I like the plan and concept of pay as you go, the only complaint so far I have is and this is a serious concern that their pulse device drains out car battery. This happened to me twice in three days on my brand new 2022 car. Was unable to start my car as the battery got fully discharged and had to jump start couple of times before getting it replaced from dealer.

Tilly from customer service was not understanding the issue and refused to transfer me to the supervisor. I had my agent add a car to the policy in addition to the other 2 cars that I had there. When I got my bill a month later, I noticed I was being charged for miles driven during a turo trip, so I called. Tilly stated that even though my turo account was already linked, the last car wasn't showing as a turo vehicle and refused to give me a credit for a turo trip miles. I am switching from this company based on this experience. Tilly had a major attitude and refused to help and understand the situation from the customer point of view.

Racist mfs
November 7, 2022

Racially profiled by claims Representative Sydney Saari! My father was hit by White female with no license, no insurance and a expired plates. ( apparently it's legal if your white person). Mr. Sydney after hearing my father who has language barrier decided that the white ladys story seemed right to him.
When i questioned him about how he came up with that decision he started distracting me with his slizzy tactics. I asked to get camera footage and he denied, his reason was that the white ladies story seems right to him. When asked for manager he denied, laughed and hang up on me. I called customer service she noted my complaints and said a manager will reach out. A manager called and first thing she said was " his not racist" i said how do you know, she said i heard. I asked how? Because Sydney said the conversation wasn't recorded. She started telling me what decision was made on my claim. I again asked her to pull cameras she denied! I had to call her back from different number because she denied all my calls and refused to give me her name. We call a got her name Kidy Osman. +1 *******562

Not even a customer yet. According to customer sales you can't have a prepaid debit card to pay for insurance with these people. THEY WANT TO CONTRIL HOW YOU MAKE A PAYMENT. That explains why this company isn't growing. Well you don't want me as a customer I'll go else where as you sink into bankruptcy. They will for sure want my business. Not smart business practices from the get go, kinda makes me wonder how everything else would have went. I'm sure not good.

I had the worst experience of my vehicle life yesterday. Around 2pm I had a flat tire and pulled at the next exit and placed order with metro mile road side assistant at around 2pm to drop off at nearest Bridgestone Tires. It took the driver about 2 and half hours to arrive while I waited like a slave patiently. We then took off to the dealer. Upon getting there, Bridgestone told us that they are not aware of my order, no longer taking orders for the day and refused to provide service. I told them that the insurance company had provided the direction and begged them to allow me leave the vehicle at their shop so I can pick up tomorrow but all ended to no avail.

I then called the insurance company and spent another 50 mins on the phone trying to figure out why they did not inform Bridgestone about my order. Eventually they agreed to drive me and the vehicle home so that It can be repaired tomorrow because its getting dark. Another road side assistant was placed around 5:30pm to drive me and the vehicle home.

This too took more than 2 and half hours for the driver to show up. I called them at the 2 hours mark to complain but i had no option but to wait patiently. When this driver showed up around 8pm, He agreed to toll my vehicle but refused to pick me along side. He insisted that its their policy not to pick customers along and that I should use uber instead and follow him to the destination. By the way the toll company name is NEMO Towing Services. This lead to another argument with the toll driver and eventually he agreed for me to ride along and confessed that its because he wants to smoke cigarettes while driving and don't want that to be a burden to someone else.

We arrived in my home about 30 mins later at 8:30pm. This was an order placed at around 2pm and completed at 8:30pm. No one should experience this type of horrible service. I will not renew my service with metro mile at the end of current cycle. They are going to lose a royal customer at the time they could have gained because I am adding a new car in 3 months.

After 4 years with this company they decided to not renew my policy b/c I missed the deadline to send them "information" they needed to assess me being a risk... lol They requested about 15 items (including photos of every side of my car, vin number, license and other items they most obviously already had with me being a customer for so long. Anyway I missed 3 or 4 items and when I found out I promptly sent it but it was after the "deadline" so they refused to renew my policy... This is how the get rid of customers legally.

Coincidentally I used their vendor to fix my glass right before this "audit" happened and they did a shoddy job of not only installing damaged glass but also damaging a very expensive carseat.

Buyer be aware

They do nothing
October 4, 2022

Metromile won't help you with any claim. You will have to do your own work, make your own phone calls. If you get hit, they try to call the other drivers' insurance once, then tell you they won't help anymore and you are on your own. Because then Metromile has your car fixed and puts a hefty deductable into thir own pocket.

I work security at different locations and Metromile informed me that my car wasn't being garaged at the correct garaging address. I informed them that I work nights and travel for work to different locations. They nearly doubled my rates and informed me that they would need to conduct an investigation that would last 5 business days. I didn't get any follow up so I contacted them after the five business days and they continued to inform me that they were were still investigating. This lasted close to over two months of them charging me at the higher rate that was nearly double. Every time I contacted them all I got was excuses. A manager emailed me telling me that they would backdate the rate difference following the conclusion of their investigation but I didn't want to be stuck wasting more time trying to get my money back so I inquired about cancelling the policy and asked to have a manager contact me prior to confirming my request to cancel. A manager never contacted me back and they proceeded to cancel my policy. The operators were very unhelpful and passed the buck without resolution and with very little explanation. Wouldn't recommend doing business with this company again.

