They have the WORST customer service anywhere.
1) When you call, you have to listen to non-relevant disclaimers for a couple of minutes EVERY time.
2) You authenticate once with a person who does nothing but asks 6 questions just to ROUTE you to other department.
3) Next wait, the second stop asks 6 questions AGAIN to authenticate. If you are lucky, they have the answer. Most of the time, they do not know, AFTER YOU HAVE EXPLAINED YOUR QUESTION/ISSUE TWO TIMES ALREADY! They transfer you.
4) Wait. The third person asks authentication questions AGAIN FOR THE THIRD TIME. If they do not have answer, go to net stop, and next stop...
5) Even if you get an answer, it is general, not relevant and do not address your question/issue.
MOST HORRIBLE AND FRUSTRATING CUSTOMER SERVICE ANYWHERE!
I haven't even been with this company a month and they still can't get my doctor straight. They lied to me 100% at the sales department when they signed me up. Said that all but one of my doctors are in network well they may be in network but I can't see them. Customer service is non existent with this company there are many 800 numbers to speak to customer service each one has a 40 minute wait time minimum to speak to someone. In my attempt to resolve the problem with my doctors it took 30 phone calls with a 40 minute wait time each to try to resolve this and it never got resolved I was told to go to my appointment everything was OK when I got to my doctor they refused to see me because the insurance wasn't right and then they lied about even getting a telephone call from the insurance company and began to blame it on billing they must have spoke to someone in billing. That didn't happen because whomever they spoke to in that office gave them my appointment day and time to tell me that's front office people. Billing would have no idea of when I'm coming and when I'm going unless they got paper from the front office.
It's open enrollment time if you know what's good for you Stay away from the United healthcare AARP Secure horizons focus plan. Get it this year and you will be absolutely sorry for 365 more days until you can get rid of them. I got lucky I've only got 2 weeks before I flush the United healthcare toilet.
UHC in 2022 was great. In 2023 they have been awful. First, both my dentist and my eye doctor quit doing business with them as they paid so poorly. I was forced to find new providers.
Second, they say they pay chiropractors. My chiropractor got pre-authorization for my treatment yet they refuse to pay for any treatments. For 7 months I have been told by UHC reps that it is my chiropractor's fault the claims are not paid. Yet I have been standing next to the claims processor and watched her do everything they said needed to be done so the claim would be paid, and nothing was paid. My chiropractor's office reports every other insurance company, BC/BS, Humana, Cigna has paid their claims, while UHC pays nothing.
Third, I need pulmonary therapy. The service was preuthorized by the hospital and I paid the co-pay before starting treaty. Three months into the treatment I learn the UHC now expects me to pay 20% of the therapy. Therapy I have been doing 3 times a week for three months! This is very different from what the pre-authorization said I would owe.
I will not be using UHC in 2024. I advise others to steer clear too.
After receiving LTD for about a year, I just received a letter that they wanted almost all of the money they paid me returned. $*******. 00!
When I was injured at work, I received STD for about 6 months and when that ran out and I could no longer work at any light-duty posts at work, I was forced to choose between retiring early or being terminated and losing my health insurance benefits. I chose to retire early. I could still survive but it would be tight. I got a call from UHC Specialty Benefits who handled the STD claim. She was asking me about LTD and I told her that I just put in my retirement papers so, thinking that was going to be the end of our conversation, she went on to tell me that I could still collect my pension and receive LTD up to 100% of my Pre-Disability salary. I said, "Sign me up!".
Big mistake.
After a year I got a letter stating that they had made an error and my pension offset my LTD payments and they overpaid me over $27,000. That was roughly 80% of what they actually paid me. So now that I had already spent the money, I had to borrow from family and they have made my life very difficult. I have no legal recourse since I guess it is in the policy that they can do this.
They are the most dishonest, deceitful, incompetent boobs I have ever dealt with.
Since last one month i contact multiple time to resolved my issue.
