“A mixed bag!”

Lesley A.
4/30/21

I find Scooploop a real mixed bag. Some discussions end in acrimony, often reflecting the very different political views people have. Too many people engage in deliberate wind ups and moderation needs to be quicker and perhaps fairer. But there are some good interest groups - e. G gardening, the quiz group, book group, tech support, save the planet, dogs There's seldom any aggro in these groups and some very interesting stuff posted. I've learned a lot from others.

“Scooploop Closed Loops. Not Closed. Beware”

Sylvia K.
2/16/22

Scooploop, in their description of 'closed loops' they state that non members of said loops will not be able to see or vote on comments. I am the moderator of a 'closed loop' and yet there's a MrsSokPuppet (the name says it all doesn't it)who is not a member of my loop that can obviously see posts in the loop and is even voting on my posts. I've contacted Scooploop support but they aren't taking any notice. So, in a nutshell, if you want to join a 'closed loop' please be aware there are troublemakers who seem to be able to infiltrate them.

Some of the comments here, from over a year ago, are still not fixed. Members plead with management to fix the bickering, name calling, multi identities and hi jacking of threads which happen regularly on the site, but it all falls on deaf ears. Moderation? You're joking, aren't you?
One star rating is generous.
Seems to be about 30 posters keeping the site from terminal decline.
Sad really...

This site could be very good and seems to be run by hip London people but they let vile anti-semitism, misogyny, transphobia, racism and trolls replicating themselves to answer themselve and do pile-ons. There is a particularly toxic antisemetic comment that has not been removed and a vile one about women wearing skimpy clothes should not be offended when the offer is taken up? Needs to improve or will die or be shut down.

People who have come over from kahuti have ruined it with the ability to talk inanely about how many black bags can be put out and one group moderator (Scooploop delegate the moderation of groups to users) allows a prolific user to post trans and homophobic comments, also the trolls have come over with fake profiles, avoid until they sort it in the way Streetlife would have done. Update seems like the douches who ruined it are still going strong, if Alistaire C is calling you out you know you're in trouble

This is one of the very worst social forum I have come across. Some of the mods are not fit for purpose, fighting publicly, attracting much criticism and dislike. They have ruined the site with their inadequate skills. Reading the latest posts, one of the general groups as well as the computer help group have come in for a lot of criticism.
Overall there is very little intelligent content. There are very few members left posting. Nothing fresh, nothing new, nothing to inspire, just boring geriatric ramblings. I would strongly agree that the other negative comments posted earlier on Sitejabber are a true reflection of the current situation.
Go there at your peril. Time the owner put the site to sleep.

Don't care what anyone else says i would be lost without it, especially during this last year it has been keeping me sane and in contact with people.
There are a lot of very friendly and helpful people on there and I am glad to be part of it.
Of course you get some squabbles and wind ups but that is part of every site and you can block them or just ignore them.

The few, subject-specific groups to which I belong are usually very friendly and useful.

There's still no-one else using them from my part of London - unlike StreetLife, which was full of near neighbours - but most of the regular contributors are pleasant and often helpful. Conversations do go off-topic rather easily but that's probably inevitable, particularly while people have been having to socialise so much online lately.

I find the open discussion groups (which seem automatically to appear whenever one logs in) rather chaotic, so usually avoid even looking at those. I've only found it worth joining in there very occasionally, if there's a particular topic under discussion which needs sensible redirection.

Tip for consumers:
It's designed for reviewing sellers, not community forums, so many of these questions are irrelevant.

I have wondered whether the groups on this site are an experiment. A study of human nature at its worst.
Boasting, goading, trolling, bullying, sarcasm and plain nastiness. Men who are in competition with each other and woke Women who attention seek. Politics dragged kicking and screaming at every opportunity into threads that started innocently. Too many groups, many of which have no visible moderator and have not been used for months.
Moderators who elect themselves and are not fit for purpose. Even some that are known for bad behaviour encouraged to run or even take over groups where others have left or been removed. One day maybe it will be revealed as a giant hoax. Like the re-occurring and renaming of the infamous Brian and his friends. Who weaponize and abuse the systems
With thousands of members, most of which gave up and left a long time ago. I can see a maximum of 40 members that still post.
If the staff want it to continue they need to do something drastic.

Tip for consumers:
Avoid the groups, stay on community and read the ads

Products used:
Not at the present time but adverts come up not when using the community part of the site and I am likely to use some of the services in the future, if the site is still viable.

I was only on there for a week. If I posted a happy post about teddy bears Admin were on my back, if I posted something funny that had happened to me Admin were on my back. I NEVER posted hate/anti/nudity/swearing etc etc. just general posts and I never mentioned brand names but Admin were still on my back. I got 3 private messages and a public one from Admin constantly saying my posts were removed and then the public one saying I was suspended for ''inappropriate'' content. I deleted my account and won't be going back.

This site got a lot of recommendations from disgruntled Nextdoor users on here. I cannot complete the registration process because it will not accept a US post code. Apparently it's for UK users only. Fine, but the intro page needs to explain that. Very disappointed.

Hi Michael E,

We can understand your disappointment and thank you for the feedback, we'll certainly take this on board. Maybe in the future we'll hit the US market but at the moment we're fully concentrated on the UK.

