Ordered about 15 bags of various imported Italian cookies for our wedding (to supplement local bakery made cookies). However, when we received the box, most if not all of the packages were crushed. This was not due to the shipper (box was not damaged) but from from the bags being jammed in too tight at the bottom of the box. With one thin layer of bubble wrap underneath. Essentially, the bags of cookies were acting as packing material for each other. What could go wrong?
The bags emerged crumpled and one could hear pieces and crumbs rolling around in the bag.
Sent photos and a "What are you going to do" inquiry to Yummy Bizarre. "Jack" replied:
We're really sorry to hear about this. We'll let our team know. Meanwhile, please accept this GC (issued in a separate email). [Sidebar- Said "GC" was for $5 bucks!]
I replied to Jack- "What will make us happy is a replacement, carefully packed, and not cramming the many bags in to one layer on the bottom of the box, un-cushioned anywhere except the very top, so to avoid the bags smashing into each other as the box moves its way through the FedEx shipping chain, grinding the cookies into crumbs and jagged pieces."
And Jack wrote back:
"We're really sorry to hear about this. Could you send the picture of the items showing the damage so we can file a claim and request a replacement?"
More pictures. "File a claim" with whom? The boys in the shipping department? Ok.
So I sent more pictures. Of crumpled bags. Of the emptied the contents on a plate - 45% of each bag pieces and parts. It's like they were thrown into the back seat of a car before being shipped. And I sent even more pictures.
Jack replied:
We do apologize for the inconvenience. I already checked this with our team. Cookies are some of our items that despite how much we protect the products, natural breakage happens, as we state on the website. The design of the packaging and the long travel from Europe to the US make it nearly impossible to avoid natural breakage for this particular product. We hope you'd understand...
We are also unable to issue replacements. You may either return the items to us for a refund or donate to your nearest food bank and we'll issue a credit."
Here's the thing - #1 While these ORIGINALLY came from Italy, it was clear that the damage came from the cramming-into-a-box in New Jersey ("long travel from. "). #2 - We've gotten the same brand and make of cookie from a local Italian specialty store (albeit pricier), and none of them were broken or smashed whatsoever, neither package nor contents thereof. Ever!
What terrible customer service. It was clear that the damage was caused by The Hulk in shipping. What passive aggressive communication. Never again.

So, they had the stuff I needed and I ordered. That would normally be the end of the story. But not with these guys. OMG! Talk about follow-up and customer service. Unbelievable! What a bunch of customer service pros. And when FedEx screwed up they actually cared enough to escalate the matter and find out what was happening. You're in good hands with these guys.
