I tried very hard to buy something on mercari but the seller got a message saying there was a problem with the payment, it was paypal and to use it i had to log in and use my password. This went well y end but not the seller. The admin advised i should change my password, what password, the site, my paypal what. There is no phone number for mercari and no real people just a series of bots sending out glib suggestions
I'll never use this site again it wasted a huge amount of my time and i cant understand why anyone would try to sell on that site
My best advice is to, before you purchase anything, make sure you look at sellers' reviews for a bunch of recent and past canceled orders. Sellers can cancel your ALREADY PAID FOR order for apparently any reason. Once that happens you can't rate them. So a seller who cancels the majority of their customers' orders can still have a 5 star rating. Fine when it happens once, but when it keeps happening it gets downright infuriating. And Mercari's almost nonexistent customer service is no help either.
Ebay, from my 15 + years using their site, jumps in as soon as you report a problem, and, very even-handedly, will try to resolve the issue. They don't shield the seller from negative ratings and will, in case they decide for the seller, will even negate a negative rating. At Mercari, you, the buyer, are left twisting in the wind.
We bought an item from this seller "SPOOKY" which was a surprise for my wife and the seller never shipped the item even though they state they "ship same day". It has been over 8 days now and they will not even reply to our message we sent them asking if there was a problem with the order. However my daughter also has a Mercari account and the seller has no problem responding to her questions...
Very sad and poor customer service on the sellers part. At least communicate...
Our money is held up and have been in anticipation of receiving the surprise I bought my wife to find out all of this has been a waste of my time.

I bought a particular brand of pants but I received a different brand. Contacted the seller with several messages but no response at all. The seller's name is Emily Zeh. Then I tried customer service. They were absolutely no help at all. Refused to give a refund even with pictures showing they didn't ship what I ordered. This site has the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. I'm about to dispute my purchase through PayPal.
Sold with no problems and out of nowhere my account was banned and deleted for suspicious payment activity? I've done nothing wrong and they refuse to open up again stay away from this app and plus they have no customer service number
The pro is it costs nothing to post your items.
The cons are:
When an order is placed they charge processing fee and selling fee, but you better get that weight right, if not Mercari charges the highest amount for shipping and charges you the balance, which will have you practically giving away an item to the customer according to your profit. Another con: the customers are ALWAYS trying to negotiate your already low priced item with that stupid "make an offer" button. If we want to give something away, we would just put the sale price as $0.00 and you just pay for shipping. Just make sure you charge top dollar so when they negotiate you will still get what you want. I have $5.00 shoes, outfits, etc, brand new, and these people will try to "make an offer" for $4.00. Thrift store shoppers. Mercari is NOT a thrift store! It is a selling platform people. YOU choose what to sell! New or used.
I've only sold a handful of items at Mercari but at snail pace. I guess the only appealing thing is they don't take any commissions but I don't there's enough foot traffic on this app. I've tried sharing my Mercari listings via other social media but hasn't gained much attention either. You can pretty much sell anything on Mercari, which is almost like eBay minus the auction feature. At one point, I got really annoyed at them when they decided to use FedEx only as their ship carrier. But I guess do to complaints, they now have both USPS and FedEx shipping options. It's a pretty easy app to use but it just doesn't get enough attention.
If you utilize this site, just know if anything goes awry that you will be on your own. You will receive a plethora of "no reply" emails that will offer nothing at all. They make the "help" extremely difficult to find and almost impossible to work with. To add insult to injury they will post a review for you after 3 days have passed since delivery even without a resolution. I never received the item, but they continued on with their process as if I had. Crazy and beyond infuriating. If you considering making a purchase, find another way. Avoid this site or go without unless you wish to make a donation because if something goes wrong you will be left with nothing but a debit to your account.
In the emails they said I was in violation because it wasnt what was supposed to be sold. My guess is handmade or custom items is what they claim. If you go on their page others are selling the same thing or others are obviously not custom as you can buy them at walmart. My complaint is that without notice they completely deleted my account without sending me any messages. They did this after I shipped and confirmed tracking on my items! It wasnt until I confirmed shipping that they deleted my account. And they claim that because I was in violation that I will not get my product or my money for my items shipped! I dont know what kind of business is ran like this but it is illegal to do what they did! My product wasnt stolen. And someone bought it.

