Ive been trying to help my friend get food here but they would call and misrepresent themselves and play immature games, its a real shame and they really doint care I belleive I have never met a more unprofessional staff ever anywhere!
I am writing this review on behalf of my parent who is age 76. No cognitive impairments, but chronic health conditions and physical disability. She got the meals to supplement the time it takes to cook and also because at times her body is wrecked with pain and family members cant consistently cook for them... But please be where that this company is giving vulnerable aging adults spoiled food, moldy food (saw it for myself and was shocked! About a month ago my parent had stomach cramping soo extreme she had an emotional break and we went to the ER. Then today, I get a call that they ate another one of the meals that were delivered Tuesday, and was eaten on Wednesday5/28/2025 for lunch. Crying, stomach cramping to where they wanted to curl into a fetal position. This is both traumatizing, to me and my parent. They try to force you to sign a consent... my parent had me to read it... and she declined... read the fine print. Do not let them get away with this... people we talked to say they have thrown them away. What a disgrace to give non edible foods. Lastly, we have called to share the experiences and excuses excuses excuses. No one takes accountability and I have had my parent cancel this organization. Its not offering assistance, its offer guilt grief discomfort and ER visits--sad and upset adult child... California
I live in Fremont Ohio and at one time was considering of giving meals on wheels a try but after my neighbor next door gave some of her meals from meals on wheels to try I actually got sick from them. So that definitely changed my mind. More than a few times I have overhear the gossip the drivers talking about the residents and even yelling down the hallway. Just recently a female meals on wheels driver was knocking on my neighbors door my other neighbor that lives across from me opened her door up an told my neighbor that she needs to leave!
My father who is senior, and not very fluent in french has repeatedly been asked if he speaks french when being addressed your delivery staff. It may be worthwhile to provide a few moments of sensitivity training to your delivery workers and perhaps let them know that the last thing seniors who are in a position where they need meals delivered, do not need to deal with staunch 'provincialists' who have no issue making seniors jump through linguistic hoops when their order is being delivered. Our subscription is now cancelled. Do better.
Absolutely the worst. Over the past two years the company who prepares meal for Meals on Wheels has been serving rice that is partially to uncooked rice. Uncooked rice is NOT SAFE TO EAT. Food is sometimes rancid but disguised with some weird sauce or chili pepper. Those who have witnessed the meals say what's being served amounts to elder abuse. This company's alleged philosophy is "they'll eat it if they're hungry enough. Rumors abound re: disappeaing supplies and the rotation of most meals that are at least a year old. These get are newly dated about every 2 months.
Uncooked or partially cooked rice has a high risk of food poisoning for the elderly. Ask Alexia, Siri or Google etc. "Is uncooked rice safe to eat?" Like Webmed, Healthline etc. say "NO." It has a bacteria that will contaminate any thing it touches. Pocatello, ID. MOW piles other food on top of it or mix it up as fried rice or add chunks of salmon that smells so bad. It's cooked with the thought "if they're hungry enough they'll eat it." Complaints do NOT equal ungratefullness.
Meals On Wheels food is no longer edible. Meals of thin chicken breast and pork chops are overcooked and dry and hard to cut and eat. Noodles are so overcooked could be described as "good for wallpaper hanging" Veggies overcooked, some out of cans uncooked. Occasionally get good food that appears left over from perhaps city or state function and donated to MOW, then to us delivered in crumbling appearance. It was once better. Today I stopped my donation. Will look for better help source.
Delivered and paper or plastic bags with some time spills occurs.
I am very grateful that Meals on Wheels exists and delivers cooked meals to us. We get 14 frozen low sodium vegetarian meals delivered each week. This is not gourmet cooking, but the meals are made with healthy ingredients like beans, whole grains and vegetables. We supplement them with salad kits and fresh fruit from the store. This has made a difference in our energy levels every day.
I got warm meals delivered Mon thru Fri. They'd run out of milk or even run out of meals. They did not properly prepare ahead for snow days either. The meal portions were smaller than the proper amounts also. But worst of all meals would be delivered that were not sealed properly. Sometimes having spilled out into the grocery bag it was being delivered in. When you called them, they never offered to send a new meal and they gave you attitude. Like you had no right to complain. Over-all it was a horrible experience. I know farmers who treat there pigs better than they treated me. I am now with Mom's Meals and could not be happier.
Recently started my mother on MOW and quality and quantity do not match the cost. The food is horrible, too much salt. We have only received one half-pint container of milk and what they call breakfast is not breakfast with expired cream cheese or tiny container of "fluff."
Food delivery is late The volunteer deliverer said she would always be late she likes to talk.
