Shows you a book or sheet music available as a PDF download, then if you actually go and subscribe to the service it can only accessed through Scribd reader. Can't be printed or saved, can't use your own PDF program for making notes or annotations. Useless for sheet music. Did not respond to my complaint.
I signed up for a temporary/trial membership with Scribd, but never used it as it was confusing. The rules for cost of membership, number of books received monthly, etc., was unclear. 15 months later I came across the site to remove it from my list. I still had an account, so decided to close it. Without any notice or emails regarding payment. Etc., Scribd had been charging me a monthly fee of 8.99 since early 2015. I have just sent them an email to close this account as well as give me access to the books I have paid for. I am waiting for their response, but would not recommend them at this time for reasons mentioned above (lack of transparency, rules that are confusing and unclear) as well as their inability to create a trusting relationship between a consumer and their company. I eagerly wait for their response regarding how to repair this.
The practice of displaying a document that they own no copy write or written permission to incite people to give their contact information on the premise that they will be able to download that document for free is certainly unethical and I question if it is even legal. This site promises you a free download of the document you wish to view if you join and give your contact information but once you do that they do not provide the document for free they want to charge you a substantial fee for a document that they have no intellectual property rights to. Sites like this should be banned. It is up to us as individuals to pass on to others how they exploit consumers and vendors alike. Please do not support this type of behavior by visiting their site.
I have been with Scribd for over 3 years now. I have stuck to them through many changes. They advertise unlimited* audio books, that * means it's not unlimited at all. If you listen to "too many" they will throttle you. I have listen to three books before they shortened my selection to a few slightly unpopular books. When I listen to those, they will reduce it even further, until all you have left is the Mueller report. I reached out to them for a solution to this problem, maybe they can offer an actual premium membership that costs a bit more and not throttle members to such extent. Instead of working with me, they cancelled my membership for me! They just shut me out! Terrible!
Hi Veronica, sincere apologies for the troubles, a member of our support team can definitely help you with this! Please email us at help@scribd.com, then update your review with your ticket number and a member of our team will reach out to you shortly. Thanks!
The online company called SCRIBD took my email address, open an account on their website and used my email address to bill PAYPAL for 11.99 that was never authorized. Seriously have some nerve to do something like this. Note the account they opened, my name is missing.
Hello Nel, I am very sorry to hear you received unexpected charges from Scribd! I would like to help explain the charges and make sure you are not charged again. If you have not already submitted a support ticket please submit a ticket through this link and your request will be escalated straight to my inbox: bit.ly/social-support-help
Thanks! -LC
I created an account and started with the free 30 days trial period. After three weeks, I tried to cancel my trial period, but the website does not recognize my email anymore (it says: "No account found with that email or username"). I tried to use "forgot my password" but I don't receive any email either. I also tried to create a new account with the same email, but then it also says that this email has already been used by another account.
To solve the issue, I have submitted three requests in the "Support" section, but till now I have not received any feedback. I'm afraid Scribed uses this bug in its system to charge me after their trial period. Given the reviews above, my concern has even been more reinforced. Is there any suggestion for me here?
Thank you in advance for any advice or suggestions you may have for me.
Hi Peyman, we're so sorry for the trouble here! We've located your recent support ticket, under ticket number #3234668, and have escalated it to our Trust & Safety team for further assistance. You'll receive a response from a specialist by the end of the business day. We look forward to getting this resolved for you right away! Thanks! -VG
I opted for a free Scribd trial on June 19,2021. Scribd charged my card on July 19,2021. I had forgotten my password and Scribd refused to send a password reset link making it impossible to attempt a cancellation as only logged-in users can submit refund/cancellation requests. This is unethical. Scribd should have a simple platform for those not logged in, to request cancellations and refunds. I also observed that Scribd sends only one generic email that does not explicitly inform the consumer that his card will be charged. I finally managed to locate a link in Scribd's introductory email that allowed me to submit a support request. I am surprised that a company of this size is engaging in such shoddy practices. I demand a full refund and the deletion of all my personal and financial information from Scribd's servers.
