Food basics is owned by metro. I went to get my mom a Mother's Day gift card and one of the employees scanned one card, as the one I picked up wasn't scanning and the employee gave me back the wrong card. As I went to return the card the lady accused me of stealing. I asked to speak to the manager and check the cameras proving I purchased the card.

The manager checked the cameras and told the same racist lady where the card I purchased was. She slammed the card on the counter, no apology and mentioned how would I know you're not a thief?

Well because I told you I wasn't. Assuming I am a thief based on my race isn't racist and disgusting, while the manager stood there and said nothing. I am disgusted at the human rights violation I endured today and urge people not to body food basics in Ajax on Wesley road and magil!

Having used the delivery service for the better part of a year, the quality of everything but the drivers has continued to decline. Despite insisting on no substitutions, the store consistently substitutes products—sometimes, from completely unrelated categories. When I called the customer service centre, an agent sheepishly informed me that stores were instructed to substitute products regardless of the customers chosen preference. It seems they are intent on making you purchase something, even if it is completely unrelated. I once ordered isopropyl alcohol and they sent me compress bandages.

The final straw was my last order. All the perishable food was spoiled. The pita bread was so obvious because of the clear packaging. Fuzzy, green mould patches all over ever piece of bread. Painfully obvious, yet, they sent it anyway.

I made three attempts to rectify the situation through their preferred channels but have been ghosted now for more than two months. They simply refuse to return my calls, emails, or respond to requests made through their site.

I will never again do business with this company and have informed my credit card's fraud department. I may, in the end, consider investigating legal action, especially, considering this is likely a systemic issue (if not official policy) and could possibly end up meriting class-action status on any potential litigation.

Birthday cake
December 20, 2021

So purchased a cake at the Belleville store and asked if they could write HAPPY BIRTHDAY on it for us it was done so sloppy can hardly read what was written on cake so disappointed because I didn't look till I was home.

Went to get your Boneless chicken for $3.99 lb... South
Whitby store only had small packs. At $4.99

Asked clerk for feature... he said they had no family packs as advertized. Only small ones.
I asked if they were the same chickens ln the small and and large... he said yes...
Family pack would constitute buying 3 small packs... I should have been offered a
rewrap to a family pack at $3.99lb... or at least a raincheck...
NOTHING...
He was not very courteous or helpful. 2:30 pm... June2

I bought 6 pkg of Broccoli on Sunday May 5 from the Metro at Parkway Mall. My daughter had already cooked 2. She decided the cook another 2. As she opened the wrapp.2 small cochroaches came out. Thankful she was able to catch & kill them. The remaing 2 I took back the next day and made a complaint. The sales person said it's not their fault its the manufacturer as they come from wrapped from the manufacturer. Each Broccoli was $1.99 each. I bought 6. We threw away the 2 that was cooked along with the other 2 that had the roaches. The other 2 that was not opened.I returned and the sales person gave me only $3. Mind u I bought 6 at $1.99 each. I looked at him and said "really? Then he said ok how about $7. I payed $12 for 6. He took back the 2 I returned in the pkg.am sure he did not destroy them. He obviously put them back so someone can purchase it. The next time they have Broccoli wrapped I will take a pic of the manufacturer sticker on the wrapper and reach out to them. Dont want the rest of the " but it's to let them know what happened. Nasty, Gross 😝Unprofessional! I always purchased my Broccoli from Costco. It's frozen its in a bag.only takes 2 min to steam.Metro even though it's not your fault. This is not professional nor is it right. Nasty Nasty Nasty Grossssssssss. This is Canada not a 3rd world country.

I was working Sushi shop inside Metro supermarket in Hamilton and Stoney creek.
The customer was terrible horrible. They asked me many questions without sushi, I couldn't forces to make sushi, I had to work free 3 hours every day. I couldn't get any money from Sushi company. Some customers yelled at me suddenly without reason, it was hell.
I am very happy and relief after I quit Sushi company, my co-worker all quit, run away, because of same reasons from hell customer.
Who wants to get abuse with free work without money?
I tell you, these supermarket, Metro, Walmart, the customer is hell hell devil, maybe just racism, because we are all Asian.
But do not work there, Sushi shop inside Metro and Walmart.
I also decide not to go shopping to Metro and Walmart.
But worker in Metro and Walmart was very nice, kindly, I just hated the customer.
Sobey supermarket was very good some how, supermarket manager had strong controlling, and always care worry about Sushi chef.
I tell you one more time, Metro, Walmart customer was $#*!, I hate them for ever.
I hope they life go down.
Thank you very much I could have space for my true story.
Now my hates are relief,
Be careful to go to Metro supermarket and Walmart, hell road.