The customer service rep. Are not knowledgeable-- the worst customer service i have seen in my life
I am a new employee. I had questions about the plans offered ---basic ppo, high ded, and buy-up ppo. Very GENERAL QUESTIONS. United Healthcare was AWESOME! First they asked me my name, and member ID and group number (which I don't have), then they transferred me about 20 times. I love it. I asked to speak with a supervisor who transferred me as well because she did not handle this information. When I finally found a group number, they asked me to spell the name of my company/employer, when I did they stated that it does not match--that there are too many versions of the same company (there is only one in the entire world). When I called prior to this, with just the name of the company, they stated that they needed the group number. With only the name they could not help me--I needed to be transferred--I just was so happy about this! Poor overseas employees. Their customer service is plain horrible and atrocious. They should just automate this or post everything online and fire everyone. Literally, would be better if live people did not answer calls.
I met my deductible and out of pocket minimum for 2022. I double checked with UHC to make sure my deductible and out of pocket max are from Jan 1 - Dec 31 because I needed to have surgery in December, they confirmed that was correct. Our policy renewed on Dec 1. My deductible went up 250.00 and my out of pocket went up 450.00 for the next year - I knew that and get it - But now they have added that 700.00 increase to the deductible and out of pocket max to my totals that I have already met for this year for December and it won't even apply for the next year because it all resets in Jan. This is theft, stealing, scam, what ever you want to call it. I can't believe a company could be this smarmy, it's sickening. I called customer service three times today, two of the times the person on the other end couldn't understand the problem. I asked for a supervisor and waited on hold for 30 min. When I finally got one she said patronizingly (I'm sorry, that's just how it works). I am so sick of BS like this from UHC.
I had an appointment on today between 8am and 12 noon no one called or came I had to call to see what the you know what was going on when I called back I talk to some piece of a person she kept me on hold hung up called right back put me on hold I called back a third time she was lying and pretending to understand how mad that I am now I asked to speak with a supervisor never got to speak to one this is very unprofessional and disrespectful y'all do not have one good review on here that is horrible and this piece of s**t company should go out of business for good
My husband's union switched our plan from Blue Advantage to United Healthcare as of July 1. While we haven't yet used it for any actual office visits, our first foray into the world of prescription drugs with them has been a total nightmare. We've spent nearly a week trying to straighten out my husband's scripts through their partner Optum Rx. What a joke! United claims the plan will cover a "brand" med, but not its generic -- even though Dr. has requested a formulary exception to do so. (Optum Rx quoted one price online, charged 20x that when they sent the bill!) Also required to have ALL NEW REFERRALS made by my PCP for specialists I have been seeing for 8+ years! I thought we were in the year 2023, not the stone age. And isn't it ironic that if you try Googling United Healthcare, the results only return glowing reviews of how wonderful they are. If you have any say-so about who your insurance carrier is, DO NOT USE UNITED HEALTHCARE.
United healthcare is a very very bad, the worst insurance I waste my money. I do not recommend it, I could not even do my physical exam. I do not recommend at all
Please do not choose this insurance
The customer support staff is absolutely clueless. I will start looking for a different insurance company.
Until a few months ago, my only experience with UHC was when I worked at a skilled nursing facility and had to call to verify coverage. It was always a very lengthy and unpleasant experience. I have a new job and new insurance now (UHC). It cost $100 to establish a new doctor, who suggested a mammogram. I got the mammogram and bill for $300! I have had 7 mammograms before and was always at no cost (preventative) or just the minimum co-pay. Just before my insurance kicked it, I had a horrible tooth infection and had the tooth pulled. Once my UHC dental insurance was active, I went back to the dentist to see about an implant so the remaining surrounding teeth would not collapse. Guess what? Implants are not covered. And I pose the question, why do I have insurance? Seems that UHC provides, on occasion, some sad and pitiful discount. You can usually work out something with your doctor that would offer the same discount. I will be looking into some alternatives to employee provided insurance. I had better insurance when I was 20 years old working minimum wage at a hardware store.
They dropped my wife's birth control. They won't pay for any of an ER visit. UHC used to be the provider to choose. Now I want to switch as soon as I can.
In the past, UHC has been a very good insurance company, however, their partnering with Optum Rx is dragging them down. When there is a complaint, nothing but lip service is replied.
I was stuck with UHC for several years through my employer. It was ok coverage. I have heart/lung/neurological conditions.
February 2021 I was admitted for a bleeding ulcer. They had to take many blood draws to monitor the situation and ended up giving me blood. They refused to pay for the draws claiming the company was not in network. The hospital was but I guess I was supposed to ask every time they drew blood if they were in network - and do what - refuse? I had lost half of the blood and was just trying to stay alive.