Hi Tonia,
Thank you for your feedback and I apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced. Please allow me to clarify the terms of our free trial offering. We do not offer a standalone free trial. Instead, new Scribd members receive a free introductory period included as part of their purchase to our monthly subscription, which is why we ask for billing details right away. This way, there's no interruption for folks that want to keep using the service once the free trial expires and the membership can automatically renew at the end of the 30 days.
We offer a step-by-step guide on how to cancel your subscription to Scribd in our support article, "How to cancel your premium membership": https://support.scribd.com/hc/articles/210134046
If you need any further assistance regarding your cancelation, please create a ticket for our support team here: https://scr.bi/assist. Once the ticket is created, a specialist will reach out to you within 24 hours. Please keep any further communication within the email thread to make sure all your concerns are addressed in a timely manner. Thanks - MR
I have been getting charged since 2021! I have tried the customer service email, I only receive automated responses which does not help me. They have charged hundreds of dollars and I have never accessed their service once! I need to cancel this immediately, the email address associated with my account, for some reason is not working, so I cannot login! I need to speak to a customer service rep directly for assistance, and this is impossible with their automated system! Beware, they make it impossible for assistance, and to cancel!
Thanks for informing us! We apologize for any confusion and for any delay from support. Scribd is a digital reading subscription service. Any charges you are seeing would be for our monthly subscription fee. That said, our support team is available to help you via email. Please make sure you're emailing us at support@scribd.com and update this review with your ticket number so we can escalate your case. Thanks! -EC
I never received a refund even after numerous attempts. And I hate they have no customer service. You NEVER get a response or answer, absolute rubbish! I think about if they did this to lots of people(I'm sure they do) they were making a killing. Please protect yourself use another service
Hi Nick, we're so sorry for the frustrating experience! We'd be more than happy to take a second look here and make things right for you. Could you please update your review with your support ticket # so we can escalate this to a specialist right away? Thanks!
You do get the free books as promised, but remember, you need to put in your card number before you can use it first and once they start charging you, they won't let you unsubscribe. All the methods listed online don't exist or don't work.
Hi Gina - we're happy to cancel your subscription for you. Please send us an email to help@scribd.com and we'll resolve this for you right away.
I am an entrepreneur myself and found the hard way about practices of Scribd. I cancelled nearly an year ago but they have a multi step cancellation process where each step looks like the cancellation is complete. I am going to talk to my lawyer to start a class action lawsuit - I have saved some of the screenshots and can hopefully in this process help others that have lost money.
Hi Ram, we'd like to connect you to a support specialist to look into this further. Please email us at help@scribd.com then update this review to include your ticket #. Thanks!
I've been getting fraudulently charged once monthly since October 2016. I've changed my credit card number several times, the charges persist. I have disputed these charges though my bank several times, changed card numbers, and recently emailed scribd support through two emails and their facebook page. No response.
Hi Caitlin! I'm glad we were able to get this resolved for you via your support ticket. Please let us know if you need further assistance. Thanks! - Donni, Scribd Customer Support
I was unaware of my subscription because Paypal doesn't work in my country. I've been charged for 8 months and I didn't know about it. I only got 3 months of the refund back. Other platforms refund their users' money back if they didn't use it. During my subscription period, I didn't even use it once. I'm sure Scribd has a tech team that can identify the user's session account and the browsing history on Scribd. Still waiting for an agent to respond back to my ticket which is #*******.
Users should be able to get a full refund if they didn't read/listen to a book. If a full refund can't be given they should be given a 100% discount code equivalent to their subscription period.
Hi Monique, we're sorry for the frustrating experience. Upon review of your support ticket, it looks like this issue was resolved by the agent you were working with as of April 1st, 2021. Please direct any and all questions or concerns you have to them via email so we may best assist you. Thanks so much for reaching out and have a wonderful day! -VG
The service is a joke. There is apparently no phone number to call to reach a live human being. My cancelled his account in August, 2015. Since then, he has emailed and called multiple times to try to get Scribd to stop billing him. No one has returned a single call or email. He continues to be charged. This is criminal.