We tried calling but everything goes to voicemail and maybe they'll call back in a day or two.
Liver had green color on it. Who knows where they get the food? Also, I was told call medicaid for services MOW claims to have
Housekeeping, repairs, and ramps built. They said call medicaid. I believe it is all B.S.
They failed to deliver food for my wife again and she depends on that food so the only thing she had to eat was a protein shake. I can understand that this might happen occasionally but it is beginning to be a habit
I am a homebound senior with very low income, who lives in Albuquerque, and I have always appreciated immensely the 'Meals on Wheel' program. The meals, until recently, have been quite good. I don't know if there's a new chef or not, but for the last couple of months the meals have been awful. Very tasteless, little meat, etc. One meal had a slice of ham so fatty that I couldn't eat it or cut off the fat, there was too much. Another meal was pork and it was so touch I couldn't even cut it with a knife. When I did finally get a bite off, it was too tough to chew. Today I had what was supposed to be a chicken enchilada. Fatty chicken, just a few little pieces of tortilla. These are not good quality meals.
I'm writing in respond for my friends mother at 90 years old who is a receiver of this service and she wants to thank the wonderful fellas that bring her meals to her front door out.
She also wants to share with everyone her creative ideas using recycled food trays she gets daily as meals are served. It's keeps her motivated doing her art projects because it's keeps the mind healthy and strong. Thank you to everyone at Meals on Wheels for the wonderful service.
Some of the meals were very good and nutritional with meat, vegetable, and fruit. Then it gets so bad the food is not edible. For example hot chilli powder and chilli peppers. Would you feed a child something like this! Or FROZEN boiled egg dried toast for dinner, or pumpkin in scrambled eggs, or worse sour milk in scrambled eggs, or ham and bean soup with lime. For barbecue chicken the sauce is Heinz 57. Yuk! I go to pick up my frozen meals the person that delivers to my vehicle doesn't wear a mask.
Parent was receiving food. Delivery ppl would only take a minute for elderly to reach door and leave. And say parent did not ans door. Nor ans tel as parent had to walk back to tel. Very slow. Ended up in hospital. Then MOW rude person says no food as route full….on waiting list. We know this is revenge because parent complained. Beware the scam run on our elderly.
First of all, shout out to all the folks who volunteer their time & effort to making sure the food reaches those who need it. Thank you.
That being said, I'm disabled, VERY bad knees & degeneration of the disks in my lower back, so standing at the stove, cooking, is quite painful. I opted for the once a week frozen delivery, since I can't make it to the door in a timely manner. Now I don't know about the daily, fresh meals, but I pray they are better than the nasty, frozen meals. I don't know who thinks up these dinners, but there are few of them that are even edible! Most are bland, or consists of ingredients that don't go together, which makes these dinners inedible. I've had the cheap tv dinners that tasted better! I think there should be an anonymous survey given to the folks who receive these meals. That way, maybe whoever is in charge, can find a better distributor for frozen meals that are actually palatable, instead of the garbage being distributed now.
My mother loves the meals. They always have a meat, vegetable and potato. The delivery is consistent 90% of the time, as being the same time daily. The driver has been accommodating and calls if no one answers the door. For a volunteer, charitable program relying on donations, I cannot say anything negative about it
I set my expectations low but this mow's cannot even be called food. And some of the crap was spoiled. Is this how the rich United States feeds it's elderly human beings. Somebody is getting rich off this scam. Just so disgusted. And what is that foul smell all the food has. Same smell mow's had 25 years ago when my parents had this crap. The folks who provide this meals are despicable. They should eat this crap and feed it to their families.
The meal is ok at times, fruits can be damaged (see orange picture below) the people that deliver the food are sociable sometimes; but, if you ever have to talk to those that work at the location, good luck! They can certainly be replaced... Whenever they answer the phone, they make you feel like they are doing you a favor by answering the phone. Perhaps, they forget they have a job because of us...
I doubt the food is prepared under ADA guidelines. It's atrocious! Boiled potatoes and spaghetti without tomato sauce is not food. The previous vendor tried to make delicious food and they succeeded at making my 95 year old grandmother eat. Not this new vendor. It'd better if they just delivered the milk, juice and bread and butter. The rest of it gets thrown in the garbage by my grandmother and I don't blame her.
Answer: The answer is that this organization is run by well meaning people however somewhere along the line somebody's making money to give seniors bad food. Food that is in many cases expired. Or just plain rotten. Meat that's boiled until it is beyond all recognition. And when I asked for just the milk, bread and fruit I was told it's all or nothing. That only makes sense if someone has another agenda or is invested in making this happen.