Kind regards,

I was very disappointed with the content of the social side of the site and felt perhaps it was or is unnecessary to have groups, perhaps just sticking to Community activity. As others said I do not see the point in discussing bin bags or arguing with people, or listening to rants about the council not mending a fence. I left the site very quickly after receiving threats by private message because I would not divulge where I worked. There seemed to be so much animosity and venom amongst members, who appeared to get into constant wars of words against each other at a drop of a hat. One group seems to have only two subjects, politics and picking holes in other groups or members, name calling and insults. No thanks.

Do watch out for the moderator of the Oasis group. He abused his power as a moderator and started harassing me by Private Message. Chased me round the internet and started a dispute about content on a third party site which is none of his business as a moderator of his little backstreet group. It is just typical of the controlling cocky attitude I described in an earlier review. Duly reported to SL management and he is now blocked and out of my sight. I shan't be missing the twitter links nor the riveting smug tales of domestic bliss.

As a member for some 18 months and not a Londoner, there's a lot of different views on what Scooploop is. Some would have you believe that it is totally unregulated and aliases abound everywhere - that is not true, yes they are about but mainly in the unfortunately open groups that only new members can look at, and this tends to give the wrong impression.
Closed groups do not often take new members for fear of letting in a disruptive person or alias, they tend to look at how they integrate with posts and the replies they give, but it is worthwhile going the distance so you can join them plus there are quiz, cookery, green, animal groups and many more for most interests.
I am a moderator for a small private group, and sometimes a member will complain and I will look and action as I see fit, but I can be overruled by scooploop if I am wrong as happened for the first time recently. Moderators are volunteers that start a group of their own, or are voted in by the members of that group.

To sum up Scooploop is what you make it.

Scooploop. Avoid like the plague, another incompetent bias decision by the SL moderators to allow these comments to stay up on their site and not be removed despite a number of reports from the victim and other members. The examples are from Scooploops own administrated group, the moderator being an SL staff member Daisy, who seems to condone such offensive and targeted attack on members without removing them. When you click on the report button of a comment a dropdown menu asks why and one of the reasons you can choose is "contains offensive language or personal attack". Which is exactly what these comments are but the moderator has refused to remove them and repremand the offender which gives them the encouragement to continue their abuse. There is definitely a biased favoritism going on. It is absolutely shocking how this site is so unprofessionally managed, and does not protect its members.
Examples...

…. And cue the troublemaker who runs a goody goody ‘no trouble' chat group. One of the biggest troublemakers on the site……and good with the lies too….
Surprised you came to the party so late….

This is another unfounded attack and character assassination on another member that was alowed to stay up and not removed immediately and without a reprimand, Even the antagonist realises they have crossed the line. Here is an extract from a very long comment.

*******@Blodwen Woodham (22.3 miles) 2 months ago
This may be a controversial post, and I fully expect it to be deleted. However, hopefully, there will be time for it to be read by a few posters. These are just my own personal views, of course, and I do not expect anyone to support them.

There may be some people who wonder why Harry French is often accused of overt racism. He uses the associated name of Will Gunter. Gunter is, of course, a German name. Now, whilst I lived in Germany for a few years, an EXTREMELY small percentage who are supporters of the new Nazi-style groups, and who enjoy bringing their racist views into other elements of society, worldwide.

The name Gunter = "from the Germanic personal name Gunter (old French Gontier) composed of the elements gund 'battle' + hari, heri 'army"
Which ties in both the names ‘French' and ‘Gunter' in this instance. (Yes, I have been on Google - surprising what you can find)!

Furthermore, Bermondsey (Mr French/Gunter's location) appears to have quite a history of ‘white supremacy' and racism. Millwall FC originated from there, just as an example.

I wonder if Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon (Tommy Robinson) or any of his friends are members of SL? Just musing! 4 2 1 reactions

Absolutely deplorables that a member can call another member a racist German Nazi, be offensive to Bermondsey, Millwall football team, and associate the member with Tommy Robinson without truth.
This horendus member is still active on Scooploop while the administration looks the other way.

Grave error!
I have been accused by scooploop community support that I have multiple aliases, and that one of them is a member called H*** F***. There is no foundation or proof to this at all.
H*** and I became friends on SL as we were both born in Bermondsey. HE HAS NOW BEEN REMOVED. This is totally unacceptable behaviour by a professional administration. I do not know how they came up with such ridiculous unfounded accusations, unless they have been listening to and wrongly acting on malicious gossip and hear say. Please look into this as this is no way to treat your members/customers. It puts off new people joining. I myself am seriously considering leaving.
I have lost a friend. They can not obviously, because it is not true, provide me with any proof of these wild accusations.
Very Very disappointed, annoyed, and upset by how we have been treated by your staff.

Came over from the best site ever called Streetlife. Hoped this would replace it but just awful. My area taken over by a few men that argue everyday. One just puts on the National BBC News and often fake news every morning from mobile screen shots. Nothing local and friendly whatsoever. Shame as most of the local people have left.

I joined Scooploop a couple of weeks ago, and I realize that my area would be sparse.
However browsing the main open groups (All Aboard and Anything) seemed to be overtaken by argumentative nasty comments that went round and round, other posts rarely stayed on subject ambling off in various direction so the subject of the post is lost completely.
I got the impression that quite a few people had many different names/accounts with the aim to disrupt.
It all got a bit much so I have now left the site, lifes too short!
