A well-known, UK-based, writing company recently closed down. After a few months, writers of this old company received an email titled "Good news!", our company has been taken over by another company known as Writerbay and our writers can expressly apply to this new company to become their writers. Writers like myself were excited about this news. Alas, I wish I never switched over because it was more like "bad news". My journey with them has been the worst experience with any writing company since I became a writer 8 years ago. Writerbay UK is a sham, they only assign orders to their special writers! Do not bother applying because you will never get orders, and if you do get orders, you do not get paid! Do you know the company you took over from, do you know how well they treated their writers? Writerbay is not even 10% as good as the previous company. The old company would give orders fairly to everyone, ensure everyone gets some work. It's been 4 months since I moved over to Writerbay and all you do is bid without getting a single job. What a waste of my time. There are more reliable writing sites out there, please try them out like I did. I plan to close my account with this impractical company!
I have been writing for Writerbay since May 2011. At first I thought it was not a legit site but after receiving my first pay, I knew it was not a scam. Since I left my job, Writerbay became my sole source of income. Aside from a good source of livelihood for me, it has also been a learning experience. Since I started writing in Writerbay, I learned a lot about different subject matters, from criminal justice to management to economics. Writing for the company is a good exercise for my mind especially since I do not have a permanent job. Although the rates are lower than other academic writing sites, I still appreciate the time I spend doing researches to complete orders.
I plan to work with Writerbay as long as I am able to think and use the computer. I just wish that the rates for writers who have stayed with the company are higher than those who are just new in the business. Loyalty has a price too.
Thank you Writerbay for everything!

I have been a freelance academic writer for Writer Bay since December 2012, or almost 7 years now. So far, this freelance writing organization has been one of the most reputable and reliable online writing services, so far. Support provides immediate response for inquiries and clarifications, and had been very prompt in resolving issues pertinent to writing. The challenging issues that were encountered included payment issues where my salary has been sent late or problems with payment methods (I changed payment methods thrice already) were not immediately resolved since they could not provide assistance in tracing the status of my payment. In addition, with the recent mandatory audits being conducted, I honestly contest being given a demotion (from PRO status to PRO light) on the basis of non-compliance with the required 100 quality pages per month. I believe a demotion in status is derogatory since the demotion considered the number of pages without taking into account that there are different orders of varying complexity depending on academic levels. There are pages that are easy to write and others are fairly difficult, especially entailing application of theories learned from my graduate degree course. I have been writing consistently for WriterBay for almost 7 years with 1933 approved orders. And then you demote me for writing below the 100 orders per month which is supposedly a requirement to sustain my PRO status. It is my conviction that I earned the PRO status for delivering quality orders consistently through the years. Demoting my status to lower PRO light is actually demotivating and demeaning. It is not an effective manner to say I have to strive harder to reach the same status in the future. I hope you will reconsider this auditing practice and the number of pages written should not solely be a main consideration for adjusting the status up or downwards. Quality should precede quantity. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to write a review. My very best regards to WriterBay.
Dear Vilma, thank you so much for leaving your feedback! First and foremost, on behalf of our company, I would like to express our sincere gratitude for your loyalty, devotion, and hard work! We are really happy to have you in our Team.
Vilma, unfortunately, the number of pages completed per month is one of the requirements of the PRO & PRO Light statuses. Only really proficient and hard-working writers as you are can reach these statuses and we know each of our PRO and PRO Light writers by name. The issue is that we receive a certain amount of orders per month meant for promoted writers and we just need to be sure that the writers who we consider to be our best of the best can handle them. That is why, such a requirement was set. We hope for your understanding on the matter! I wish you good luck with all your future orders!
If you have any issues to discuss, please visit our Help Desk and we will gladly assist you.
I have been with writerbay for 5 years now. Although I have ny own share of lapses, I am believe that I develop more as a technical writer because of my tenure with writerbay. Before I was only doing it as a part time job, but I realized that the site offered me more fulfillment compared to my day job. I am now doing this full time.
I know that I will learn more and I continue to look forward to establish a good working relationship with writerbay
Dear Jeremy, thank you for this review!
We are happy to hear that a freelance opportunity at Writerbay became your full-time job. Indeed, it motivates to constantly develop oneself.
