I've sold for over 25 years on Ebay, and I have a seller's account with Amazon since 1996. I assure you that Mercari is a great place to buy and sell! They have quick customer service by email and I've never not received a response within a day! I've purchased items and sold mostly on Mercari. I sell only AUTHENTIC merchandise. There is an old scam of using real receipts to sell fake handbags and when I see those sellers I report them. The key to Mercari is using your vocabulary to leave a good description. They require all sellers to use their own photos, not stock photos. And to communicate with your buyer and make certain they understand the condition of the item. Payment isn't released until the buyer gets their merchandise and rates the transaction! Everything runs pretty smoothly. Both buyers and sellers are protected equally. Some of the lies listed in these reviews are glaringly obvious; like you can't return an item after the sell has closed and been rated. Also, as a buyer you can cancel a transaction if the seller doesn't mail your item within 3 business days. Love Mercari! When you have a knack for selling this place will be great for you! If you like great deals this is the place to buy items! Ebay's Fees are too high now, and the entire site has fake and replica merchandise being sold as authentic! I limit my time on Ebay now. If you want a fast and smooth place to buy abs sell then MERCARI is that marketplace!

Let PayPal win ur battles 2 many scammers on mercari to use it safely stick to eBay amazon since they have a lot more to lose and won't try to pull one over on you

Don't believe them!

Was sold an item that was supposed to be new and it had obviously been opened and box was stained. I had paid for new and don't believe I received what I paid for. Buyers beware!

I dont know what the heck everyone's talking about. I have sold a couple thousand dollars worth of merch these last 2 months and have had no problems what so ever. Buyers have been great and sellers attentively respond and are helpful of any questions I have e before I buy. People need to realize that in this business there will always be some scammers out there trying to screw you out of money but that's the price you pay for selling. For buyers it's even better because you can return the item if you want. If you buy a used item you WILL receive a used item. I swear some of these posts are ridiculous.
Proof is in the pudding. Even with all the bad reviews there is plenty of positives keeping mercari afloat. The app is great buff said

I have had no issues with mercari whatsoever. The main complaint I see is buyers not rating the seller after purchase within 3 days. Mercari will force a rating automatically if this happens and boom your paid. I think people aren't patient enough. They want their money now and can't wait a couple of days. Anyways I have made a lot of cash on this site and so far all the buyers and sellers I have come across are GREAT. I also had my doubts when reading the reviews and I'm glad I just found out for myself.

Horrible horrible and the seller won't respond to you at all! No one answers the phone and it's HORRIBLE! Wish I would have read the reviews first I'm telling everyone I know to stay away from Mercari!

Do not do not believe Mercari's policy when they state they prohibit the sale of counterfeit items. I've reported a few who sold me counterfeit garbage and Mercari did not do a darn thing about it. Those sellers are still selling Counterfeit products. Mercari needs to rake in those fees so of course they are going to continue to allow sellers to sell fake products. If you want to spend your hard earned money of fake garbage, then Mercari is the perfect place to shop!

Ordered an item for the first time from a seller with a perfect record of sales only to apparently be the only buyer to run in to trouble. Seller claimed item was returned to her from FedEx and she had to resend the item USPS on the morning it was supposed to arrive. I contacted FedEx with tracking number information, the item was never mailed out. I think I will stick with eBay and Amazon, I suggest you do the same.

Most of the complaints here are from people who don't read. They complained of things that were against mercari rules. Take time to read the terms and conditions and you won't have a problem. This is a great site to buy and sell. I like the way the app is set up. It is very user friendly. You can keep up with items you may be interested in buying. The search filters are great and will generate a list of relevant items. I recommend this app to everyone. And I've had to contact customer service three different times. I've asked questions, and I've had to have assistance. I've always gotten a helpful response in a timely manner.

SCAMMERS

I sold an item on Mercari And the item was in excellent new condition this Fraud buyer leaves me positive feedback about the item as soon as they receive it, and then wait 10 days to request Return stating the item wasn't as described and Mercari approves this return even though policy states u cannot return after feedback left well they still approved it. FRAUD WEBSITE MERCARI ARE SCAMMERS they claim to have customer service # but u will never reach a representative after waiting hours!

STAY AWAY!

I have been an outstanding Seller and buyer with over 200 PERFECT 5 star ratings and abided by the rules for over 3 years! After selling an Authentic Item that had proof of everything they need for authenticication even reciepts and authenticity cards They shut my page down forever just because of one complaint for a scammer that had a VERY POOR RATING! They had to ask for my social security number, photo ID and a SELFIE! These are personal private stuff that only should be given and disclosed to hospitals/ government people but not Mercari! SELLERS DOESNT GETS ANY JUSTICE! What's the rating performance good for if they don't hear you out even when you have proof! THEY WILL CLOSE YOUR ACCOUNT FOR GOOD AND HOLD YOUR FUNDS! Had to file a report to BB!