I was on vacation when a buyer asked me to bundle a few items so she could buy them together. When I tried to list that bundle Mercari suspended my account because of my out of State IP address I think. I had $40 in my balance from the previous items I'd shipped out and Mercari stole that. The app closed my account and kept my balance. Interesting way to steal. There is also no customer service what so ever, you can never get your answers. Just stay away from them, they are thieves.
Only been a member since May and already experienced more seller cancellations, delayed shipping, and no shipping information on items than the past 10 years on eBay. There is no accountability to protect the purchaser. Shipping policy for sellers are not enforced. If you don't receive an item, they tell you to cancel the purchase, instead of enforcement. I was looking for another venue other than eBay, but I think I'll continue sell all my items on eBay, not Mercari. I've also noticed the exact same item on both Mercari and eBay, so what happens if there is a buyer from both sites? I think that's where the cancelled purchases are from? If Mercari had accountability enforcement, they'd be a good contender and venue for selling and buying. I hope they solve their issues and make it. I wish them well, but I'll never sell any items through them, and reduce my purchases and wait and see...
Ordered some Kyrie Basketball shoes off of them and they did not ship at all and we were the first buyer and nothing was wrong with the purchase like nobody bought it before us. Luckily was refunded the money. Seems to not be a reliable company.
So I bought a few things and sold some. But this one purse I sold on there was perfect never been used. Me being me I took pictures of the purse. The day I package and shipped it. Now it's been returned because of damages and she had it in her care for 24 hrs before she wanted to return it... So how is that right or fair. I sent undamaged goods out and get damages stuff back. There is no buyer seller protection
They have no assistance for sellers when a postal carrier loses an item or the item is delayed. Any buyer can request a refund and cancellation and you are at the mercy of the tracking. If tracking never updates you are screwed. Most expensive shipping is UPS but i never tend to have issues with them. Usps on the other hand tends to freeze tracking up a lot not sure if their equipment malfunctions or what which is a nightmare for Mercari sellers. All sellers should just stop for a week to show Mercari we are tired of it.
Mercari has a 3 day rule to send back orders. Customer service consists of hourly workers who don't care about your satisfaction. If you have an emergency and can't return the order within those 3 days, too bad. Save yourself the aggravation and go with a decent company who cares about customer satisfaction.
I bought something as a Christmas gift for my brother. It arrived totally broken. Mercari only waits 72 hours after delivery to review the seller. When you don't comply with this time frame, they review the product for you so that the seller gets paid. In my situation, my brother was out of town and didn't receive the item until after the 72 hour period. So Mercari went ahead and rated the transaction for me, and paid the seller. This leaves me with no ability to rate the seller to let them know that they did not package the product appropriately AND it doesn't allow me to get a refund. I can't even send the seller a message to let them know. So I'm out my money and my brother has a useless broken gift. This is a terrible platform that I will never use again.
If you buy, don't expect to be able to return the item. It is impossible. I received an item that was not as described at all. After a prolonged hassle of sending pictures and more pictures, they refused my request to return the item. Don't buy anything from them, they stink. Stick with Amazon. At least they let you return things
I have actually bought a lot of things on Mercari and have never had a problem( 5 stars) Recently, I gave a seller a 4 star review and she sent me a nasty chat message.(attached)

I reached out to Mercari within 15 minutes of receiving the cup I purchased as it arrived broken. They kept passing it off to seller as well as shipping company. It had been packed vey well. This was my first time using this site and doing research for a segment on online retail sites. Will not have a positive review of Mercari.