We wish you good luck with your current projects and great experience with us!
This company claims to have a competitive work environment. It's more like aggressive and hostile. It is really difficult to make any money there.
I actually know a lot of writers there, and they all say the same things, so when the writerbay representative answers this to defend the company, just keep in mind that so many of their writers feel this way, they are bleeding money every day instead of remaining profitable... and allowing their writers to remain profitable too. A writerbay rep will most likely respond to this with something like, we have hundreds of orders every day, our top writers make thousands of dollars, blah blah blah. It's all just a bunch of hogwash. That might be the truth for the handful of writers that they favor, but the rest of us have to fight to get orders.
Really, the problem is in the QA dept. who is in charge of assigning orders. They bottleneck all of the orders and then only assign one out of every ten or twenty you apply to. The only explanation I can think of is that they have a lot of fake orders rolling around to make them look really busy. Those orders drop off after sitting in the cue for a little while. I believe that their writer earnings are fake too... no ONE human being can make 5,000 a month unless they write at least 20 pages a day at $20 a page, and believe me, unless they have a special cue for a handful of writers, getting an order for 20$ per page is like seeing a unicorn in a rainbow. Plus, when there are orders for this amount, usually, the task is really impossible unless you have a paper that is prewritten and you can type 120 words a minute. I wish! I have friends who can do it, but when they do, they can't do it grammatically correctly either.
Many of us are leaving. It's too late now. We need to actually work for a company that allows us to make money. Your representative's attempt to CYA is not going to convince the rest of the world that your company does not have a real business that offers writers real money.
Dear Jessica, thank you so much for your feedback! Be sure, such reviews help us to improve our services. Jessica, let us build a constructive dialogue here, be it for the public, or in a private messaging.
‘They all say the same things’ - that is actually about a human psychology. Please check the reviews for any popular company and you will see that the majority of comments are negative ones. Why is is so? Because:
1) the satisfied employees are usually too satisfied to leave any comments;
2) the competitors of the market tend to create their ‘sincere’ reviews.
Why am I so sure? I am constantly checking those people in our system and, of course, face difficulties in seeing their profiles at WriterBay. Please do not take it personally, as I am writing about a popular tendency.
Regarding ‘fake orders’. Yes, we do have orders in our system that at a particular moment of time cannot be given to anyone. Such orders can be put on hold due to the numerous reasons, such as ‘waiting for a book,’ and others. We cannot assign an order if something is not clarified with it.
Jessica, please indicate your profile ID in a private message to me, or in email to support@writerbay.com and let us once again clarify this situation.
There is a pecking order at this company. They have writers who they give all of the highest paying orders to, and everyone else must bite, scratch, and scramble to get decent paying work. I am one of these writers who is not favored within the organization even though I have been working there for fifteen months, and I have my share of highly rated orders that I have completed. Yet, I literally have to apply to twenty orders just to get a handful, and if I'm lucky, they'll throw me a scrap or two of a high-paying order like a dog.
Because of these conditions the company creates, it leads to limited chances to make money every single day your work for the company. It even affects writers when they have a contest. For example, their latest contests call for writers to try and write as many pages as they can within a month or have the highest amount of rush orders. We all know that this contest is fixed, because only their darling butt-kissers get the urgent orders, and the rest of us get some only occasionally. It's not a real contest where everyone has an equal chance to succeed and get a bonus.
If they stopped rigging the entire company so that only a handful of people profit, they might have a really good thing going. I don't know if it's a cultural thing or what, but as polite as the staff communicates, most of the time (you have those who do not and try their best to interfere with all of your orders to make life difficult for you), you won't get a fair shake at this company, no matter how many favors they talk you into doing for you where you will wind up making only a few ducats an hour.
Dear Moxy, thank you for your frank feedback!
Please be informed that at any moment of time, we have a lot of orders distributed among all the active writers. That is not possible to give all the highly-paid orders to a 'handful of people', as in this case, they are supposed to write hundreds of pages every day. Yes, we offer the competition for you to have a chance to be promoted. As a rule, a lot of writers are eagerly engaged in it and for sure, they receive what they strive for.
