I bought my wife 6 boxes and despite paying for expedited shipping, 2 took over 20 days to ship. Sakuraco automatically charged me for an additional 6 boxes and refused to give a refund, despite me emailing them in the day of the charge. Sakuraco have shown that they are anti consumer. Buyer beware - take your business elsewhere!
Unlike every single subscription service, Sakuraco does not send renewal emails before charging your payment method. So, if you only wanted to experience the boxes for a year and think, since you only signed up for a year that's all you'll receive, you'd be wrong! And your card will be charged out of the blue and without your permission. Deceptive business practice and overall shady.
They gave me the wrong plate, most of the products were stale
Aside from that they did not cancel my subscription even though i directly sent them a ticket telling them to do so, they said they cancelled it but they charged me again the next month.
They also didn't remove my payment info, this company is a scam.
I ordered the one box "subscription". However they sent me two boxes in the same month and impossible to cancel. So do not use this place if you're attempting to get one box! You will not get a refund on the second box.
Super fast service, very well curated, and packed. The snacks are super tasty and unique. The magazine telling the story about each snack is a nice touch. Overall, a fun thing to look forward to every month.
I very clearly selected to only buy one box. It even showed it on my profile page, yet they still charged me for a second one today. I tried to cancel it but there is no way. Also they do not allow you to remove your credit card details and info from your profile which is very sketchy. Don not buy from and support these SCAMMERS!
While Sakuraco no longer delivers from Tokyo at lightning speed, more like 2 weeks, it is definitely worth the wait. You get approx. 20 savory & sweet snacks and tea + a decorative or homeware item. Also a very detailed booklet with company and product histories and photos. Note due to lost in translation, we are never told that multi-month subscriptions for some reason do not allow you to skip a month. I learned that the hard way. So the small savings comes with a buyer beware.
Just got my first box And I am so excited to try everything! It was gorgeously packaged, the book that comes with it is great, the houseware this month was a cloth to wrap stuff in elegantly, and what I've tried of the snacks are delish! My only issue was that there were two items in the box that I couldn't find in the book and as I have dietary restrictions, I will have to give those to my husband to be my guinea pig. But I am so excited and can't wait to tuck into everything! I tried the lemon jelly. So good. And the mochi. Seriously fun and yummy! It's a food adventure in a box! Thanks Sakuraco
Buyer beware! Decent, if skimpy portions typical to other snack boxes, and mostly delivered intact except for a few items destroyed as part of the packing process, but PAY ATTENTION to your initial purchase date. Write it down, put on your calendar. They can and will auto renew your original with zero warning then spout terms and conditions drivel if you attempt to cancel unsent products for a partial or complete refund. This stand out in contrast to their competitors who are much more customer friendly. Look elsewhere for your tasty snack sampler.
I've been subscribed to Sakura co for a while now and it's great to see the team really taking in customers feedback - their dedication is clearly reflected in the gradual improvements in the boxes each month! Always a beautiful selection of treats (although some might not suit everyone's taste, Japanese sweets can be very sweet).
Great for sharing and learning about Japanese food, people and culture.
I would love to see more benefits for long term subscribers and perhaps another reward system other than the monthly prizes for those who aren't active on social media?
The boxes are fine but the policy is totally predatory. See customer service exchange below:
Me: "I canceled this subscription, why have I been charged and 6 more are shipping! Please cancel, refund and advice asap"
Sakuraco via their presumed parent company Tokyo Treat "We apologize for the inconvenience.
To clarify, Sakuraco is a subscription-based service and has auto-renewal billing. You will be charged automatically if your subscription is still active on the next renewal date stated under your Order Summary upon checkout. You can also check the status of your subscription, including its renewal date, via your Customer Portal (see the attachments).
Unfortunately, we can't refund the payment that has gone through our system and will ship the boxes that you have paid for. We have confirmed that your subscription has been canceled.
Hope this clarifies.
In the meantime, please let us know if you need any further assistance!"
