Awful service. I will not recommend it to anyone to use. I received a a damaged camera and couldn't exchange it due to the store policy.
Do people still use Radioshack? I have a special place in my heart for it. I used to go with my dad weekly to radioshack. Unfortunately since the 1990s Radio Shack seems to have taken a turn for the worse. Their website is poorly updated, and items that are supposed to be in stock, either there or in the store, are actually not. Their customer service representatives don't seem to know what's going on either.
If you buy the service contract, radio shack is a great way to buy decent headphones. Because if they break in a year you get new ones, so it's a two for one deal.
I purchased a Canon Powershot G12 camera from Radio Shack and I bought their Protection Plan. The camera broke and was unusable as it would show on the screen that it had a lens error and to restart the camera. Every time I'd restart it, it would be the same problem.
So I took advantage of the Protection Plan that I had and I sent it off. The ones doing their Canon repairs is this place:
Cameras And Parts
4067 Hardwick St.
Suite 469
Lakewood, California *******
The repair was done fast and I didn't have to pay anything which was nice. When I looked up who was doing the repair (www.camerasandparts.com) I visited their website. Turns out the amount they charge for the repair is almost the same as what the warranty cost me. In the future, it would be better to skip the protection plan and if it breaks, just pay them to fix it. If it doesn't break, I'd still have my $90.
In this case though, the protection plan did come in handy and the repair was done very well. The came works like new without any problems. Plus I guess the protection plan is nice because if it breaks again during the coverage period, I'd be covered for another repair if needed.
I docked Radio Shack a star though because I see them charging what Cameras And Parts charges for the repair anyway (give or take). If they charge everybody this (most cameras probably never break), Radio Shack is charging too much (in my honest opinion).
Okay, I'm updating my review on 7/2. They finally shipped my radio 2 1/2 weeks late. I don't have it in my hands yet, but at least FedEx shows that they have it in their hands. So I'll take back my complaint that you pay immediately and get nothing. However, they still should not charge your credit card until they actually fill and ship the order. I shop online with all kinds of sellers, and almost none charge your card until they ship. They just pre-authorize the charge at order time, then complete the charge at shipment. But I have upgraded my review from 1 star to 3 stars because they did finally ship today what I paid for 3 full weeks ago. But they should not say something is in stock and give you an expected date to receive it when it is not really in stock and is backordered (3 weeks in this case). Not only that, but they do not provide any order status after acknowledging the order, until they ship. So you don't know it's back ordered or what is going on. And customer service tells you nothing about the actual status. At least I am relieved that I did not have to file a complaint with my credit card company to try to retrieve my money. The following is the original review of 6/28: I ordered an AM-FM-Shortwave radio. The web page said expect delivery in 7 to 8 days and that the item was in stock. Eight days passed and it hadn't even been shipped, let alone delivered. I contacted Customer Service. They "apologized" and "escalated" the order. Now 17 days after ordering, still nothing shipped, yet the last communication with them said I should have it in my hands by now. It was a lie. They acknowledged the order. They charged my credit card on day one and took my money. But still no sign of getting my radio. Many other retailers (honest ones) get authorized but don't actually charge your credit card until the item ships. Or else they ship the item right away or let you know what's going on. Radioshack.com does neither. You get no real delivery information. You just get strung along with lies. I checked their web site again for this radio on this 17th day after ordering. It still says the radio is in stock. It still promises delivery within 7 or 8 days. Obviously, the web site is a scam to take your money and you get nothing but the shaft. Total rip-off. NEVER AGAIN Radio-crap. Fool me once, shame on you! You won't fool me twice. Have fun going Chapter 11 (again) you scumbags!
This company was around for 100 years, however if memory serves it died off not to long ago.
RadioShack has a rating of 2.5 stars from 32 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. RadioShack ranks 105th among Electronics sites.