Moxy, I am sure we can find the most suitable option for both parties. Let us review the orders you have done and make the appropriate measures. Please either indicate your ID or contact us at support@writerbay.com, as I cannot find you in the system by your name.
Have a great time ahead!
I have to agree with what the previous reviewer said about Writerbay. I started working for Writerbay last year, and it has been an extremely disappointing experience. I bid on jobs all day long, and never get assigned a job. It is apparent that the people assigning jobs have their favourite writers. I have gone from writing an average of 20-30 orders for a previous company, to barely completing 2 orders in a whole month for Writerbay. I barely earn anything after joining Writerbay, and I have had to search for other income since joining them. Other similar companies adopt a fairer approach by ensuring everyone gets some work in a month. Writerbay has no fairness in their approach, because I don't see why a writer will bid on 30 jobs in a month and barely get assigned one job. I think the company needs to change how they assign orders, it is unfair to writers who are shut out due to personal grievances or because someone prefers certain writers. And maybe stop employing more writers when you already have your 'special' writers who get to complete all the jobs? Because I don't understand why a writer will go through the entire recruitment process, only to end up getting only one job a month? It's one of the worst approaches to assigning jobs that I have ever seen.
Dear Amanda, thanks for your sincere comment!
Please be informed that we have the Policy regarding assigning orders to the writers. As a rule, we try to give enough work to each and every writer. But from another side, we cannot allow one person to work on too many orders simultaneously. Amanda, we would really love to check your activity on our website and take the appropriate measures in case we notice some instances of unfair treatment. Please provide your ID, as we could not find your profile in our system and make your experience with WriterBay better!
Waiting for your reply! Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to email us at support@writerbay.com
Never expect to make any real money at this company. The problem is that they assign orders, which I suppose is their right, but what this does is turns their company into a very political organization. If you cross hairs with someone there and that person is working on that day, you won't get any work. And forget all of the top paying orders. They'll assign those to people who either put in bids to do it for less money or they have a handful of writers who get all of the top work. I have been working there for years, and I have found it impossible to support myself solely on Writerbay. If you do something for them once in a while, I guess it's okay. The people are polite enough, but you have to watch, because you have some people there who will stress you out for no reason, just because it's fun. It makes it very difficult and stressful to earn any real money with them, so make sure that you do not become dependent on them as your primary source of income. It's much better if you have other income to cover when the staff get into that mood and don't feel like assigning you anything for the day or want to assign you all of the lowest paying contracts for the week.
Dear Courtney,
Thank you for sharing your experience! Let me highlight that each and every writer can apply to any orders he wants to complete. However, our Quality Assurance Team members have their own protocols of assigning the most suitable writer for an order. This procedure is necessary due to the fact that meeting client's expectations is one of our primary targets. Moreover, we cannot allow one writer to work on a lot of orders in a row, especially, when it is clearly seen that one person cannot complete such an amount of work within a particular deadline. Lateness Rate is also one of our main concerns. Anyway, we always try to distribute the workload among all the writers for everyone to have a chance to earn as much as possible.
Courtney, we are sorry that for you it appeared to be a secondary income. But for a very big amount of writers, WriterBay is a primary source of income. I hope everyone should understand that each situation is unique.
Wish you a productive time ahead!

With writerbay, I can do whatever i want in my life. This is my second job, and firstly I took a few orders per month. But then I realized I can do more and earn more! I am traveling a lot, because I can work from any country and I have money to do this. Guys, be realistic, Writerbay gives this opportunity!
Dear Kate,
We are so glad to read this frank review. Thank you for inspiring the readers to work in our friendly team and make their dreams come true!

One of the best writing company, however, many of my writing struggles are a result of either an unresponsive support team or one who insists on their rules, without bothering to check the requirements. Of course, they have to check the submitted papers based on the guidelines, but some members of the support team do not check the paper details. They insist on sending the paper for revision, even when it was properly completed based on the client's requirements. At least give your writers, especially those who are already expert in their field, the freedom to complete the paper without the need to be checked by your support team. This is especially in the case of new members of the support team, as they are the ones who often give unnecessary headaches to writers who know what they are doing. I suggests that you let the writer and the client communicate, rather than letting the support team get in the way.
