The Animal Rescue Site Store does not sell products for humans where animals (broadly defined from coral to cows) are killed or injured in the manufacture of the item, or which were tested on animals. This wording is specifically included in all purchase orders. We do sell some organic or natural pet treats and toys which promote the healthy development of cats and dogs as pets; which in the case of cats are exclusively carnivores, and in the case of dogs are direct descendants of wolves which are exclusively carnivores. We are a long-time member of the Wildlife Friendly Enterprises Network (WFEN), and actively sell all WFEN certified products which reduce conflicts between wild animals and humans in order to protect wild animal populations and reduce animal death and suffering caused by ranchers who use poisons or traps to kill predators; such as using guard dogs to protect sheep on rural farms or reimbursing villagers in Mongolia for the not killing snow leopards which occasionally prey on their goats and sheep. We have invested in a large sanctuary in rural Kenya to help preserve wildlife communities and elephant watering spots adjacent to Tsavo National Park and source certified wildlife friendly t-shirts from there to help provide jobs for local communities to reduce human animal conflict and pay to provide ranger patrols to protect elephants and other wild animals from poachers. We do sell some products derived from animals including alpaca, camels, goats, sheep and fresh-water pearls when the animal is not hurt during the process of creating the product; and in the case of domestic animals where they are raised by small farmers and the products are made by small rural fair trade artisan groups who work closely with their animals and shear the excess fibers to provide both income for villagers and to reduce heat exposure for their domestic livestock during the summer. We do not sell products for humans on the Animal Rescue Site made of leather, fur, feathers, down, ivory, shells (unless beach gathered), coral, tortoise shell, elephant hair, mohair, salt-water pearls, mulberry silk, horn or bone; or sheep wool where the sheep were raised in non-humane settings or treated roughly during industrial sheering. We do sell some products made from fossil animals (rocks), humane silk (after the worm has left the cocoon), butterfly wing jewelry (from butterfly wings gathered after the insects have died) and Hindu quality leather made from animals which died of natural causes. We take our mission to promote animal rescue very seriously, and do not want to hurt some animals to help others. We work closely with our suppliers to find great products which have meaning and are one of the largest resellers of certified fairly traded and wildlife-friendly products in the USA.
