My mom passed away. After packing up glassware, dishes and ceramics, I scheduled a donation pickup in Buffalo, NY. I live in another state, so I arrived in Buffalo the day before the scheduled pickup. The timeframe for the pickup was between 8am-4pm. At 4:05pm, I called the donation call center to ask why the donations hadn't been picked up. I was told my pickup had been cancelled with no explanation in the notes. Are you kidding me? The Salvation Army is unreliable, untrustworthy and down right rude. Unprofessional. Do not waste your time with this company.

A Heart to Serve
October 15, 2022

The Salvation Army has assisted me with pickup donations since, 2013. Each member, from the phone, to driver and movers are kind, courteous, informative, efficient and helpful. They always do the job quietly, quickly and neatly. They are always on time and meet all commitments. It is evident
That they have a true heart to serve and bless. In-person donations are also very easy and they are welcoming of the donations. I appreciate what they do to help communities across the globe and am grateful that I can help them, to make it happen. Thank you, Salvation Army!

What a bunch of incompetent individuals working at the Salvation Army. The director sense of remorse for the safety of others is disgusting. They expect you to have a spine and take assaults, threats, and endangerment to your own life. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

They tout the logo " Doing the Most Good" but in reality they don't! They say they provide services but but when you ask for those services they make excuses why they can't help. They don't seem to care about community just Their own image portraying they help when they dont. Their staff is also condescending to to community, rude and abusive. Especially the security staff.

I made an appointment with them to pick up my furniture. I have a lot of perfect cherry wood furniture, I have a love seat that is in perfect condition, and I have a recliner in perfect condition. They came out and looked at my chest of drawers which was perfect, they pulled it out from the wall and on the back panel a quarter of an inch that faces the wall they said it looked a little rumpled so they wouldn't take it. I had a 100% cherry wood dining room table and a 100% cherry wood Hutch. Both were as near the Perfection as you could possibly get. And they turned it down.
Personally, I think they don't want to have to do the work taking it out of the house. I think they are lazy, they just want to make money off of people by selling weird clothes. They could have at least made a few hundred dollars on my Hutch $100 off my dining room table, they could have sold the love seat for $200 they could have made some money. Plus we really wanted to get this stuff to people that were in need people who were broken by life who needed a chance to get back on their feet. But instead, they tied us up for 3 weeks and we're on a moving schedule cuz the house is selling, and then they turn down everything we had. I will never ever give them another Cent or another item to help them out. They should have just told me on the phone your items have to be Beyond perfection but even on the back of an item it has to be perfect. This is a sinful. They are the "Salvation Army" they get "used" items. It's more of a mission than it is an organization. But they seem to have forgotten that. I know there are poor people out there that would love to have this furniture and now I have to throw it in the trash. I originally spent almost $2,000 on this Hutch. But it wasn't good enough for the "Salvation Army." I will tell everyone not to bother with them. They are ridiculous.

A supervisor at a Salvation Army Thrift store told a new employee who was in training about a confidential matter involving the former manager of the store who had sex in the store with another employee.
The supervisor went into detail then told new employee not to repeat what she said. THIS coupled with her derogatory remarks against seniors and poor working conditions made the new employee uncomfortable enough to resign from her new position.
The workers are underpaid, over worked and generally not respected. They are not allowed to sit even for a minute while doing the production work in back and even required to stand during meetings with the manager. (while she sits) Also, it's estimated that 95% of workers are women in desperate need of income.
There is one small, poorly ventilated bathroom in back for employees which serves the public, too. It is not cleaned properly, if at all. The supervisor once went in and sprayed perfume to cover the odor.
Gossip is promoted and endorsed by the current manager. At one 30minute 'stand up' meeting, the store manager spent half of that time talking about a former employee's mental health issues.
Salvation Army Thrift Stores need a complete overhaul of rules and regulations, managers, and workplace conditions.
Hopefully, this helps employees and customers understand that the conditions are bad and should not be tolerated. Sadly, it seems a perfect environment for workplace violence to erupt.

Not our problem
June 25, 2022

Then what is your problem? Guarantee it will be if a fight breaks out! I went there yesterday to get food. There is ALWAYS drama at this place. A little 20 year old girl told me to stay away from the door, a staff member assumed I was coming in and I just walked up to ask a question. They treated that girl like their pet and like she could do no wrong. I am almost 50 and guarantee if that little girl isn't staff she won't tell me what to do. Then a woman threatened me and said she had a weapon after I told the 20 year old baby that hasn't lived life yet even to quit telling me what to do. I bring protection too, you have to there and it's getting that way in all the poor folk hangouts in Pocatello. I used to donate and it was fresh healthy food! You are never going to get another donation from me again. After this I will access St Vincent and the foodbank on first because you all don't know how to act!

Pick up
June 2, 2022

I literally had a couch that had no stain or tears. The legs needed to be put on ($10 from Amazon) but the couch it self was in perfect condition. It was part of a set that cost over $7000 brand new and they came to pick it up and wouldn't take it due to the legs. Quit honestly I don't know how or why you'd pass that up. Someone in need definitely would have loved that couch. I don't understand why I would donate to you at all if you would pass up something that was in such good condition. Then they said they just take things to fund missions only- like they are selling to the rich to fund…? No, not really how that works. Anyway I'll be giving to better charities from now on out.

She's white, thin and wears glasses. She yelled at an older woman at the cash register with, "You keep interrupting me and I'm trying to explain..." The older woman was only asking a question about a coupon discount. The employee sounded condescending, a control freak, with no people skills.

Sterling Heights Salvation Army. Wow! I got a shocker this morning when I walked into my local Salvation Army! If the door is open that usually means the business is open correct? OH NO! I started to look around and this women came charging at me and said, "YOU CAN"T BE IN HERE WE ARE CLOSED". I looked at her and said, "The door is open", and she said, "THAT DOOR IS FOR OUR EMPLOYEES", I said, OH!. She was very loud and startled me and the other couple as well. How am I supposed to know that you are closed? She accused me of coming in the back door even though she saw the couple come in the front door after me. VERY SCARY EMPLOYEE! I was just coming in to the Salvation Army to mind my own business and bother no one. Where was this woman's diplomacy? And that is not all... A while back in 2021 I walked in my same Salvation Army and a man working behind the desk had screamed at me! He said, "PUT YOUR MASK ON OR YOU CAN"T BE IN HERE", and YES, that was embarrassing! I walked out startled as well.

Very bad experience
March 2, 2022

I made a schedule to pick up with them today. I cancelled in a last second mistakenly and called them back to fix it. They said okay but they did not do anything about it. They lied yo give me dispatcher number and extension also. I already saw the driver and spoke with them to get the building and he was so rude. I thought they are coming hut they dud not. I made several phone calls and they were now saying we can not take your item because you are rude yo driver which is totally lie. Also they transfer me to someone says we can not reschedule to you and we don't take any hospital items. There was a list on my order shows everything what I have but they changed their mind suddenly. Please don't bother yourself to waste your time and get stressful to deal with them. They don't care anything about what you are going through. They are just useless and very bad. Put your item to the garbage or give away for free to anyone. It is better.