A month later I signed up for Medicare and UHC advantage. Biggest mistake ever. Nurse from UHC called the cardiologist thinking I was in heart failure. Why? Because I didn't answer the phone right away when she called. I spent 2 days answering different doctors phone calls to explain it was typical spring allergies and UHC is clueless.
Now it's bad enough the pharmacy harasses me to refill and pick up but UHC sent an email that I have a prescription that needs refilling and don't forget to do that. I unsubscribed to the email so they called me within hours to discuss refilling my meds.
As I am not incompetent I will be changing companies ASAP. UHC crosses way too many privacy lines and still leaves you with high medical bills to pay.
I don't think this poor excuse for a health insurance company deserves even one star. I am currently getting ready to fire this company. They are great from sucking up half my paycheck but that's about it. Here has been my experience with them: 1. For several years I have been using a free style meter to monitor my blood sugar. I called in my prescription (I have had it for years) and they denied it. Apparently, they will not cover that. 2. My wife went into the eye doctor for an exam and purchased some new glasses. UHC covers the basic exam but no percentage on new glasses. 3. While on a road trip, my wife injured her ankle. We were seen at the local emergency room. UHC did not cover any of the cost and we got hit with a $1,400.00 bill. 4. I was in the hospital for three days with COVID. Again, UHC did not cover anything and I am stuck with a bill over $4,000. 00. 5. I started having shoulder problems/pain. I went to the doctor and they x-rayed it. The doc noted an old injury and told me to get a better idea of treatment, I needed an MRI. A week later UHC sent me a letter stating THEY determined the MRI was not required and denied it. UHC to the rescue! I guess me doctor does not know as much as UHC. Currently, I am getting rid of this poor excuse for a company. Run from these guys because your going to go broke covering medical expenses they do not cover.
Criminal: what health care has no one working on Sat, Sun even for emergency. I was suddenly hospitalized. Called uhc which is AARP and asked for the transport number (a 3rd party group) CS refused to give direct number and assured "even if after hours the providers have the number" a lie. Sat. Needed to go home (dog alone on heart medicine could die, 2 days alone) Hospital had no number for transport. Had gone to hospital emerg which transfered me to main hospital. Ambulance would not take me back to the hospital where car was and I would have to walk 8 miles in the dark to get it because I had no way to contact transport, NO ONE THERE, VOICE MAIL FULL. Hospital had no number to get through. UHC does everything to prevent service and gives false info. Called Mon cs gave nothing but excuses and claimed transport available 24-7 but you have no access to them. CS CAN ONLY TRANS. YOU TO THEM. Conceal all numbers from memembers that are needed!
I am having hard time just to register and login to my uhc account, I am really afraid how difficult it would get when I am in a need to file a claim.

UnitedHealthcare Health Insurance review
Attention Women With Breast Cancer... UHC is NOT behind women with Breast Cancer and will fight you every step of the way NOT to pay when you have exhausted every provider they insist you see. I thought our company had excellent coverage and pay a very high price for it for each of us and now to only learn when it comes down to pay for services they will run the other way... Even our insurance broker is at a loss for words as to how I have been treated with my breast cancer... To the point where we have had to file a formal complaint with the Virginia Bureau of Insurance and the Virginia Department of Health! UHC will continue to put you through more hell then just the hell of your cancer and treatments you must go through! I am fighting with every ounce of energy and life I have left in me for my care and it is falling on deaf ears. UHC only cares about their bottom line and not patient care! Additionally, don't even bother with their cancer support program... useless and a total waste of time!
Let me tell u something uhc. Y'all suck. When I got this insurance all y'all did is screw me. Keep telling me I didn't pay for my premium every month. Y'all lie every time I speak to y'all. I should sue y'all for everything. This insurance has caused me stress. Almost lost my baby due to the stress this insurance has put me through. I hate this insurance. I'm not racist but I feel like only Indian people work there and don't know how to do there jobs. I even spoke to the mangers and supervisors and they told me I was good I didn't owe anything but every customer services person say I owe money that's why they keep terminate my insurance. All this insurance did was terminate me after each payment and I had to call and call to get it fixed each time. Now they said they would active my insurance again if I repay the last 3 months plus next month screw that. I'm not paying anymore I'm done with this insurance and if they come back and say I better pay then I'm going to get a lawyer and sue them for everything!