Horrible insurance company if you plan to talk to a live person do not get this insurance I repeat do not get this insurance you are not able to talk to the underwriters whatsoever at all. If you have any questions any issues there's no one to get in contact with.
After being with them for several years they asked me for all my information pictures registration insurance my address my ID as if it was a new insurance very inconvenient very unnecessary so I decided to send them anyhow they responded with an email indicating they received everything and they would let me know if anything further was needed nothing heard back from them and get a notice later 3 weeks that go by and they decide to cancel me. Poor poor customer service never have I experienced this with a company I beg you do not use this company it's not much cheaper than any other insurance because it goes by Miles and mileage as it's expensive plus your regular monthly fee on top of that they suck!

ZERO Stars If It Were Possible
July 25, 2022

ALL insurance companies are a rip-off, because you pay and pay for "just in case," and as soon as you file a claim, they raise your rates. But at least with REAL auto insurance, you CAN file a claim. I have been trying to file a claim with MetroMile since the auto incident on Sat 7-23-22. It's Mon 7-25-22. I have been on the phone with this company for 2+ hours and STILL have no claim filed. I ACTUALLY filed a claim in their app, at the time of the incident! And even though it shows that the claim was "successfully submitted," it ISN'T in their system! (I never got the two emails that I was supposed to receive with the claim number and the adjustor information). As SOON as I get my car repaired, I am DONE with MetroMile! This company is SIHT!

I have been a customer for 4 years without incident so i had no idea how they would respond to a claim. I have a minor fender bender - bumped a truck in a parking lot --. They paid the claimant $750 for what i considered to be no damage but it was quick. Now when i'm up for renewal they have chosen not to renew my policy under some trumped up reason that I didn't send in information they requested on my car -- they wanted all info again. Photos of all angles of auto, registration, proof of address, odometer and how did i use my car. I didn't see the email they sent; they sent no follow up email stating they didn't receive it and have cancelled the policy even though i sent in everything they requested. To me they're great (cheap) until there is a claim and then you're out.

Metromile sent me an email on 3-May asking for info by 13-May. Email landed in my spam folder. I received a non -renewal notice via postal mail on 26-May and was shocked to see the decision. Upon checking my email, I found that the email landed in my spam folder and was missed. Metromile didn't send me followup emails before the deadline or have the courtesy to call me asking for the information. I would strongly advise against buying auto coverage from this unethical company. Upon speaking to the customer service, the rep casually tells me that it is their standard practice not to send followup emails or make courtesy calls to policy holders asking for the information and that their decision to not renew is final.
I did some research online & observed that the company has been found violating multiple laws in the state of Virginia and Pennslvania. I'm filing a compliant against the company with the NJ DOBI.
Beware of this fraudulent company which apparently is publicly listed and save yourself some heartache of having to deal with their asinine call center reps.

I am out of the USA most of the time and keep getting "No pulse" when in fact I am not driving my truck at all. I have told them MANY times that the car is not being driven, so now they charged a flat rate of 150 miles when I am not driving the truck AT ALL.
I just emailed a request to cancel their insurance. I bet I will get no response. TERRIBLE insurance company.

Their insured backed into me so I filed a claim w them. Samina G from metro mile was my claim rep. She was useless. She Left a vm, she went on vacation and never heard from her again, until I received a letter from her 2 months later. Called and called she never returned any calls back for the info she still needed. Fast forward to around March 13th. I speak to Matt and they still needed a recorded interview. But I did that initially back 12/20ish 2021 (approx)when I received a claim#.
I was irritated because they were stalling and gave me the runaround. Matt recorded my second interview and so did I because I wasn't sure if they were going to do their job. He spoke to me like I was garbage. I was frustrated and he escalated the situation when he tried to gas light me and asked if I was in fear of my safety when I told him that I will record this convo for my safety as well. Finally Morgan S saved the day. Spoke to her march15 and she had me in a shop literally a block away for an estimate and reimbursed for my pain and suffering. Morgan ran circles around Matt and samina.
I would give 5 stars if Morgan handled my claim from the beginning. Samina needs more communication training and Matt needs a new profession. Thank you Morgan for getting the ball rolling. Your the best!

Metromile did very little to help me in my time of need. I guess all they want is to collect your money without putting in the care or work when it comes down to it. When a negligent driver crashed into my car, leaving it totaled, Metromile tried to pawn off the case to Uber eats insurance company for them to take care of. Not only did they completely seem to disregard my situation, there was no sympathy or empathy for me. To make things even more harsh, not only did they NOT help, they kicked me and my whole family off their insurance! In the end, it was a good riddance to not have to deal with metromile anymore but I am so regretful that I ever gave them a chance and ever gave them my money. Stay away from these guys!

Do not get Metromile
March 13, 2022

I have been in a losing battle with this company for two months. I moved from Arizona to New Mexico two months ago, Metromile is not authorized to operate in NM. I tried to cancel and Metromile required documents relating to to my new insurance, which I sent them, they said I did not have enough insurance! And continued tto charge outrageous amounts because they were not receiving a signal from my device, which was returned. I had to block my bank account to prevent them from withdrawing money. Now I am being harassed to pay $1198. Stay away from this company.

Incompetent customer service and management. They don't provide many of the basic services outside of California yet, when you purchase coverage, they take your money and don't tell you any of that!. When something happens, they say we don't do this and that in those other states … interesting company … can't believe they are in business!

Poor customer service
February 23, 2022

If you are considering Metromile because you are WFH and don't drive as much anymore, look elsewhere. Their customer service is terrible, and I cannot imagine dealing with them if I ever need them for anything more than to push paper. Also, the rate increases shortly after you sign up are bait-and-switch. Do yourself a favor and avoid this company.

About the business

Pay-per-mile insurance is an affordable car insurance for low mileage drivers. If you don't drive much, you shouldn't pay much for car insurance.
