What a joke of a company. They allow you to process thousands in payments, then when you go to transfer to your account, they deactivate it. Scammers.
My review is the same as many others. I started my food business a year ago and needed a way to charge my customer's cards. I thought Squareup would be a great way to many my business funds and support customer's payment options. Was I wrong, after a month of sells. They shut down my account and forced me to refund all the money I have made for that month. I tried calling customer service but, no prevail. In result, I lost a lot of money. Please don't use this company no matter what.
We have using square for 4/5 years.
We decided to do online ordering for our pizzeria and are going to use the square website platform. They recommended a company called Scope to design and build our website. After many months of working with this company and never getting the site up and running correctly... we decided to use a different company. The second company had the website live and functioning with-in one week.
Square & Scope refused to refund any of the money we paid them to build our website.
Highly recommend not using either of these companies.
Square deactivated our account with no reasonable explanation. Recevied an automated "no-reply" email stating funds will be held for 90 days, After 90 days past, received another automated "no-reply" email stating funds will be held an additonal 30 days. After those 30 days passed, same email. No will assist by phone or thrpough their "Support Center" which is an automated Chat-Bot.
Never in 17 years of being in business have we had a card processor clearly act unethically and without regard to the adverse affects these 5-6 months holds in funds can do to a company, any size.
Description of Complaint:
My client purchased services from me October 25th 2022 for $900 payment which was received by me Amex made a mistake and entered a false dispute due to fraud they claim they credited my client the 900. Which was a total Bank era my client straightened it out with American Express and they have since rebilled the client I attached the letter from American Express which I sent to square 50 times with no response and no help they continually attempt to debit my personal checking account for this $900 which was a mistake. That they won't correct. American Express has corrected it and said they sent the money back to square, square does not have it or says they won't do anything they told me to get a lawyer they told me they closed the case after 25 days they're useless they're Liars there agents make up stories they promise to return phone calls they never do and they've been attempting to steal this $900 out of my personal bank account when this sale was legitimate and in the end it was Undisputed and there is no claim according to my client see the letter attached from American Express where is the $900 I'd like to know why no one wants to tell me that. American Express says they sent it back to square where is it where did it go they refuse to open the dispute back up to make corrections to the mistake and continually try to rob me out of $900 out of my personal bank account do not use them their Crooks I don't know what to do to get this resolved so I'm filing a complaint against them Please see the letter enclosed from American Express where they re-debited my client and sent the money back to square which they don't know anything about or want to know anything about it. What kind of business are they running where they can't provide customer service to their client me sprinkler Pros Inc, in business 50 years. I've never seen such poor service in my life I hope that the world sees this for what it is I need this corrected now stop trying to steal my $900 RL

I use Square for my small business. Currently I have money in my Square account but it is not being transferred to my bank account. I have been calling them for months about this. I was told in September that my bank account has been verified; I have an email confirming this and telling me money would be deposited to my account. No such luck. Today when I called, I was told that my bank account is being verified and they will "reach out to me"in 24 hours. I cannot tell you how many times I have been told that but no one reaches out. Further, income from earlier in November has not been added to my Square account balance. I have tried to speak with a supervisor, but only get a general message with no option to leave a voice mail. Be careful using Square!
We have had money trapped in a square account for over a month now and cannot get them to send it to us. They keep telling us it's in review but you cannot talk to anyone in that department (review department). Apparently they do not have telephones or email or anything. I would highly recommend taking your business elsewhere.
I opened an account with them to make life easier. Well epic fail. They took my customers deposit put my account on hold for needing more information. Over 3 days i sent them information they asked for, why did it take 3 days, because they kept coming back with needing more info. I'm on a deadline with this customer and now i will not be able to meet that deadline. You can't get ahold of anyone on the phone you have to chat message with them. Customer service a zero, program a zero, and will be taking my business to swipe simple. Absolutely the worst customer service experience in my life. 3 days later and still no money in the account because it is still on hold. The only reason it is getting 1 start is because i can't put zero. While t he money sits in their account they keep drawing the interest on my customers money. HORRIBLE
Square's customer service is a joke.
The first time I contacted Square was in regards to POS equipment I purchased. My order was cancelled immediately after it was confirmed. I contacted chat support to find out why, and in the middle of trying to resolve my issue, the agent stopped responding.
I contacted them a second time because I wanted to transfer money from my Square account back to its original payment source. The agent kept asking me to verify my Square debit card, which I never received. Additionally, the agent couldn't give me an explanation as to why my original funding source was unlinked from my account. So, I was forced to link it again, and now I'm waiting until Nov. 3 for it to be verified. This place is a joke. Seriously, find ANY other business to handle your business account and transactions.
Square Up solidified itself as the worst experience to date I have had with a card processor. Here are some details: Square was quick to sign up, and quick to take my money for a piece of hardware. My company (a general contractor and remodeling service) painted for a client and they were excited at the option to pay with a card. Square processed this payment and it was held from my clients account, but square did not release this payment to my business. It took a full month to get answers but still no funds, and by month 2 they closed my account without warning or cause. Still did not have funds released. Square never gave me a reason despite reaching out for one at least five times. Every one of those things is absolutely true.