The themes they have each month are very immersive and the variety of items they give that correlate with the theme is fantastic. The treats are amazing, I never thought I would be a "traditional snack lover" but this box completely changed my mind! Not all of them are winners, but it's awesome to try so many different traditional treats! I also love how the booklet they give you has so much information about the treats, the themes, and the area the items are coming from. Overall, I really love these boxes and I have to figure out a way to get more of these traditional sweets!
Every aspect of the wording on the site makes it appear that your plan is not going to renew itself. The site does not send you any warnings that your subscription is about to renew. I just was surprised with a $150+ renewal charge out of nowhere, and the Terms of Service say that no refunds are allowed. On top of the subpar box contents (it's the same jellies, Hostess-like cakes, rice crackers, and salty snacks every month), their deceptive business practices have deterred me from ever buying a TokyoTreat box again.
I'm coming from the Tokyo Treat box, which already featured awesome snacks i enjoyed every month. Since Sakuraco came up i swapped to this box, because I enjoy tea and sweets.
All items i tested until this day were just awesome. The box itself is designed lovely. The booklet includes a lot of interesting information and features some additional articles about japan and it's prefectures.
Go and test the box on your own!
The shipping and the items are amazing! Fast and very authentic. I already made an year subscription.
But sadly a lot of items come broken. Like cookies, waffles etc... Maybe you could make a safer packaging. But for the rest it's truly amazing
I had paid for two subscription boxes from the same company, they are themed treats and drinks mailed from Japan. One subscription was for three months and the other (Sakuraco) for a year. The automatic renewal option was hidden in their web site and only found out when an authorized charge went through my bank for another three month subscription. When I disputed the charge with my bank, the company stopped sending the remaining boxes for second subscription (already paid 12 months). I lost more than $500 dollars in that subscription, I emailed them and send them messages in their social accounts just to be ignored, I filed a claim with my state consumer agency but because they are from Japan they couldn't do anything. Do not give them your business, it is a scam.
I got a singular box to give as gift to a loved one. Just received an invoice for another box, and retroactively found out I did not get a singular box but got a monthly subscription on a monthly basis. I did not receive a heads-up before the month was over whether I actually wanted to stay in the subscription, nor any extra information that might inform me of the SILENT recurring nature of the payment.
The manner in which to cancel the subscription is a UX hell, using any and every trick in the book to either dissuade or even make people think they cancelled the subscription without actually doing so. This is clear anti-customer behaviour, and I strongly advice against buying from Sakuraco and would directly point you towards their competitors.
September was REALLY a nice box. The little plate is lovely and high quality. The snacks were all vegetarian, except for the marshmallow which I think has gelatin in it. The book has a story about the rabbit and the moon, both charming and captivating. Nicely done, Sakuraco!
I already have a subscription to Tokyo Treat (which I absolutely love!) so thought I would sign up to 3 months of Sakuraco to get something a little different and I think it's fantastic. There's such a good variety in each box, and having some of the homeware items each month gives a lot more longevity to what you've received (compared to snacks only, which usually only last a few days in my case!). I would really recommend Sakuraco to anyone interested in Japan :)
Sakuraco did not in any way make clear that when you purchase 3 months they mean 3 months at a time -- there was no notification at all via email or otherwise that they would charge me again, yet they went ahead and billed me for $140+ for an additional 3 months that I did not want. After I immediately reached out to request a cancellation and refund they initially ignored my email. I reached them via their ticket service page and they replied and told me no refunds, and also warned me that if I take it up with my bank they will hold the boxes I already paid for.
Do not buy from them -- this is false advertising and a total scam to me.
Answer: They are a legitimate company, but they do not have a refund policy and do not notify customers of automatic renewals.
Answer: I love the creatively curated themes and items in each box, and every month comes with a pamphlet not just talking about the products, but giving information on their importance to Japanese history and culture.
Answer: I have seen some reviews of bokksu but I haven't tried their box so can't compare.
Sakuraco has a rating of 4.3 stars from 146 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally satisfied with their purchases. Reviewers satisfied with Sakuraco most frequently mention japanese culture, sakuraco box and high quality. Sakuraco ranks 27th among Food & Drink sites.