Dear Ghean,
First and foremost, I want to thank you for your frank feedback! You point of view is absolutely right! This is the task of the responsible person to check whether the papers uploaded follow the clients’ instructions. Evidently, the Support Agents cannot be proficient in all the subjects we have on the website, that is why some misunderstandings might occur from time to time. Please be sure that such comments as yours help us to improve our services and do all our best to meet your expectations. Once again, thanks for this comment!
If you have any questions, please contact us via live chat, email support@writerbay.com or call at +1 (800) 444-57-59. Wish you a great day!
Wow, I would just like to say that customer service is really polite, for the most part, although I don't really trust much of what they say. You have to really watch all of the people in this company, though, because they try to get you when your guard is down. The entire staff goes in and changes things on your order so they can make more money off of you, like lowering your per page rate in the middle of an order. They claim it's a mistake, but when you see the name of someone who you know has it in for you in the company as the person who did it, it makes you doubt their claims. It's not like they go out of their way to check over their adjustments to see if they made a mistake. If you don't catch it, then they keep the money. Not the most horrible I've worked for, but just be careful. They are not the most trustworthy either.
UPDATE! The rep from the company is simply full of crap. This did happen, it does happen, and it will happen. This company is a foreign company, and they have no care for treating their writers well, at all, ever. This is my experience with Writerbay, and if they don't like the fact that I called them out on it, it's really just too bad. They had tried to steal money from me like this on a number of occasions. It was so bad, I had to start taking screenshots of the contracts I took on so that I had proof that someone went in there and changed the pay, and I went to management every single time. You can take your response and stick it you-know-where, because it doesn't help solve anything, it's completely and utterly useless, and it only shows how guilty you really are. Because of your ignorant response, I changed my vote to a one star because your company and everyone in it is utterly useless.
Thanks for sharing your experience, Betty!
Please be informed that we never lower the price of the order after a writer has confirmed it. There is only one situation when it can be done:
For example, the client has initially ordered 6 pages, but then he said that he needs only 3 pages. For sure, the writer’s salary will be decreased, but he will work less as well. What is more, there is one more situation, when the money can be taken off your balance: the client has sent the paper for revision after approval. But after he approves the revised version, you will be fully compensated.
Betty, you are absolutely right regarding the part that our Support Agents not always notice some mistakes with the payments. Let me inform you that some actions can be done in the system without notifying Support. When such situations happen, you are more than welcome to inform us about this and everything will be fixed immediately. You can always set your bid for the work if you see that it is more complex than said in the Paper Details.
Wish you a lovely day! Please contact us via live chat or by email support@writerbay.com and we will gladly help you with all your concerns. We work 24/7.
I just started with this company back in September. It seems like they have a lot of work, but I have never really gotten any high-paying work, even though I was qualified to write the order. If they really wanted to create a good system for writers, they would turn it into a take system, like some other companies I've worked for. Then it's just a matter of who is quickest to grab the contract. Writerbay is different, though. They reserve all of the high-paying assignments as a way to favor only certain writers, and then everyone else gets shut out. You can make some money, but it's not much. You're better off going to companies who offer a higher pay per page in the first place, and finding a company where they allow writers to grab the assignments as they see them. This company uses their high paying ones as a weapon, and it does not allow all writers to earn money with their company fairly. If you're not on that extremely short list of writers who get ALL of the high paying assignments, then guess what? You're not going to get any at all.
Thank you for your frank feedback. The order-distribution process in our company is quite plain and rational. Most of the writers can take orders automatically. This is the “grabbing” you explained above. If the writer specifically does not have this option, he can receive the project on the competitive manner, being assigned by the Quality Assurance Department. The project also can’t be assigned due to the set of reasons such as lack of information provided by the client if the preferred writer is indicated.
The more experience you receive, more projects complete, the more benefits you receive, including auto-take option (“grabbing”), more salary, a higher position that will distinguish you in the system. The growing process is built on the constant gradual principle. Everything depends on your’s desire to meet and overcome challenges, new horizons, thereby you'll receive more opportunities for yourself. The company’s functionality is built on a writer’s own experience and ideas to improve the service.
If you have any offers regarding integration/implementation in a name of mutual development and ubiquitous success, we would be more than glad to review your ideas. Our email is support@writerbay.com, and we work 24/7.
