Ordered marine-grade electrical wire in bulk lengths, What West Marine delivered was a complete mess.
All wires were loosely coiled and dumped into a cardboard box with zero spools, protective wrapping, or organization—resulting in a massive tangled knot that's impossible to use without kinks or potential damage. Photos attached show the nightmare pile and the overflowing "packaging" box.
Worse, they arbitrarily cut one of my 30ft continuous wires into a 3ft section (shipped first) and a 27ft section (arrived the next day in a separate shipment). No explanation, no heads-up— just random slicing of a product I specifically needed as one unbroken length.
This is not how marine wire should ever be handled or shipped. Proper suppliers package on spools or neat coils to prevent exactly these issues.
I've contacted customer service about the cut wire and they thankfully sent me my money back for that 1 wire. Once I recieved the bulk of the order and found the mess I contacted customer service multiple times via chat, email, and phone about returning/replacing for properly packaged continuous lengths or at least a refund/credit—no response whatsoever. They've gone radio silent.
West Marine's online fulfillment is clearly broken, and their lack of accountability is appalling. Used to trust them for boating supplies, but this has me switching to better alternatives like Defender Marine, Wholesale Marine, or direct from Ancor/Pacer. Save yourself the headache—avoid bulk wire orders here.
After realizing my order was not in stock I tried multiple times to cancel it. After 3 days of talking to customer service to cancel the order while it was still pending, WM changed the status to shipped and charged my card. 5 days later and using the shipping label info they provided, I see that the item has not been picked up. So it has not shipped and could have been cancelled. I suspect it is still not in stock. Customer service today (Mike) left the chat mid conversation. WM are unethical deceptive and exercise misleading statements of fact.
Drove 3 hours to the Worst Marine in Phoenix to pick up a $1600 Isotherm refrigerator only to find it had been smashed and severely damaged during shipping. The box had been opened. No WM staff called to notify me the unit was damaged despite it being at the Phoenix store (right next to the cash registers) for 8 days. Come to find out Isotherm PALLETIZES all fridges for shipment. This one was not palletized or secured in any way. This shipment was made without ANY care whatsoever as to the protection of the fridge... or the customer. Refused delivery of the fridge, got a refund and bought from another supplier with great service and palletized products! BTW, Worst Marine no longer offers customers a way to actually speak with another human being (no phone access). Instead you get to "chat" with someone (?) after waiting for 30 minutes -- and only for a few hours each day -- only to learn they "can't help you". Shame.
I bought Star Link system online from West Marine, just a bit under $500. I "chatted" with a customer service rep before buying the item and asked if the item came with all the parts needed to install.
"Yes, it is complete for installation".
It arrived, and of course the flat panel antenna instructions show that the flat panel is designed to sit on a deck, or the yard, or wherever one won't run over it, or the dogs chew on it or the critters chew and defecate on it.
West Marine does not handle the shipping return. I chatted with their help, which was not help. I called and set on hold until my life needed attention. I called the Anderson SC West marine and set on hold until the machine finally said no one was answering.
Let's summarize that West Marine's lousy customer service and misleading statements will ensure I remember their name and never buy from them again.
I bought a spinning fishing rod combo, which includes a rod and a reel. The package comes as a trash old package, and there is no reel. $#*! it

Our 8 foot dingy purchased from West Marine on sale for $950, has lasted about 6 months before it is unusable. This is over three seasons and they will not honor a reasonable warranty. We put it in during the summer, use it to go back and forth to our boat once or twice a week and leave it tied to our dock. The surface is sticky all over and one's pants stick to it, the wooden floorboards started to deteriorate immediately with the paint peeling and a generally unsatisfactory look to it. We have been offered a 210 dollar credit against another dinghy, but I can assure them that we will not be buying another West Marine thingy, nor do we want to possibly continue to use them further
On June 28th placed an order for 4 inflatable fenders and 4 fender covers. All items were listed as in-stock. Paid extra for 2nd day delivery. I received these items over the course of 3 deliveries. The final item was delivered on 7/6,5 days after placing order.
Contacted customer service on 7/5 to find out the status of the final items and was told they are out for delivery. When I asked about the extra charge for 2nd day delivery the service representative became defensive and challenging. I asked for a refund of the delivery charge.
When asked how/why this happened he stated that the products come from different stores and they can't control delivery times.
From my perspective if they can't control delivery times then they shouldn't advertise and charge extra for expedited delivery.
I've been a West Marine customer for 30 plus years. Have experienced a noticeable decline in customer service and instore inventories.
Next time I will go to Defender Marine, Overton's or Jamestown Distributors for my hardware needs.
I stopped into the crystal river store having lowrance problems,and to fine Joe. Because every place I called for help near my home told me to go see him. I found a guy that went more than the extra mile. Joe and Bryce sent over an hour helping me out. Their service and willingness to help was the best. This store and guys are the real deal. I would recommend to anyone
Bought a cooler that was drop shipped from distributor. All it needed was a label and a pickup. Took them four days to ship. Then I discovered they used the CHEAPEST ground rate they could. My order ran all over the U.S. and was in Florida for four days before it was "out for delivery". Still waiting.
This place is out the roof they charge triple the price idk how they stay in biz! I went across the street to academy sports and got the same brand boat cleaner fot half the price!
Usually 75-200 percent over loxal overpriced mom and pop stores. Considering that they are a major Marie distributor ( Port supply) and supply many mom and pop stores, one would think they could at least match the local rip-off artist, instead, they hum it up your drawers even further!
Disappointing to found out after five days my order was cancelled. Costumer service representative very nice.
I buy a Hypalon dinghy who fall appart in one side after 2 years, the warranty was 7 years. Claim after claim, they don't even reply. It's clerly a manufacture defect. This company have no words. I bring them to small claim court.

West marine almost doubled their -100 water soluble anti freeze to $21.00 in 2022 season from $13.99 last season. They are hammering us way to hard with this increase. I love the store but the prices are rising unusually way to fast.

The worst possible service for the worst possible outcome. Stay away and if the happen to be the only ones selling whatever you need, stop fishing!
Stay away from this company! Have yet to receive my order. No email stating it is out of stock or delayed or etc. Online order tracking is down so I have to call for any info. Every time I've called I get a different bs explanation. Be here tomorrow or Monday or it's in the truck all of which are obviously in true. It has been 3 weeks now and was stated to arrive in 4-7days. I have no idea if or when my package will arrive and the last time I called I asked to just cancel the order and was refused. They won't send my package and they won't refund my money so I can purchase elsewhere. Do yourself a favor and don't do business with these clowns.
Horrible service. They sent me wrong products and after returning it, they didn't refund in-spite of multiple phone calls, it's been two weeks.
In Southwest Florida, I am surrounded by West Marine stores which are all at least twenty miles away. When I get their sale "mini catalogs", they don't actually stock all of the advertised item/s I want, at the price advertised. Many basic staples of the boating world are often not in stock. HQ is distracted (perhaps by Catterton taking them over) but the chain CRIES OUT FOR MANAGEMENT, NOW! Customer service by phone reminds me of trying to call an airline in the 70's. Please, MANAGE this business, before it's gone! The one star rating is gratuitous.
