVID-19 of insurance carriers. When you get it, you get sick. VERY VERY SICK.

If you are using Find Law for research, there are much, much better alternatives. If you are using FindLaw for online marketing, you are throwing money away. I signed up for a year to the tune of $18,000 on the representation that they would design a "state of the art" website that would "drive business" to my firm. They designed what looked like a pre-packaged, canned site. Pretty much looked like something that sold cleaning supplies. After a year of "optimization", I got NOT ONE inquiry. Not one. Not one phone call. Not one e-mail. Not one client. Not one.
They knew it, of course, so they "graciously" offered to renew my subscription for less money for the following year. My question is why would I spend a dime, much less an additional $9,000 for web marketing that generated no business.
FindLaw is a complete and total ripoff and waste of money.
My experience is not unique, by the way. The rep boasted about the sites for other local lawyers FindLaw had done. I should have called in advance. After I decided not to renew, I called several of them and they had all had the same experience I had and had moved on. Don't waste your money. It really doesn't get any worse that this.
