We've been with Mybuilder for 6 months now and YES my husband has made money from it ( it continues to be the most 'reliable' way of generating money of the two sites we belong to ( Google ad words being the other) but it is far from being without it's down sides! The site has alot of vey questionable policies I'm afraid, that see's tradesman like my husband constantly feeling ripped off, without really being able to prove they really are being. Mybuilder holds it's cards very close to it's chest with bare minimal explanation anywhere on their sites of how they ACTUALLY work. You feel very much in the dark. Main bug bearers are-
Shortlisting. Shortlisting. And Shortlisting. When you show an interest in a job and the customer returns an interest in hiring you by giving you their contact number - this is shortlisting. Problem is several others can be shortlisted along with you ( which means all of us getting charged the lead fee- great for Mybuilder! Ketching! And great if you actually GET the job BUT 9 times out of 10 you DONT get the job. You'll find yourself chasing up the customer feeling like you are coming across desperate ( which generally you are chasing work. Der) Only to be told "sorry I've found someone else" You are left feeling dejected and pissed off. And hey that lead cost £5.80. Just one in a long line of lead fees that then mount up and up getting billed to you weekly. It's demoralizing and you end up feeling ripped off by both the customer AND Mybuilder.
Basically I think that Mybuilder needs to make it very clear to the customer that by shortlisting someone they are entering an agreement that means they have to give each and every tradesman they shortlisted a fair opportunity to quote to them. (and that ideally they will not look elsewhere on other sites! Although I realise this sounds a tad militant). We are continuing with Mybuilder for now but are looking at going on Checkatrade as this really is becoming an issue for us.
As the title suggests and if you can use a computer and phone go for it.
Recently joined my builder as a tradesmen and let me tell you that its a complete rip off from a traders point of view. You have to bid for a job and you are not guaranteed to get the job and the bids are little ums like £1 or £2. They vary from £20 to £30. You arent even guaranteed the job and cant even speak to the job poster to ask simple questions. You are literally bidding for jobs you wont get and can easily rack up hundreds if not thousands of pounds. If you are shorlisted for the job then you have to pay the money but the problem is the job poster shortlists a few people and unbeknown to them you are paying for it evetrytime.
Its just daylight robbery and shouldn't be allowed. They should be investigated as its just fraud. The bidding amount should be minimal and if shortlisted and verified by the job poster then also pay a minimal amount. Why not just keep it as a standard fee every month just like check a trade.
THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT THE MONEY SO KEEP AWAY FROM THEM. YOU ARE BETTER OFF PAYING GOOGLE FOR SOME BUSINESS.
Hassle free and quick selection for someone to do one-off jobs for you.
Easy way to find trusted tradesmen. Used 3 times and had good experience every time.
I signed up as a tradesperson on MyBuilder, but every time I got shortlisted for a job, I had to pay—even when the customers never replied or went silent. It made no sense. To test the system, I created a second account pretending to be a customer looking for a handyman. The number of shortlisting emails I received was ridiculous. Even after selecting a tradesperson, the site kept pushing me to shortlist more. This platform is designed to exploit tradespeople. They force customers to keep shortlisting, creating a cycle where tradespeople pay for leads that often go nowhere. It's a scam model built to steal from hardworking tradesmen and women.
Answer: From what I gather they just check. Insurances! No qualifications or registration checks at all!
Answer: Hi Mitsy, the service is completely free for homeowners.
Answer: Well you can always try, in anyway they would remove your reviews as they did mine. Depend which trader though! Some of them seems to be more protected than others...