I moved to Saint Laurent and two block away from Metro, I went to try this store ( such mistake).
I bought all my groceries and I didn't mind price, after paying my order at the door a young guy told me I am not allowed to take carriage out and when I asked how I take my bags to my car his answer made me extremally angry (I don't know it is not my business).
I asked myself why this company does advertising or loyalty cards when their employees does not care, anyway for me Metro is finished and I will share this horrible experience with my friends and colleagues.

Does not honor pricing
November 23, 2022

About 3 weeks ago I went to the Metro Supermarket on Belanger in Montreal to buy tonic water, the price listed on the shelf for the tonic water was $0.99 per bottle. When I got to the cash it rang up at $1.39, when I objected to the price a head cashier came over and then proceeded to check coming back with a hand full if price cards and told me that they will charge me $1.19 for 1 bottle and the rest at $1.39.
I objected to that but was not going to cause an issue, so I walked out of the supermarket.
The next day I called the Metro customer service department, told them the story and left my contact information. 1 week went by after being told someone was going to be in contact with me within 48 hours.
It's been 3 weeks now and no one has bothered to reach out to me even after 3 phone calls to customer service. This leads me to believe that not only does the store not care but the regional mangers or customer service that offers ZERO service.
I have not been to a Metro ever since nor will I ever shop there again.

Found out when I called at 1040PM (my delivery time was between 8-10pm, order was ready at 5pm) that there was an issue with the store and my order WAS NOT BEING DELIVERED THAT NIGHT, AND NO ONE TOLD ME! Then I was told that if I waited my groceries could be delivered... AT 7PM THE NEXT DAY! In the entire 5 hours and 40 minutes between when my order was ready and when I called I did not receive any calls or messages to inform me that my order was not being delivered last night. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I should have been informed as soon as there was an issue. *******% would NOT recommend.

An absolute waste of my time. You better believe it...!
I actually lost almost 5lbs in body fluid waiting under the blazing Sun, while the Metro store on McCarthy Street in Ottawa was trying to work out the glitches within its online system...
47 minutes to be precise, seating & waiting in my car for a confirmed online order placed almost 24 hours earlier, with an email correspondence stating that my order would be ready for pick up at the scheduled time... WRONG!
Metro team's (management/customer service) only excuse is that this store is new at Online Grocery business.
Say what? Total nonsense.
How lame for an excuse... Terrible Customer Service!
Metro should have gotten itself together before venturing down this avenue meant for the Big Boys.
Metro has proven not to be up to the game as yet.
Do not let the $15 first-time online order fool you by luring you into the Metro grocery store... unless your time is only worthy of a fifteen-dollar coupon to be applied onto over-priced goods, or you want to lose weight by sweating while seating in the heat during summer, or freezing yourself in your automobile in the winter months... should Metro survive the online pick-up until then!
By the time I finally picked up my "incomplete" order and arrived back home, the frozen entree in my grocery had melted due to the excessive heat and was ready for the garbage.
I couldn't be bothered to go back to the store for a refund and did not feel like requesting a stop payment for this unacceptable order and service.
I would stay away from this store for more than one reason... Earlier during the day, and just minutes before pulling up to pick up my online order, I was sold a carton of Tropicana cranberry juice which was 2 weeks past due and still on the shelf with six other expired cartons.

Shame!

DDO NOT USE THIS COMPANY
November 13, 2022

Was supposed to receive washer dryer package from them yesterday. Got an automated call on Friday, giving me a window of 3:30-6:30. Saturday comes…get another automated call saying the drivers were finishing up with their delivery before mine, and they would be at my home within the hour…. This was at 2:35… I leave work, come home….and wait…and wait…and wait! At 5:45 I called the only number I had from this company, and of course they are closed ( side note: when you call the number, it actually says please refrain from yelling and abusing our employees, which means this happens on the daily) so I continue to wait. At 6:55 pm I finally get a call from the driver: will be there in 10 minutes! Yet they never showed up! I waited for over 4 hours for these asshats to come, when they finally call they don't even bother to come. Btw…the driver blocked my phone number, so when I called back obviously no answer! If that doesn't show Quality employees what does?
When I called Costco to complain, the driver actually put on file, no one over the age of 18 was there to accept the order…. I'm 43 yrs old! Difference here is…I have security cameras all over the property… all showing NO ONE came. It's obvious this company is a complete joke…just read their reviews and ratings…but who should be held accountable is the companies continuing to subcontract such a lazy douchebag organization… who make it quite apparent they could care less about their reputation and their customers. And then lie and defame their customers in unrealistic excuses for them to just decide not come! The other reviews are 100% right.if ordering from ANY company that uses these A**holes DONT! They are rude, they lie…and worst of all? They don't give a S***! BBB complaint filed! You should all do the same, and shut them down!

Most grocery chains allow returns at other locations. Metro will only do so if it is their Selection brand. Veg looked old/soft
