I can somewhat understand all the negative reviews, but my experience was flawless. I was concerned when I did not receive an immediate booking confirmation from the airline, but I eventually got the ticket numbers a couple of hours after the purchase. I guess this is how SmartFares operates.
I wanted to pay in parts (credit card) and there was no option. I selected also to choose my seat and I couldn not do it.

Smarter Fare charged my credit card in full and said ticket may be issued with 24 hours. After 24 hours lapsed, I did not receive ticket confirmation so i called to enquire. I was told that tickets have increased by over 12% and if I dont pay for the fare difference the ticket will not be available.
The telephone operator keep pushing me to make a decision on the spot and i expressed my disappointment in not receiving any phone call/ notifications within the 24 hours and that i had to call them to enquire.
They refused to issue the ticket and said it was the airline who refused to ticket at the price advertised.
As i couldnt make a decision right away, i advised them i need to call back in 10 mins so i can check other websites.
I called back, telephone operator was super rude, and refuse to issue a refund, and keep saying the ticket was non-refundable.
After 10 mins of explaining what had happened earlier, the telephone reluctantly and rudely transfer me to the initial operator i was speaking to (they refused to transfer numerous times)
Whilst the original operator arranged for the refund in full, the entire experience was terrible.

The next day you will receive an email to call them immediately because they were unable to confirm your flight. When you call them back, they will try to sell you another flight at a much higher price. SCAM SCAM AVOID!