Hi guys! Never thought I'll write this kind of a feedback. I've been looking for some reviews on Writerbay as was thinking whether to apply or not.
Good Lord how lucky I am to communicate with their representatives before I got here. Lauren was actually super nice and helpful. Honestly, I can't even imagine some posts below are real.
I have now passed all the introductory parts and got approved, so now I can tell you my thoughts: they are not perfect for sure BUT their team is amazing. I cannot imagine someone from their representatives acting like Frank said. I wrote him a personal message asking whether it's a true story or it was made up and now waiting if he replies at all. Lol
Sitejabber team, do you actually check whether a person worked with some company? Looks like not.
Thank you for your frank notice and attentiveness.
Jared, we do appreciate your concern about “fake dramas”
Please be informed that all the feedbacks are monitored, proper investigations are handled to resolve whether the case is justified or not. We do all the possible to prevent any negative experience that can occur. Hope your freelancing path started with fabulous results and you will receive a lot for your development.
In case you have any suggestion on how to improve our service and workflow, you are welcome to contact us via email which is support@writerbay.com
I just read Mark B.'s review, and as a family member who has watched the torture they love to inflict on writers, I have to say that his assessment of Writerbay is completely true, 100%.
The management is of high school level. They are extremely vindictive. They do turn away all good writers.
I have watched my poor spouse pour heart and soul completely into this worthless company only to have them play games with wages, just like Mike said, and more.
In addition, when my spouse tried to confront them with the issue, they yelled at my spouse, cursed me out, and then hung up on my spouse three times.
This is the rudest, most unprofessional group of managers I have ever experienced, and they are running that company into the ground.
The curse contained a racial slur, by the way, against Americans. Something about entitlement because my wife doesn't want to work in a paper mill sweat shop.
Their working conditions are absolutely horrible.
They should be brought up on charges for violation to international human rights.
My spouse has since then found another company to work for, and they are a really nice group of people. They treat my spouse well, complimenting on talent and give thanks for working with them.
You would have a better chance of working in a den of tigers than with Writerbay. Your survival rate will be higher.
Thank you for your sincere and frank feedback. We are extremely sorry to find out about your spouse’s negative experience on our website. At the same time, we are surprised to read your story as we’ve never faced similar occasion with our writers. Hope your spouse found a good workplace. We wish her/him flourished years of success and plenty of goals achieved. In case you face any difficulties with the service or have any other ideas to share with, you are more than welcome to send us a corresponding email on support@writerbay.com. Wish you years of prosperity.
After working for around a year with the company, I found that the company respects its writers a lot and gives opportunities. I had to wait too long for the first order but then it was all good. Timely payments and plenty of work. However, since I was a newbie, I made several mistakes and the account was terminated in March.
I have learned from my mistakes and am ready to take the challenges again with a much enhanced capability of handling any order. I requested Writerbay to allow me another chance but they said I can reapply only after a year of termination.
I regret about my mistakes and wish if I could go back in time and not do those mistakes. I badly want to work with the company again. Hence, I would request the company to kindly allow me to work again as soon as possible. I am ready to pass all the tests again with much better results.
Kaushik, thank you for your sincere feedback. Please be informed that task may be reassigned if you do not confirm it. This usually happens with urgent projects where we need writer’s involvement right away. We are sorry about this occasion with the very first task. Still, you have a chance to choose any order of your taste. Your application will be considered in a competitive manner.
WhatsApp is a good service, but the company uses Telegram since it is faster, more convenient and stable software. All the notifications and updates appear on Telegram right away so the writer is always able to check the status/updates on the order. Anyway, your feedback is counted. If you feel that you have any breakthrough ideas or suggestion about the service, you are welcome to contact us via email which is manager@writerbay.com.
