With a week to go before we moved house, a Luton van was booked in for 8.30. Moving day, the van hadn't arrived by 9 so we rang and asked where it was. Half an hour later they rang back to say the driver was on their way and would be there in 10 minutes. Another 30 minutes passes and we ring back, this time we're eventually rung back and told that there was a technical fault with the van but it would be there by 12 (3.5 hours after we'd booked it for.) 12.30 still no sign of the van and after more chasing eventually one arrived at 1.30 (5 hours after booking time). The drivers told us the van had been 'getting cleaned' and that there was no technical fault at all.
We were moving to London that day and weren't able to get on the road until 4pm, despite us needing to have left by lunch time (which is why we booked it so early). Thankfully we had people to stay with, but we arrived in London too late to pick up keys. If this had happened in a chain, we would have been liable for a lot of fees as people moving into our house would not have been able to do so.
Friends took time off from work to help with our move, time that was wasted by the outrageous delay. The company were completely clueless about the van's location, lied to us and did not seem to understand the impact the delay had on our already stressful move.
To make matters worse, we had arranged for the van to be picked up from London. Despite telling them over 3 calls which address it was, they attempted to pick up the van 2 days later than scheduled from our previous address in Manchester. This meant us parking a large van on yellow lines in a central London location for 4 days.
The company lack any coordination, professionalism or ability to deliver what you need. If you want a van that turns up, do not choose nationwide.
The booking process has been easy compared to other companies I have used in the past. I have booked 3 vehicles so far and these have been managed by Katie who is an absolute star and when I did have a problem with a drop off, Katie resolved the issue within 5 minutes. I was a little concerned when I saw the previous bad reviews, but I can honestly say that I have had no problems so far and would highly recommend. I will be using this company again and hope to continue to deal with Katie, I would highly recommend.

Recently hired a 9-Seater with Nationwide hire to take the kids to Thorpe Park.
Super delivery and collection service, vehicle was nice clean and comfortable and the price was good. The vehicle was pre-delivered which helped as we managed to leave early morning and make use of a full day in the park instead of arriving later in the day. I found Nationwide hire online after a friend had recommended them as we were having trouble trying to find a local company who had a vehicle available. We called every local branch to us and no one could help. I think Nationwide work with a lot of larger rental companies.
The call centre staff were super helpful and friendly and assisted with ever aspect of my booking. Especially when I left my camera in the vehicle, so a big thumbs up for sorting that out and having the branch deliver it back to my door safely. Big Thanks!
I would be more than happy to use Nationwide again. The bonus being the delivery and collection which is so helpful and saves so much time at the start and end of hire. Thanks Nationwide will be back again for our next trip.

My Dad ordered us a van for our house move as I was massively stressing out as we were let down from another company in Birmingham. Thankfully nationwide said yes, we can help! My dad later called up to book it and we got same day delivery of a Luton Van. Just make sure you give a share code for your licence now so they can do a check online. Very happy with the service received. The van was a new model and was easier to use than I thought. Only thing was we did get a fuel charge after the hire but that's my fault for not filling it back up. I will be using this company again as they were really helpful and the service was really good.
Terrible company that has unlawfully taken £1200 from my account 2 months ago for damage that didn't exist... Sixt car hire have confirmed there wasn't any damage two months ago but I'm still waiting for my money taken by Nationwidehire uk... They are scammers and Marcelle in customer services is delaying returning my money for as long as she can... Not sure why as solicitor will be getting involved next.
My daughter has booked this company' to supply a vehicle so they can move into their new home at the end of the month! The money has left her account & as of yet no confirmation has been sent- needless to say she is now distraught as unsure whether or not a vehicle will actually turn up! Tried ringing numerous times & no one answers the phone! This is money she can potentially ill afford to lose as has just bought first house! Also a higher amount was taken from account than was agreed!
Moving is a stressful enough time as it is without this shambles!
And after reading all the reviews it doesn't leave us with much confidence that they will deliver the goods!

Booked a van hire several days in advance. Received several emails asking for my personal details which had already been given. Interestingly, giving this information again did not prevent the same call being made.
With no prior warning that there may be an issue, I received a text 4 mins before the booking was due to be delivered to my address, informing me that they had not been able to secure a vehicle for this booking.
Many plans of mine (e.g. Accommodation, ongoing flights, etc.) were disrupted as were those of friends and family who had taken time off to help with our move.
The worst part is that when I called the customer services numbers the phone was repeatedly put down on me. Sometimes after a few rings, sometimes once the phone had been answered.
After over 30 attempts to get through I finally managed to speak to an advisor who felt that the company was the victim here! I can understand if there was a problem with the vehicle that was not expected, but the fact that I was given practically no warning shows that there are fundamental issues with how the company is run.
I have rented many vehicles with many different companies and this is by far the worst. Avoid at all costs!

Tried to hire a van for removal to Aberdeen from ipswich, they took the money immediately and I received no confirmations at all. When I contacted them about this after 3 hours of trying phone, email and chat online. They initially refused to confirm even that I had made a booking at all, (so how can they justify taking the full fee last night in advance?) then gave me a number of different references to quote for the hire, then sent the wrong quote details under a different name via email.
All very rude individuals. Eventually told it was cancelled then it wasnt according to an email, then tried to offer me another van, presumably as they had taken the money already! Are you confused yet? I was! A very bad experience and quite upsetting. Luckily its on a credit card and visa assure me they can take action if the payment is not refunded.
There are plenty of reputable hire companies around. I've now hired a van half the price in a 5 minute call to one of those reputable companies. And received an immediate confirmation, with no money being taken in advance, happy with that.
For anyone who falls foul of this company, inform your credit card company immediately obviously, the refund has not been given as I suspected. The visa dispute team are waiting to see what account this money goes to and then they can act. Lucky I used a credit card, if it were on a debit card, they would of thought it was christmas!
Emailing watchdog next. They need stopping. If you have been scammed by Nationwide hire uk maybe contact me for a joint approach to watchdog.
Well Marcelle of customer services and what a laugh that is. You do not even stick to your own terms and conditions when it comes to refunds so I have as promised begun legal action against you.
We were royally let down on our moving day after pre booking 3weeks ahead of date! No apology from any of them! After trying to contact them endlessly on the day they eventually answered and replied, oh well... There isn't a driver available to deliver vehicle. It wasn't an option for us to go and collect as it was so far away. It completely ruined our moving day. We still havnt had an apology. Also they are holding the VAT back on the service they couldn't provide! I will be taking them to the small claim court if this isn't dealt with. Please save yourself alot of trouble and stay clear. They are a middle man who wing their luck on the day to see if they can find a vehicle. Worst service iv ever encountered!
Absolute rip off! DO NOT HIRE FROM THIS COMPANY! Led us to believe a van would be delivered at 15:00, no van arrived although they took the payment straight away.
Didn't care we were moving house and it took forever to get a refund which they tried to take back a couple of days later. These are the biggest cowboys in the business...
