South City Kitchen Avalon
December 16, 2019

I have been going to the original SCK in both Midtown and Buckhead. Let me tell you SCK Avalon has them beat on everything, food quality, atmosphere, service (Christina is awesome) and more. I had the Risotto and selected Shrimp to go with it. It was the best risotto I have ever had. The place was full of folks celebrating the holiday season which made our experience even more perfect. This SCK has a large inviting bar area which is located as you walk into the hotel lobby area. Overall experience we had a lunch was a 10 out of 10, perfect score!

As a gift card receipient-Upon receiving a gift card, you have to activate it, then pick a restaurant, wait for the email to put said gift amount towards your chosen restaurant... And... wait again for the selected restaurant to have the gift amount transferred.

Then low and behold, by the time you show up for your reservation, the gift amount is already zero-balanced, because, according to the restaurant, it has already been used up by "someone else" days before your reservation.

The process was the most convoluted, time-consuming, and lame, joke. And to add 30 minutes to the dining experience to wait for the restaurant to call Open table and then to alert you: someone else has already used your gift card? Ridiculous. And to cough up money to pay for the meal that should've been covered by Open table? Infuriating.

Long story short: Open table gift card: not secured, and a huge waste of time. Do not waste your time or your money to buy opentable gift cards.

Usually my experience with Open Table is satisfactory, however, our experience last night was disappointing. To celebrate my wife's birthday I made a reservation at Jekyll Brewery, a recently-opened brew pub in Jax Beach, Florida. My wife, who loves to try out new beers was looking forward to the evening. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the hostess advised us that they were not accepting reservations, despite the fact that I had a confirmation from Open Table that we had a table for 2 at 6:30.She said the wait time was an hour and sitting at the bar was not an option. When I asked why the disconnect, she told me that they were required to make the Open Table app go 'live' in order to get their electronic menu ordering system up and running and they had told Open Table they would not be ready to accept reservations on the system for thirty days. Nonetheless, reservations were made, and people were disappointed. Why did this happen?

You booked Jekyll Brewing - Jacksonville for 2 on 06/03/23 Sat 6:30 PM. Reply 1 to confirm, 9 to cancel, or STOP to end msg. See more: https://n.opn.tl/0W5VVVFn Sent from my iPhone

New scam from OpenTable - you book a reservation but don't get the 100 points since you clicked the "Book on Opentable" link on the restaurant's we site. I've used OpenTable over 200 time but never again.

We attended a birthday party at Apeiro's in Deray, today
The service was excellent with two very attentive and efficient servers. The food was quite good and everyone at our table enjoyed their lunch. As the lunch was winding down I noticed a gentleman watching the goings on. I asked if he was the manager. He said yes and I told him I wanted him to know how lovely was the experience we had. I told him I would write Opentable to let others know.

Open Table disaster
July 31, 2015

I booked La Dolce Vite restaurant in Lamberhurst on 25th July for 3 people and it was confirmed by email. When we arrived at the restaurant they denied they had a booking and did not even know what Open Table was. They are clearly not a member of Open Table and the whole thing was a disaster- at the last minute we had to drive around looking for a table on a Saturday night with a 10 year old. I will not use Open Table again: it is absolutely a con.

Sucks
April 16, 2022

Open table is the worst app available.
It never works to book restaurants.
They text you verification codes that doesn't work.
Waist of time call the restaurant directly instead

Bad story here
March 15, 2019

We were given a Gift Card from them. The first restaurant visited (was on Open Table's list) could not process the card, se we had to pay by other means. The 2nd time worked, but did not consume all of the $s on the card. So tonight, we were going to use the remainder. The restaurant (same as the 2nd above) can not accept the remainder, because they now have no way to access Open Table to be credited the amount. Sources tell me they are no longer in the business of honoring their own gift cards or credits therein. DON"T use Open Table! I tried to call them, and they do not even pick up their phones after 45 minutes or longer. Be wary of Tird (oops, meant Third!) Parties like this. Go directly to the restaurant or use a Visa cash card as a gift.

GOING DOWN HILL
October 20, 2014

GOING DOWN HILL
OT has been declining in it's service to provide points. Is this the failure of their clients (restaurants who use this service) or. OT? In 2014 I have had to chase down the missing points, AND remind restaurant staff, upon arriving that "this is an OT reservation". I did not have these problems prior to 2014. However... using a OT forum to complain, I was able to retrieve 2 of 4 un-posted points earned by honoring the reservation. Here we go again, as I checked my account and found 2 more. This is getting old and tiresome. But by-G_d you forget to cancel a reservation and have them threaten to remove you remove OT! (had it happen once, only to have to prove that I DID show up) SCREEN captures help, people. Too bad we need to jump through these hoops, though.

Our family of 8 had brunch at the Mermaid Inn on Sunday -- a great dining experience. The brunch menu is extensive -- lots of great choices and we tried many of them. From eggs benedict with smoked salmon to huevos rancheros to quinoa salad to heartwarming mac and cheese. The fruit salad/yogurt plate was a perfect accompaniment and I loved my croque monsieur -- to die for -- as good as in Paris and served with an ample array of greens. Service was excellent as well and the facility has been expanded to two full rooms. I was impressed and will definitely return.

