Warning: I haven't bought the premium subscription, so if you are looking for advice/guidance in that respect, check out some of the other reviews here.
The free version is absolutely useless. Don't even bother with it. Oh, and don't even get me started on the ads. It's plagued with them. Sure, Smilebox is alright if you want to have a little laugh, but no way does it promote creativity or productivity as it claims. The slideshows are pretty well pointless, as you do not even have the simple 'luxury' to insert photos. Every. Thing. Is. Premium. And, it seems to be a common criticism that people are getting scammed by Smilebox with their premium subscriptions.
So if you want to joke around a bit, Smilebox is for you. But overall, it's misleading, a waste of time and not worth your cash.
Loyal Smilebox customer for 15 years. Great for digital sends, but that's it. Printing at home function very cumbersome when it does work and seems to not communicate well with my printer as it keeps changing my print parameters. I was a premium member which allows me to print at home. However, the print function is hidden and is not accessed in the way their help section describes. When I finally found the hidden "print button," it was spinning (along with the download button) and continued to spin for hours despite several computer reboots. The program is sluggish and runs very slowly. My computer is 3 months old and is a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 11 and is lightning fast with every other program and application. Contacted customer service via e-mail and phone. Got a text message that they don't offer phone support. Received e-mail that basically sent me back to their help section. I indicated that I found the button, but the print and download functions were not available to me as they kept spinning. Never heard back from them, despite me saying that my project was time-sensitive and I needed a swifty resolution. Cancelled my subscription and used Canva's free trial to do in 12 minutes what Smilebox couldn't do in 30 hours. Canva will have my business from this day forward.
This week I was asked to do two digital invites and a slideshow for a birthday party. SmileBox made it super easy and fun to do. Combining this with the graphic program canva.com helped me add text to photo boxes. This is pretty slick!
I'm not tech savvy but I found this pretty easy to use for flyers. Anything that required people to open on facebook such as collages or slideshows would not open for my friends though. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if it is the app.
I'm a pre-school teacher and needed to make a quick slideshow for my parents for their end of the year performance. SmileBox saved the day! It took me minutes to make and easy to save. Very user friendly for anyone who doesn't have great computer skills. Love it! Worth the monthly fee. Thank You SmileBox!
Just started using SmileBox a few days ago, and it's awesome: so quick and easy to learn (really intuitive), with great designs. I started with the free version - which is awesome - and am on the premium trial version now - also awesome.
I enjoyed putting this together even though I am a novice at technology.
It was easy to follow and enabled me to have a keepsake of an
Amazing event.
I was not able to email or post it though.
I thought the free offer appeared to have a catch since to access it I would have to post my personal info which I do not feel comfortable with.

There are so many occasions that you can use Smilebox. It's an easy, fun and inexpensive way to show someone you care!
There are so many styles of slideshow to choose from and adding videos and music is very easy too.
I'd be lost without Smilebox for weddings and birthdays but Christmas is the most fun because you can send out emails or load to Facebook!
I downloaded the program and created one card. After I made the card I deleted the program. I don't even remember giving the program my paypal information! A week later bam I had a $47.88 PayPal transaction. I have never gotten any emails from smilebox aside from a survey of how the service is. I have emailed them 3 x and now today I filed a paypal dispute! Not a good way to practice business! They won't even answer emails bc I am sure they have so many people wanting a refund!
My granddaughter asked if she could purchase an e-card for her mother for only $3.99. I allowed her to do this. The card was posted and we received an email that confirmed it was posted. I saw the email, but knew it was a confirmation, so did not open right away. About two weeks later my credit card was charged $40 for an annual membership. I watched my granddaughter purchase the card, so knew we did not agree to that. What I did not know, was there was a statement at the bottom of the confirmation email telling me that I now had a trial membership and if I did not respond within two weeks they would charge my card. They absolutely would not cancel my membership until after a year and would not refund the membership. I would never recommend this website.

Smilebox made it easy to create beautiful invitations, send the invitations, and kept up with my responses. It made my event far easier than any I have ever planned. I will use Smilebox for all of my events.
It's kind of clunky to use for large slideshows. Be sure to edit and reorder your photos before dropping them into the layout. Each slide has to be individually dragged to the new spot which takes forever. There should be a multi-select tool or and option to move slide to "x" position.
I agree with Sherri J in that I cannot start a Slideshow on my gf's computer and then not to be able to finish it when or amend it when I get home. Terrible. Also, there used to be a Full Screen icon on the bottom of the page when viewing a creation. This does not appear any more - why not? Now there is Smilebox's HUGE legend at the bottom of the screen which takes up about 1/4 of the screen. Additionally, their legend blocks out the comments which my gf painfully put together under each picture (which we took on recent safaris in Kenya & Tanzania. I have been a member of Smilebox since 2011but am seriously considering finding another provider. Lastly, they need to improve their Customer Service.
I have enjoyed Smilebox for several years. I send lots of cards. Unfortunately I had my computer worked on recently and they lost all of my pics that I had in Smilebox. So will have to download new ones. Smilebox is the greatest.
I used this website alot to make Dvd's. Now they won't download on my computer after you spend a lot of time making the DVD. I emailed the company and they say it is an Apple problem. When asked for a refund they were very sharp at saying did you read the agreement? NO REFUNDS. Not a solution, Just too bad we did not guarantee

I found smilebox on line when doing a search. It's my go to for every collage I've done in my small photo business. It's very easy to use and I always recommend it to my friends. I give it a 5 start rating!
Very nice basic options. I wish there were an option to create one of your own from scratch -if there is already one, I couldn't find it. It also really stinks that they give you a "free" trial to rope you in, but ask for your credit card information right off the bat. It would be nicer if they give you a free trial by getting your basic information (but then not spam you to death), then just restrict your access again at the end of the free trial.
My issue is not with the application. My issue is related to customer service and lack of notification PRIOR to auto renew and charging for a subscription. We all have busy lives and it is unacceptable that a courtesy reminder is not sent for renewal. When contacted within 10 min of email of charge to reverse the charge since notification is not sent prior it takes 3 weeks for response to be told there is nothing they can do. Better customer service is needed with a renewal refund grace period seems in order as this is common practice with most subscription based applications. Will not be going back due to deceptive practice to garner revenue.
I've only just received a presentation and I was convinced to buy. I didn't even need to try the free version. Never even having heard of Smile box I was pleased with the music, presentation, text for the photos and everything.
I tried a test before I committed and it was easy. And the price is great!
Answer: It sounds like the pixels don't support the size you are trying to view it in. Try shrinking the output and see if that helps. If all of your pictures are still blurry, make sure your software is up to date. Hope this helps and congrats on your wedding!