Hi Jenny! I'm so glad that our Support Manager was able to resolve this issue for you and your son. Please do let us know if you have any other questions or concerns. Thanks again! -Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
What the hell. I got a free trial and canceled it immediately, literally less than 10 minutes later because they did not allow me access to all the pages. Next thing you know, a month passes and I'm charged. Obviously, there must be some mistake right, so I send them an email and open a support ticket. It's been 2 weeks, still no response, support ticket #*******.
Hi Miss. D. I'm sorry for the delay in response as we've received a higher than normal amount of emails than expected. Thank you for providing your ticket number and I've responded with more information regarding your account and refund. Thank you for your patience. -Donni, Scribd Customer Support
Impossible to reach them - this is just about the only company of its type that has no phone support at all. Everand should rename itself Ever-eady as they just keep charging!
Hi Gordon, we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause as we do not offer phone support at this time. However, we are more than happy to help you via email if you need assistance - just create a support ticket using this link, http://bit.ly/social-support-help, and update your review here with the ticket # that you receive. Once we receive that information, we can have someone get back to you right away. Thanks!
I've been charged repeatedly after canceling my account. They never make is clear that you have to confirm it by email which is misleading. I will tell all m friends to stay away from this service because of the bad content as well if something isn't resolved.
Hi Samantha - We apologize for the confusion here! When you cancel your subscription with us, you will immediately receive a confirmation email of the cancellation to your primary email address on file. If you did not receive this confirmation email from us, then the subscription cancellation was not completed successfully. This is mentioned in our cancellation guide found here: https://support.scribd.com/hc/en-us/articles/210134046-How-to-cancel-your-premium-membership
That being said, we want to confirm that your subscription is canceled and you aren’t billed further. If you could please email our support team at help@scribd.com and update your review with your support ticket #, we can get you connected with someone who can help with this right away. Thanks!
I'm sure I have cancelled the subscription in January, but keep being charged and couldn't enter the account setting page since then (always shows "scribd is down for maintenance, will be back shortly... for a half year!? Really?) Better think twice before giving your card number to this unfaithful website.
Hi Lucy - I'm very sorry to hear about your unexpected charges. Our account page is up and running (and has never been down) so your computer's browser may be cached and, most likely, your subscription was not canceled, which is why you're receiving these charges. Not to worry, please send us an email to help@scribd.com and we can make sure it's canceled and issue a refund. Thank you!
This site offers a lot of books and audiobooks for around $10.00 per month. However, in other categories it is mostly input from fellow users so you'll find several instances of poorly uploaded material. I am mainly giving them 2 stars because of their very poor customer service. After having a subscription for over a year, I went in to renew my credit card information (my card was about to expire) and before I could do so, they had frozen my account. When I inquired about what had happened, I received an email saying I had made a fraudulent claim against them which was totally false. When I addressed this, I received no response. I emailed again and nothing. Finally, after not contacting me following my inquiries, they deleted my account. So, there's some good stuff here but don't expect much from the company itself.
Hi Bailey - This definitely sounds frustrating. We'd like to take a second look at this and escalate your case to see what happened and make things right. Could you update your review with your ticket number? Once this is done, we'll get this sorted out for you. Thanks!
Great example of everything wrong with technology: Cancellation worfklow is carefully designed to make users think they have cancelled, but you still have to scroll way down and find a little confirmation link. Twice.
Hi Jean - I'm sorry to hear about your difficulty with our cancellation process. Please send us an email to help@scribd.com and we'll confirm cancellation and issue any refunds. Thank you!
Answer: Hi Katie. Thanks for reaching out. Our support team can assist you by emailing us at help@scribd.com. If you've emailed us already, send us a message here with your ticket number or the email address you wrote in with. Thanks! - Donni, Scribd Customer Support
