In order to open an account with them, you need to provide a lot of documents. Not just copy of IDs, but invoices you billed your customers, access to your online bank account, and business registration documentation. And if your business is something more sophisticated than just buy/sell you will be rejected after all this headache. Don't waste your time, use MoneyGram
We urge all business to learn from our mistakes. We needed to keep in step with the "times" and offer our customers a method to use their credit/debit cards in a convenient manner. Without researching we decided to use the Square. Long story short, read the reviews. Several of their customers have complained of their money "being held" until additional documentation was submitted. We have been waiting for two months for our money to be released. Even though they offer the ability to talk to a live person what they won't tell you is that each person will tell you the exact same story. Basically there is nothing they can do but will escalate your issue however, they have no way of communicating with the other department. So here we are two months our and still have not received our money. Have talked and called with no result just the same story. Avoid this company at all costs. Run don't walk away RUN! Learn from our mistakes.
Law firms should not use. They will withdraw money from your account without telling you first. A client can lie and say they don't remember hiring attorney after work done and they return money. If yo send itemized bill and court documents they still keep the money.
Do NOT open a Square debit card, fraudulent charges are not resolved, no solutions are found and small businesses are left to suffer the damages of the money taken out of your account. Customer service forces you into a circle that goes nowhere, with no answers or solutions found. The fraudulent charges get denied when you dispute them. Square freezes your funds. DO NOT use Square. This has caused irreversible damage to my business, I deeply regret ever using Square. My funds have been held without any support or explanations. I am horrified by my experience, I do not recommend anyone leaves their money with Square. They have RIDICULOUS fees and percentages taken out of your sales, they make their undeserved money but do not protect yours. You are better off using ANY other company. This is good for the consumer but horrible for the merchant. Avoid at all cost. I'm disgusted by my experience and the money I have lost because of Square's sheer negligence.
Square has held over $3300 of money without transfer. $1950 of it they have held since January (4 months ago). They have not contacted me about why they are holding it. Their customer service is terrible. If you use your phone to call, it just leave a recorded message that the account is under review. The emails have a stock response that it is under review. I am still waiting to get my money released
Every advertisement says no monthly fee so I purchased a card reader. Downloaded an app and entered my information. It asks for additional areas you might be at so I put another address in. It then took all the information and said that I will be charged $60 a month for each address. So I immediately tried to go back and delete all information cause there's no way I'm paying that much. The app wouldn't allow me to go back and delete my information. It took the better part of the entire day before I was finally able to delete everything but now they keep sending me all sorts of junk
I was selling on the app and I refunded my customer due to their app having issues. The customer had a pending refund that then disappeared. I contacted Square customer service 7 different times and was told 7 different things. Disconnected twice and told verbatim in chat "we will no longer be discussing this with you" The customer had a printout from the bank showing that there is nothing pending, only a posted amount. The customer did a three way call with me and there bank where they confirmed that square sent a refund and then withdrew it and no deposits were coming in and that the original deposit had been sent back. When I told square this, they refused to help. So the money has been stolen by Square. I have documentation of everything and screen recorded all conversations. I am hoping to find someone to help me expose this company for the frauds they are. 7 different people and none of them helped.
Really bad experience! They won't even verify my identity because I don't have a credit report! I tried to get verified with my passport as well and apparently I don't exist at all! Really bad customer service as well, they do not care about their customers or people who are interested in their products. Don't waste your time.
What a great concept! I looked into many credit card gateway sites like authorize.net etc. They all charge huge fees if you are a small business. If you have an iphone or android, you can accept credit cards on it. They send you a small reader that plugs into the top of the phone and you slide the card and thats it! You just got paid. 2.75% fee for each transaction, no other hidden fees. Wanna accept credit cards at a garage sale? No problem! Very cool idea and great for anyone with a small business or just a regular guy who needs to collect money from a friend! You can also manually enter a credit card as well! Very cool, and Im very happy with it
With out any notice they will withhold 20% of you money for 90. When you contact their customer service they will send an automated response stating they will review your case in 180 day. They are withholding thousands of dollars of my profits after my expenses that I need to live on.