From here I will let you know the following are opinions: it is my opinion that square is predatory to small business. It is my opinion that is square held funds like this from a fraction of its overall clientele the overall financial impact this could cause is staggering, imagine running an organization that can take out short-term interest-free loans in predatory fashion whenever it feels like. It is also my opinion that this is dirtbag and criminal like behavior.
I would do anything, literally any thing else in order to avoid this organization. I also didn't think anything would happen, but it did. I personally would steer clear, run, fast and far.
Square has been the biggest disappointment I have ever experienced while being in business in the past ten years. I switched my multi million dollar company over and once I purchased the devises we quickly became a number. Would not recommend to any of my friends and family.
Suspended account in the middle of the night, I'm a contractor and painter. As I'm freaking out wondering how to pay my crew the next day and getting all the legal documentation they asked for. After a 10 hour day of hard work, these guys who had no problem taking my fees, my hard earned money and then withhold my deposits. After I sent in all the requested documentation, 2 minutes later my account is deactivated. My business is crippled and they have absolutely no 24 support, yet they can review all my bank statements, llc info, invoices created and delivered on their platform and I even included my Home Depot spending summary with job invoices that match their records. In 2 minutes they review all that and deactivated my account, forcing me to refund customers and look like an idiot. Yet they still haven't given me my money yet that was in my account. Not 1 return, dispute or negative review and they crippled my and my employees lively hood. If you're a small business please don't make my mistake it can cost you everything you've worked for.
This company is the absolute worst it literally only worked ONCE just once & after that no dice. It took payments from customers but never released the funds to me after a week of a run around & absolutely no customer service AT ALL WHAT SO EVER keep this in mind when using them. You will be prompted to email over & over & literally never get a response. The number they have linked now just hangs up immediately. So now I am without the money & can't deactivate because the customer won't be able to process refund. I have to rely on an honors system at this point aka my customers disputes with bank & then HOPEFULLY pays me in cash or a different payment method. If you are thinking about it as a small business or on a larger scale please try someone else.
The invoices are fantastic and the amount of services they provide for the small fee of merchant processing is outstanding. Square has helped me track my expenses such as new equipment and makes it all very easy to understand. I have become much more organized now that most finances are in one place. The addition of Afterpay allows customers to make payments on the services they want and makes it easy to get paid. Great experience!
After years of being a Square Customer in both our companies, we received notice that our square account had been suspended due "suspicious activity." We suspect it was due to our hosting our HUGE annual fundraising gala the weekend prior (which we host EVERY year) and having processed many additional donations due to the success of our event. Regardless, this shut our business down! Upon calling SQUARE customer service immediately, we were told that our concern would be transferred to another department and someone would be in touch. Until then, we would remain out of business! They said there was NO-ONE they could escalate our call to. That was over two weeks ago and after two more attempts to reach a Square representative, we continued to receive the exact same response and we've still never heard from anyone. They simply left us closed down with customer service telling us there was NOTHING they could do! We have since switched to a POS company that our local bank recommended with a bank representative we can go to with any problems! They actually BEAT Square's percentage. We've since learned of countless companies suffering the same stress and losses due to Square's non-US based and no-existent customer service!
This company likes to hold your funds. It has happened too many times. I do not understand why they keep holding funds for already established customers. It is no reason for this. I am starting not to trust them. I haven't even paid off my square machine that I purchased yet. But they keep holding my funds. I wish I knew this up front.
Never used square but Cash app is the same company. Horrible experience with direct deposit. They lie and say get your direct deposit 2 days early that's a lie. They hold your money until they see fit to give you the money You worked hard for. Go figure. I will never use them again as soon as I get my deposit (hopefully this century) im closing my account and going back to Chime. How dare these scummy companies tell us if and when we get Our hard earned money! I should have read the reviews first 95% are bad. And customer service are rude and read off of scripts you get no real resolution. I feel a class action lawsuit brewing.
The system is absolute garbage. Not at all intuitive and full of things that don't work as they should. Do not purchase this system! There are much better ones available. The support here also sucks badly, and issues highlighted repetitively by customers are never resolved, "we're looking into this because we know it's important" is the same answer to the same problem of 5 years ago. They stole money from me, I paid hundreds of dollars to upgrade to access certain features which any normal person/business would need - it's obvious the people programming the system have never worked in an environment where it would be used - and then they changed that membership so I have to pay again if I want to get the 'bare minimum' which they call premium again. I'm discontinuing at the end of this month. Highly recommend AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
I am a senior citizen and I signed up for Square invoice to receive a credit card honorarium for a performance I did for a senior activity center. I was paid by credit card on July 1st 2022. Today is September 4th and I still have not received my money.
Initial testing showed this could be an ok platform. Once they had my website domain and money things change quickly. Simple questions to tech support will yield different answers. Not sure you can call it tech support though. Very few who answer the phone are helpful, the majority fabricate replies. Yes, be prepared to be with tech support for the endless issues. Also know that after stuggling through all the problems, you be more knowledgeable about their service than most of them are. No one in this company has any idea what makes online retail function. Don't be fooled by a small initial test before deciding. This company has no business being in business.
Answer: Square is a legit company, just a deeply unethical one that will leave you out to dry if they can get away with it. And they can get away with it.
Answer: No, I can't, because they're a garbage company that can't verify my identity, even with my SSN and repeated support requests, and refuses to even look at my ID. I would love to share a success story, too bad they won't let me have one.