My wife, myself and two close friends went to Mahoganys Resturant for dinner Saturday evening. Our friends have eaten there numerous times and didn't know where the negative comments were coming from. My wife and I are new to the Cincinnati area and they suggested that we try Mohoganys Resturant and being a big fan of Opentable we read some of the comments. We were seated as soon as we arrived and the wait staff was right there. Within 23 minutes upon our arrival we were eating good food.( We had the rib, catfish and salmon dinners + deserts). Give them a second look and see if you aren't pleasantly

I've used this app 3 times and 2 of them ended in unfavorable results. I guess is is supposed to be good for the restaurant and crap for the user. It asks - SPECIFICALLY - if you want a table, a hightop, the dining room, etc. You can pick ALL of these and confirm your reservation. When you get there, the restaurant can sit you wherever and tell you that you missed something on this app. Twice, I've been seated at the bar when I specifically asked for a standard table in the dining room. At one place, we were actually told we missed a setting at the end of the app that said we'd take a bar seat if we couldn't get a table. The app can tell you then and there if you can get a table, so why would this be the case? The app is crap and you're best to call the place you want the reservation for and make sure you take down the name of the person you speak to.

Want your restaurant on Opentable? Be ready for invoices in the thousands every month!

Opentable claims to have a very large community of diners who will discover your restaurant because of the app. The reality is you will be gauged insane booking fees, even though most of your reservations will come from your own marketing efforts.

When asked to provide any measurement or data of how many reservations were from people who "discovered" your restaurant vs. people who simply looked up your restaurant, they claim to have none. Also, opentable aggressively competes with SEO, so even if you want to drive traffic to your own website for reservations you will likely be out-ranked by Opentable - at this point they are just poaching your own audience and charging you for them booking on their network.

LASTLY, opentable sends reward "cheques" to their users and the expectation is that as a restaurant listed you should accept them as cash. I have tried to deposit these very borderline (basically fake) cheques at different banks and nobody will accept them.

Read the reviews here and you will find hundreds of people complaining about not being able to redeem their rewards. Its because they just print invalid cheques out at their office and send them to their users and all the burden falls on the restaurants!

Rant over.

Follow-up review of Open Table
October 23, 2019
Updated review

I feel it necessary to add a follow-up of Open Table. My original review stated Open Table could not re-instate my points. This has changed since I wrote my original review. To be fair of Open Table, the service/communication with the staff was prompt and pleasant. They did show a genuine eagerness to resolve my log-in issues, which was the reason I contacted them in the first place. Shortly after writing the above review, I did received an email stating the points were re-instated. It is my opinion the points were not re-instated in response to the review, but because it was the fair thing to do. Thank you Open Table.

Opentable is a rip-off!

I'm a concierge here on Hawaii and have used Open Table for over a decade servicing our guests. Recently Open Table changed something in my account that wouldn't allow me to add names to a reservation. I called and said they're eliminating my account and upgrading it to a concierge account. Well after over a years worth of accumulated points, hey told me the points cannot be transferred. They just eliminated a years worth of reservations, and now I have to start all over. Seriously, Open Table? The business model is great, customer service not so much... terrible. And will not be using them again.

Wow, I'm an extensive user of Opentable.com (2-3 times a week). I find they are helpful in selecting restaurants with availability but they SUCK at service. Try clicking on the "help" link. It doesn't even work.

THERE IS NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. I had a reservation canceled even though I spend $100 so didn't get my points.

Open Table is NOT reliable - Lately, I have begun to rely on Open Table to choose restaurants. The site is easy to use and I like the list of participating restaurants. I was very disappointed, however, when I tried to make same night reservations on 5/25/08. I used Open Table to search for available seating and made a reservation at Ana Madera for 9:30pm, table for 2. We arrived on time at the restaurant and the hostess turned us away. She said that our order had to be placed before 9:30pm because their kitchen closes promptly at 9:30pm. When we asked her why we were allowed to make a 9:30 reservation on OT, she shrugged her shoulders. Had I known that Ana Madera had this policy, I would have made my reservation at another restaurant. Can I still count on Open Table?

I had accumulated 2000 points, enough for a food credit at a restaurant, but because of the pandemic, I couldn't go to a restaurant to use them. Then when restaurants reopened last March I tried to use them but they had expired in February, the previous month, after the pandemic year. They have a mechanism to write to them if you have a problem with the points, and I wrote about this problem, asking them to reinstate the points that had just expired, and they only expired because I couldn't use them due to the pandemic. You would think they would automatically extend everyone's points a month or two due to the pandemic, or notify everyone whose points are about to expire so they can use them. No. Plus, they didn't write back to say they wouldn't extend the expiration date or why. That's bad faith and bad business.

Awful site
January 3, 2022

I used Open Table because a restaurant I like suggested them from their website. I was disappointed with Open Table site from the beginning. I will not use them again. Just call the restaurant. I removed the app. I marked emails from the as spam. I unsubscribed from the emails. Weeks later I still get emails from them fortunately Yahoo for once honored my request to send the emails to spam but they won't block the site. If a site can add my email address in seconds it should have the capacity to remove same email in seconds. I have reported the company to the restaurant. I now just call the restaurant directly.