We have had money trapped in a square account for over a month now and cannot get them to send it to us. They keep telling us it's in review but you cannot talk to anyone in that department (review department). Apparently they do not have telephones or email or anything. I would highly recommend taking your business elsewhere.
I have had square for a long time now. I am a small company and I do not use this that much anymore because I have issues all the time. I have had my deposits frozen multiple times and just tried to deposit a check by mobile deposit. I kept getting an error code, I called and could not be given a reason why no one knew. So it is now in the engineering department and said I will hear back 3-5 business days, so who knows if I will get that money or if I have to go through the whole process again. I have never had so many issues trying to get my money from jobs that I do, being small I depend on my deposits for the jobs that I am on.This will be the last time I use them. I do not recommend Square to any business big or especially small.
Initial testing showed this could be an ok platform. Once they had my website domain and money things change quickly. Simple questions to tech support will yield different answers. Not sure you can call it tech support though. Very few who answer the phone are helpful, the majority fabricate replies. Yes, be prepared to be with tech support for the endless issues. Also know that after stuggling through all the problems, you be more knowledgeable about their service than most of them are. No one in this company has any idea what makes online retail function. Don't be fooled by a small initial test before deciding. This company has no business being in business.
I've used square in the past and they were ok for smaller transaction deals but if its bigger than a thousand it is a nightmare. Every transaction goes under review and you are interrogated like a criminal requiring you so many proof and what kind of business you ran why you get so much money. It's annoying especially if it goes on review every single time and they hold the money until they are satisfied with the answer or ask you for more details. Also they don't have 24/7 support so if you charge in the weekend because you do business in the weekend expect delays. If you're making a sale and needs the funds right away avoid square as they are unreliable that's why they don't have a good review.
Somehow I fell into the same trap as a lot of people on this site. My account was deactivated, with no reason to why, no response, won't answer emails, tickets or phone. Square employees are told to ignore customers. It's the most bizarre thing I have experienced with working with another vendor. PayPal, Stripe, ProPay, WePay, BrainTree, never ever had an issue. Looks like we will take our millions and go to Stripe.
Square must be in trouble to do this to their customers, stay away if you are a developer.
UPDATE:
I got around this situation finally by contacting an old sales person who reached out to us. I got in touch in the right person after that and they verified my account was deactivated by mistake. We are up and running now but won't be taking all our transactions to them.
Ive been with Square for 5 years. Now it appears that it is impossible to get hold of someone actually on the phone. You just have to use a chatbot which is most unsatisfactory when you want to discuss client bank details. I'll be closing my account
After opening an account, answering applicable questions and entering a credit card payment, our account was closed with no explanation as to why. They are holding a $3,000 payment by a client and plan to hold it for several months before transferring to our bank account, if ever. You cannot talk personally with anyone at the company. We have now found that multiple individuals/businesses have experienced the same problem. Filed a BBB complaint to no avail. Never do business with this firm!
Square has been holding a transaction of 90 +. 10= 100$ of mine for almost a week now. It's unbelievable in 2023, if you want to cancel a transaction with this company you can't without unnecessary paper work being uploaded. They're holding my money like it's theirs. I will never deal wit this shiesty company again. Release my funds going on day four now.
Been using it for 2 months and it's constant problems. Constant flags and holds on your money. I had 2 holds the same week for no reason. Also when you call customer service you speak to someone in Malaysia who you can barely understand. I switched to another merchant service. NEVER AGAIN!
I opened a squared up account and processed a payment from a customer. Square deducted a fee for the transaction but when I tried to transfer the balance they suspended my account after I submitted all documentation saying they can't verify my business. My business is registered and on file with DUNS and Bradstreet. They say I have to wait 90 days for them to transfer my funds. Such a rip off. I have filed a complaint with Consumer Protection Agency
