Easy to send free Text with TextNow. But not very good to make a call as soon it rang the call dropped dead.

When I couldn't pay my phone bill and I couldn't figure out where to go to make a call.There are no payphones and I have a phone.Just didn't have the money to activate it.Thank god for text now.
Calls constantly drop or don't connect, immense and constant lag during calls, often times one person in the call can't hear or talk to the other person because the call instance is screwed up, the app is so horridly laggy and it's a battery killer (keeps getting worse as the years pass by), pay to have ads removed and the ad slot still remains and advertises TextNow's services, support is incompetent, the website now requires tracker and ad blockers to be turned off in order to login properly, skeevy terms of service and the list can go on and on. There's simply too many issues to list here without typing a text wall.
Seek a different service if you've had TextNow on your radar. It's more trouble than it's worth - especially if you're a free user of the service. If you're a sceptic go ahead and try it, but rest assured the ads alone will have you uninstalling the app in no time.
We have used textbook on a variety of tablets and platforms since its inception. Throughout many iterations it has performed reliably and well. When our landlines stopped working (long story) it became a lifeline.
If I could give it more than 5 stars, then I would.

I use the text now SIM card and it is the best. I use it for my personal phone calls and texts. It great for me because I don't have a job but I still have a phone number.
TextNow is HORRIBLE. When we lost contact with friends during COVID and tried to get back in contact with them to see if they are well, alive, etc - TextNow automatically disabled our account and basically told us to "...GO TO HELL..." and wrote that our account could NOT be re-activated under no circumstances. People - GET YOUR OWN CELL PHONES and drop TextNow. TextNow do not care about their users, their rules are stupid AND too restrictive; and their appeal site DO NOT WORK! TextNow also NEVER keep accounts open long enough for people to explain what happened to have their accounts re-activated. TextNow staff are HEARTLESS and EXTREMELY unprofessional. Get a cell phone, people. It will be much easier and much less of a headache dealing with TextNow who delete accounts at will FOR NO REASON AT ALL! TextNow is FANTASTIC and GREAT at telling their customers/users to "...GO TO HELL...!

Hi there, thanks for your review! At no point are any calls recorded through TextNow. We do require that permission for certain features like voicemail and voice notes!
I tried to connect to my account today using a VPN connection for safety purposes. I found out the hard way that TextNow no longer allows VPN connections as my account was disabled when I tried to connect and I received a message stating that I had violated their terms of service. I filed an appeal and received a message stating: "We are unable to re-enable this account under any circumstances" (see attached copy of message). This comes two weeks after I paid them for locking my number (they assign a phone number to you if you pay them $4.99 per year). They have made no attempt to refund my money, which I thinkt that they should do since they are not providing the service that I paid for.

I bought my Iphone12 Pro from them. Now it cannot be used with any other carrier. Their customer service is terrible. They kept saying that it is unlocked. But it is not. And, the call quality is not that good.

Text now sucks...worst app I've used, calling & ringing issues, poor sound quality, dropped calls, difficult to use, NOT user friendly, Terrible ALL AROUND! TRY "FREETONE" everyone...works well. Happy with it. Best one yet!
