Buyer beware! Predatory company with awful customer service. They are unreasonable and unwilling to work with their customers.
I had a gift card so I figured I would only be paying around $25 (out of pocket) for about 6 ready to eat meals for my work lunches. I also figured that I would be able to freeze them. No where on the site does it say you can't freeze the ready made meals, but when they came it says so on the packaging. I put them in the freezer anyways. They were dated to eat 6 days after I received them. Next issue, I put in my order, then 2 days later received an email saying they needed to substitute one of the meals. I was able to go in and change that out for something else, not too big of a deal. But then a few days later, I get an email saying they are cancelling the entire order for some reason and gave me a $13 credit for my trouble. But now it's too late to order for the following week, so I put in an order for the next available week. It goes through. Shipping link in email didn't work. On the Tuesday after Labor Day I remember to go in to account to check shipping info to discover that the package had just been delivered. Come home to find that one of the prepackaged meal trays was cracked and leaked into the inside packaging and onto the other meals. This was clearly from PC's end, not the shippers fault as outside of box was fine. Got a quick response from PC (within a day) apologizing and giving me a $13 credit. I won't use it. It's too expensive. I haven't even tried the meals yet. The fact that you can't leave any feedback on their website is troubling, and the website itself is clunky to use when looking for nutrition info and comparing meals.
My order was cancelled without notification, leaving me in a real bind. When I checked to see what day the order would ship, I found the order had been cancelled. They evidently oversold.
I've tried 3 meal plan services. I'm vegan so really wanted to love Purple Carrot and thought for sure this would be my favorite. Instead, it not only turned out to be my least favorite, but I've also vowed to never do business with them again. The meals are good (Green Chef is better though) but the ingredients are not organic & contain unnecessary preservatives. I have a sensitivity to pesticides so for that reason decided to cancel. I could have made do with the poor preparation instructions. Their FAQ's gave an email address. I emailed the company asking to cancel. A month later I receive an email that a box had just been delivered. I had a million things going on with it being Thanksgiving week and a fridge filled with holiday items. So this box being delivered was a huge inconvenience. I called purple carrot and was told I had a promotional $25 credit that could be applied to this box (Um, if I already had the credit why hadn't it been applied already?) & that was all they will do. "Oh and by the way, there is another box being delivered next week." They refused to stop shipment on the next box & refused to give me any sort of discount even though I didn't plan to cook this week. They admitted during the call that they realized that their cancellation system had not been working properly so a week ago had changed to a new method. So even though I did my part by emailing them a full month ago I was still stuck. Had they worked with me I would have considered their service if it went organic in the future but now I will never do business with them again.
I did not order it. I did not choose the meals. I did not determine delivery date. I am not a vegan. But somehow the box arrived and now I cannot reason with them to give me a credit.
My order was su[pposed to be delievered yesterday, no info, no tracking, got tracking info today. I emailed them, n o one emailed back, still no order, poor customer service, I will be canceling.
$70 for a box of produce? Gtfo. They stole my money after cancellation and are refusing a refund. AVOID
Most if not all of the produce is spoiled by the time it arrives. Do not recommend purchasing. Photo is of asparagus that arrived TODAY... gross!
My overall issue is with the cancelation. Namely I canceled, they told me the last day I would receive a meal (September 15th) and then they sent another meal on September 22nd. I did not order the September 22nd meal. They refused to refund me, even though I did not order the meal they sent. I have an email which they did acknowledge and the email clearly states the last meal will be September 15th.
This was my cancelation confirmation email:
Hi Amanda,
We're confirming that your subscription to Purple Carrot has been cancelled.
We're sad to see you go, and hope to have you back again in the future.
You have one more order scheduled, which will arrive on Wednesday, September 15th.
You can resume your subscription at any time by logging into your account. In the meantime, we'll keep you up to date with our latest news so you always know what's cooking.
Thank you,
Your Purple Carrot Team
As for the actual meals-expect to get bruised fruit. The first time I reported it, they credited my account. However, it kept happening so much that I honestly thought they would think I was making it up because IT HAPPENED SO MUCH!
Do not order. Poor cancellation process. I cancelled the subscription but I was still charged for the meals
I was scheduled for a total knee replacement on Dec. 7th. My kids purchased me a Purple Carrot Prepared Meal program in mid November, to begin on Dec. 7th. But PC decided to start it on Nov. 30th! I figured out how to "skip" the November 30th delivery (not clearly explained, but I figured it out...), meaning Dec. 7th would be the first delivery. Got home from the hospital post surgery, no food. Then I received an email stating that it would be delivered the following day, by 9 PM. Nope. The next day, I got an email stating it was "lost", or "destroyed"; and my next batch of meals would arrive on Dec. 15th. Fast forward to the 15th - I hobbled out to look for my box - no food. Got an email saying, "Your Purple Carrot box, scheduled to arrive this week, was damaged in transit. Unfortunately we won't be able to deliver it.". But a check of the tracking info showed it still on target for delivery... today!
And, lo and behold, a box DID arrive today. The gel packs were total liquid, the entrees were warm to the to touch, and it was the FOOD I HAD ORDERED TWO WEEKS AGO, not the food for the current week! 4 of the entrees expire in two days, and two are "good" for 3 days. Which is irrelevant, because I am not going to consume warm prepared food that might have been in transit for two and a half weeks.
As others have experienced, my son, who made the original purchase of several hundred dollars, has had no luck getting a refund, but he "thinks" he has a week of "credit". Awesome.
Absolute insanity. As a health and wellness professional, I am going to share my story far and wide - this in NOT acceptable, and could actually cause someone harm. Stay away. Stay far away.
Answer: Still waiting for a response from 4 weeks ago. Other social media sites agree that it's a common problem.
Answer: This company is poorly run and very likely a scam due to their total lack of desire to work out any reasonable resolution to problems encountered by customers. They lie and twist the facts to prove the fault is yours and they claim no responsibility.
Purple Carrot has a rating of 1.5 stars from 52 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Purple Carrot most frequently mention customer service, credit card and next day. Purple Carrot ranks 81st among Meal Delivery sites.
