This company puts you through a really stringent process during the hiring phase. You go through a lot of trouble, and they have you do video recordings of yourself. After all that effort, you would expect that the pay would be at least half-way decent. Not so. You get $15 per hour for teaching group sessions on average. Plus, you have to constantly apply to jobs, and the clients set the rate a lot of times, so there is a lot of work on there that is a lot less than that. Seriously, these companies are making a mint, especially for group sessions, and they toss a pittance our way for doing all the work for them. Considering what I went through to get a tutoring account there, it was not worth the effort.

Tip for consumers:
The one positive thing about this company is that the staff is very helpful! This is why I gave them a two star instead of the one star.

The employees of this company should sit for an Amazon.com class on customer service. This is a phone company, and when you call them, on your phone, to ask for help, they put you through the ringer, hang up on you, refuse to allow you speak with a supervisor, and in general, don't really speak to customers in a way that helps them understand their unnecessarily overcomplicated system of hoops they have you jump through just to process a payment to them. They are a huge bureaucratic organization where all the people really don't know their a$$ from their elbow. I just spent two hours on the phone tonight trying to have them process a payment. Two hours. Two whole hours. One payment. I spoke to two people, and they both had a different set of rules for verification, as if they are making it up as they go along just to give you a hard time and to get you to use the app and stop calling and bothering them. If that's what they want, fine! I hope the company fires all of their useless customer service agents, and as soon as a company comes up with a better deal where I can use the phone I have now, I will jump from AT&T faster than a sailor on a sinking ship.

Tip for consumers:
There's a reason why AT&T had a class action lawsuit against them. They are corporate double talkers with unclear terms and procedures. They have been for as long as I can remember, and they most likely always will be until someone comes along, shows them how to do it better, and steals all their customers until they're crying in their soup at the soup kitchen.

I have many credit cards, and some charge a yearly fee. I would much rather pay a yearly fee than put up with this limited company, which makes up for the fee by charging you for late fees you don't deserve.

My family and I ran into problems with this company when we tried to pay right before Christmas. It couldn't be helped. That's when we got paid. The company stopped answering their telephones on the twenty third, so our payment was late.

Since their website was not working either, the following month, we attempted to send out a check to them, only to discover that they had changed their address without telling anyone at all. So, we received the check back in the mail.

When I called to complain and pay the bill this time, I was put on hold for one entire hour. I asked the supervisor there to help me by, oh, taking a bit of responsibility for their company's shortcomings and limited option and at least forgive the late payments. After all, we have a pretty good payment record with them.

I found out that instead of being able to submit two requests, he could only submit one. I also found out that he submitted the reason why the payment was late for Christmas, not answering the phones, for a request for January, they moved and did not tell anyone.

If you are in a coma, according to this company, it is your fault. They will never, ever forgive late fees even when it is their fault.

On top of that, if their website isn't working and they won't answer their phone, you're pretty much screwed, because they will blame that on you too and charge you a fee.

Finally, even though they don't have a yearly fee, I have made up for that in paying them late fees I didn't deserve. They do not have an electronic signature, so my bank cannot send the electronic payments. They do not have an automated phone service where you can make payments 24 hours a day like, oh, normal credit card companies.

This company just sucks. They offer no options to pay. It's like owning credit cards in the stone age. I lost $78 because their business structure is terrible and offer limited options to pay bills. I would rather pay a fee knowing that every time I need to pay a bill, I will be able to pay it without fail instead of being forced to pay late fees that I don't deserve to pay.

When we pay off this card, I am seriously considering dumping them on their a$$.

Tip for consumers:
Avant just sucks. Avoid them at all costs.

Since COVID, the Middlesboro, Kentucky location has been barely stocking the shelves. They cannot use COVID as an excuse because the Jonesville, VA location and other locations around the area do not have this problem. Whenever I go there to stock up on supplies, I cannot because they are always missing on at least two essentials that I have come to rely on.

Also, their food selection has been even poorer than usual, and everything from their meat to their produce has been rotten. I had gotten the very best of what they had to offer on lettuce, and it didn't even last three days until the heads turned rotten. I literally had to throw out bagged, chopped lettuce after a day or two, and their romaine lettuce had rotted through two-thirds of the heads by day two. Not fresh at all! The bagged stuff made my son ill for a night. Nowadays, we go there, and all the fruits and vegetables are really old and rotting, and they expect us to be happy about what they're offering us to buy from them... at full price!

Moreover, we have gotten sick on a lot of the meats. I am on day four of diarrhea from eating their medium-sized shrimp. This is after an incident last year where I bought chicken legs on sale from there, and they were so rotten when we opened up the package that very night, they made us all sick. They refunded that, but with the most recent illness I have had to endure with the shrimp being rotten, the store now has a reputation to us for being a place where they regularly sell rotten meat. Twice and three times indicates a pattern. Anyone who gets rotten food and experiences harm from this store should report them to the health department, like I did.

Avoid this store like COVID. We are going to shop locally from now after on and stop wasting our time and money from going there.

Tip for consumers:
If you live in the KY/TN/VA area, avoid this store and go to others. This store has regularly sold us rotten food. This time, with the rotten shrimp that has sickened me for five days, was the last straw.

This company's work culture is just the poorest that I have ever seen. The managers and editors completely ignore the staff of writers. I don't see how anyone can run a business the way they do. Seriously, do you know what happens when you ignore people? They go away and find work somewhere else.