My name is Max and I have been working for year. I asked them to delete my account since I had to apply for a new job and move out. That was a half a year before. But I had splendid experience with this company, though was fined several times for lateness :( Actually, it is a good freelancing job that absorbs and implements your attempts to gain new skills and more experience with writing process. Sometimes such skills can be inevitable and vital. I didn't have any negative experience with them. Though I am not a native speaker. My friend is still working for them and receives big projects. I didn't take them, because they looked terrifying lol. Well, it's cool opportunity to earn some good stuff! :)
Thank you for your positive feedback, Max. We appreciate your experience in our company and glad to know that your friend is still working with us. Please be informed that you can come back to us anytime you want. Management will review your performance and will update you. Big orders have their own specific some do not force our writers to take them. If you feel that you have enough skills and abilities to take it, your application will be highly appreciated any time. We still hope to see you in our team soon. If you feel that you have time to devote yourself to the writing process, please contact us via email which is manager@writerbay.com.
Writers bay is one excellent company that attracts top notch writers across the globe. Personally, I write for uvorcorp, but I had a privilege to manage this account for a friend of mine who was sick for quite some time. All the orders that I submitted for that period were approved by the clients and no issues came up. However, when I try to open an account with them, I am not always successful. I tend to imagine that Africans gets it difficult to secure these accounts whenever they attempt to apply. We have the potential my friends. We love you very much. We desire to work with you. We believe that you are a great company. Kindly try to be fair to all people when you are approving accounts. Otherwise, you are exceptional and I can admit that!
Thank you for such a positive feedback, Raph. We highly appreciate your desire to work with us. Please be informed that we do not have any prejudices regarding the nationality of our writers. All of the applicants possess equal conditions and approach. We hire writers on competitive manner. At the same time, if you feel that you have enough experience to work with us, enough desire and willing to handle new interesting projects and face new progressive challenges in your freelancing career, you are always welcome to try yourself with Writerbay. We are always glad to have excellent writers in our company, Raph. I wish you good luck with your application and ubiquitous success. If you have any questions, just contact us via email which is manager@writerbay.com.
I used to write for Writerbay when I was a student since you can take orders with the deadlines that suitable for you, so to combine your studies and some writing. I have not been active for some time as I do have some other stuff to worry about, but I might consider returning back. A friend of mine is still working there as a freelancer (I referred her) and her overall impression is good. Which is nice, is that I actually earn on my friend's orders and have some passive income due to the referral program Writerbay provides.
Thank you for such a positive feedback. The referral program makes the working process and earning easier for our writers. Each and every writer has a chance to save extra money with inviting their friends to the company and making the family bigger. We are glad to see that you experience such a splendid bonus from Writerbay. Still, you have a chance to come back anytime you want. Just send a message to manager@writerbay.com with this particular request. Wish you good luck!
My account as deleted awhile ago for no reason in my opinion, so there's that. The English of the employees is also really bad. It was funny when I was told that the essay I wrote had grammar errors, and then I found out that the person reviewing it really just didn't know English well enough to understand what I wrote. They're based in the Philippines, and Filipino English allows for a lot of what would be considered grammatical errors in American and British English, so that is what this experience is like.
Thank you for sharing your personal experience. We are deeply sorry to know that your application had been denied previously. Writerbay is one of the best Freelance Writing companies. However, it is difficult to get hired. I applied last year but was unsuccessful. I have applied again this year. I hope this year I will be considered because I have improved my skills significantly.

Dear Chris,
Thank you for your review!
To tell you the truth, we are quite surprised to see such a comment as we try to do our best to ensure that all our writers receive enough attention and work with us. We can assure you that we don’t have any personal preferences in the course of distributing the workload among our writers. Furthermore, some of the managers and support agents of your former company moved to WriterBay as well, and they are the ones who actually assign and check the projects.
We do understand your concerns and frustration, Chris. The systems of WriterBay and your former company differ in some aspects (e.g. We provide our writers with the possibility to have their own account, keep track of the orders assigned, select the orders they would like to complete, track the payments for the completed ones etc). Transfer from one type of service to another is not an easy one and we are always ready to support and assist our new writers. Our Management Team is always available via Help Desk - please don't forget about that as we're always trying to be there for you and other writers.
We truly regret to hear that you haven't had any orders with us for a while as we do struggle with finding professionals for specific orders.
Our company is constantly striving to improve and provide our writers with everything they need. We do appreciate timely feedback as only this way we will be able to be the best company for our employees. Please contact us via manager@writerbay.com or Help Desk, so we could provide you with a suitable option.
Will be looking forward to hearing from you, Chris!