They pay out one of the lowest rates in the industry. The editors do nothing but cause problems. When you do manage to get one to reply to you, they are always nothing but nasty, rude, and manipulative.

If you are going to work for this company, start looking for other work the moment they onboard you so you can get the heck out of there. The work environment and culture is like having to swim around in a vat of toxicity.

Those quality control specialists are really unskilled and poorly trained in this company. They are the ones who determine the quality of the tutors' work, which could affect promotions.

My quality specialist made an obvious error on my evaluation, and it's going to be a nightmare to get it removed. The quality specialist railed away about what the QS thought was an issue, but there was no issue. The QS simply failed to double check his/her own work and did not double check the student's document.

Now I have to live with this black mark on my account FOREVER and this accusation of helping the student cheat because the QS MADE A MISTAKE on my report.

There is no excuse for this level of incompetency, and from what I have heard, this happens ALL THE TIME.

This company is a tremendous waste of time. Don't even bother. You can work for other companies where the staff is much better trained than the staff at this one.

  • Abelson Test Prep

I have not used Stevan Abelson's test prep service, but I needed to write this review because I wanted to let the world know how dishonest this individual is.

First of all, it's possible that he is lying about his job experience. I had him as a teacher at the College of Saint Rose, and he taught one of my school psychology classes as an ADJUNCT professor. If he really is an adjunct professor for special education, I have no idea what in the world he was doing teaching in the College of Saint Rose's school psychology program. On that baiss alone, Saint Rose should lose their certification for their scholl psychology program.

In addition, during my class, Stevan Abelson abused this poor guy in class because he was disabled from pain. Abelson encouraged other students to abuse him because he needed a break. It was a long class. He also made him explain why he needed a break and reveal his physical disability to the other students, which is illegal. I'm surprised the College of Saint Rose has anyone going to that school after that.

I witnessed it all, and I felt very bad for the student in class who had to suffer at his hands. Abelson's website is all about serving the needs of disabled students. I would not trust this man to teach anyone anything, especially a special needs student, for which he does not really have the education or training.

If you do have a special needs student, it's better to get someone who has their education in the subject rather than Abelson, who is an administrator and a poor teacher who violates students' rights.

  • Where The Writers Go

3/30/19

Like sitejabber says, it doesn't get any worse than this. Stay away!

They lure you in, promising you will make all this money and you can be promoted, but the reality is that once you earn the money, the bottom pay they offer out of any writing industry whatsoever, they start applying fees to get back as much money from you as they can.

There are some writers who say this company is okay, but they most likely see it as a better alternative to starving and cannot get work elsewhere.

I was with this company for a few months, and they kept at least 30% of my earnings because of fees they claimed had to be applied. They invent negative customer feedback, for example, and then hold your pay for three months or longer after that, hoping you'll be desperate enough to keep working so you do not starve.

If you can manage to get into a better company, which is literally any other company in the entire world, you're better off doing that than working for this group of crooks.

This company claims to have a competitive work environment. It's more like aggressive and hostile. It is really difficult to make any money there.

I actually know a lot of writers there, and they all say the same things, so when the writerbay representative answers this to defend the company, just keep in mind that so many of their writers feel this way, they are bleeding money every day instead of remaining profitable... and allowing their writers to remain profitable too. A writerbay rep will most likely respond to this with something like, we have hundreds of orders every day, our top writers make thousands of dollars, blah blah blah. It's all just a bunch of hogwash. That might be the truth for the handful of writers that they favor, but the rest of us have to fight to get orders.

Really, the problem is in the QA dept. who is in charge of assigning orders. They bottleneck all of the orders and then only assign one out of every ten or twenty you apply to. The only explanation I can think of is that they have a lot of fake orders rolling around to make them look really busy. Those orders drop off after sitting in the cue for a little while. I believe that their writer earnings are fake too... no ONE human being can make 5,000 a month unless they write at least 20 pages a day at $20 a page, and believe me, unless they have a special cue for a handful of writers, getting an order for 20$ per page is like seeing a unicorn in a rainbow. Plus, when there are orders for this amount, usually, the task is really impossible unless you have a paper that is prewritten and you can type 120 words a minute. I wish! I have friends who can do it, but when they do, they can't do it grammatically correctly either.

Many of us are leaving. It's too late now. We need to actually work for a company that allows us to make money. Your representative's attempt to CYA is not going to convince the rest of the world that your company does not have a real business that offers writers real money.

Dear Jessica, thank you so much for your feedback! Be sure, such reviews help us to improve our services. Jessica, let us build a constructive dialogue here, be it for the public, or in a private messaging.
‘They all say the same things’ - that is actually about a human psychology. Please check the reviews for any popular company and you will see that the majority of comments are negative ones. Why is is so? Because:
1) the satisfied employees are usually too satisfied to leave any comments;
2) the competitors of the market tend to create their ‘sincere’ reviews.
Why am I so sure? I am constantly checking those people in our system and, of course, face difficulties in seeing their profiles at WriterBay. Please do not take it personally, as I am writing about a popular tendency.
Regarding ‘fake orders’. Yes, we do have orders in our system that at a particular moment of time cannot be given to anyone. Such orders can be put on hold due to the numerous reasons, such as ‘waiting for a book,’ and others. We cannot assign an order if something is not clarified with it.
Jessica, please indicate your profile ID in a private message to me, or in email to support@writerbay.com and let us once again clarify this situation.