Flawed selling site

I sold a pair of 200.00 shoes that were in excellent condition for 40.00 after the lady talked me down from a much higher price. She received them and said they were used shoes which I stated they had been worn. She requested a refund and they gave it to her. Either way that is fine but what is of concern to me is that I accidentally hit the wrong button that said do u want the buyer to send item back. My thumb hit wrong button on accident and I tried to fix it. I contacted mircari and they told me they can't do anything about it and they locked me out from being able to ask the buyer if they would like fly send my shoes back. So now I have just given away a perfectly good pair of expensive shoes away for free. I'm beyond mad over this. Customer support is awful and the responses take forever to get back. I'm canceling my account and going to sell with OfferUp and eBay

Terrible place to do business. Have zeros customer service... my bank account was charged with items I didn't order, products being sold that aren't what they were advertised, and you never get phone calls answered, and emails are never returned... when you try to close out your account, that device doesn't work either... RUN away from this website.

Be aware that Mercari is hit and miss. If you hit enough returns, they don't tell you this upfront, but they will start to deny your cases. This makes it rather unsafe to buy from them unless you're very sure of what you're expecting, or you're open to the possibility of getting jipped. I just tried to return a stained item and they denied my request (I was a loyal and consistent customer who barely asked for returns in proportion to how much they rated five stars). So, just beware of this happening to you. They can be a deceitful company sometimes. Also, certain sellers are combative and defensive, and may harass you if you start a return case, so keep that in mind and don't give into their bullying.

Mercari is a terrible website that bans you for no reason! I was in the middle of transferring my money to a back account and they suspended my account, saying that I need to confirm my identity! They asked for my FULL social security number, dob, pictures of my drivers license (front and back), Live Photo and after I did all of that they aske my husband to send them all of that information as well! (only because about a year ago I made a purchase with his debit card and they had his information stored!). When you call their customer service, they put you on hold for 20+ mins and then finally when somebody answers the phone, they tell you that unfortunately there's not much they can do but let their "specialists" know that I called! When I asked how I can contact them directly, they told me that they don't have a phone number I can call and that I can only contact them by email! (Yet, they want me to send them all my personal information!). After holding my money (over $1,000) for a week and a half, they closed my account without letting me know (messaged me 3 days after that!) and told me that I'm banned for life! I complained to a Better Business Bureau and I recommend to everybody who's been a victim of this website to do the same!

Disgusting items

I ordered two spring jackets from two different sellers. I received them both the same day a couple of hours apart. I opened the first package and was disappointed. The seller didn't attempt to wash the dirt from the jacket before selling it. She said it was in excellent used condition. I requested a refund. It was approved.

I opened the second package when it arrived. I couldn't believe that someone would sell an item to someone so filthy. This was far worst than the first jacket. There was no way all the dirt would come out with several washes. I would be so embarrassed to give away something in that condition let alone sell it to someone. She said it was in perfect condition.

I contacted Mercari and requested a phone number. Apparently, you can't speak with anyone. The request was made on Friday, when I received the item. They responded via email on Saturday at 6:06pm. The post office was already closed and they are closed on Sundays. I was told I had 3 business days to return the item. That would be Wednesday. On Monday, I received an email stating I had to return the item by the date on the shipping label to get a refund. The date on the label is today, Tuesday. That's not 3 business days. I was unable to return it yesterday due to my son being sick. He is still sick today. I should have until tomorrow not today. If I'm not able to return it today, the seller gets to keep the $25 I paid for a jacket I can't even you as a dirt rag because it's just that disgusting.

In an email, I told Mercari that they should have some type of standard or protocol of what constitutes EUC, like new condition, Perfect condition, etc. I also told them it's not fair that you can't rate a seller and still get a refund. I think potential buyers should know about dishonest sellers.

All of the dark spots on the jacket shown is dirt. The pictures look much better than it does in person.

WORST COMPANY EVER!

Received broken vase and they didn't want to refund me. Finally, offered a shop credit but I was so worn out with dealing with them and trying to get ahold of them, I turned to my credit card company in order to get a refund. Horrible customer service, no returns, won't answer their phone and very rude! STAY AWAY! See hundreds of other poor 1 star reviews!

As a seller this worries me! I haven't had issues with Mercari and I referred my sister to sell on the app, she loved it, she was brought and sold on this site! So the other night my dad gave her a credit card to purchase shoes for her daughter, she was sent a notice to verify the credit card ( understandable) she got the two items Mercari sends to the credit card and was ready to verify! Well she had issues trying verify this and just like that she was banned for LIFE! No chance to show them this was a legit card and also belonged to her dad! Is this how we run a business? I sell on Mercari and I am honestly shipping my last sales and getting off, that isn't right!

They do not have customer support. I received the wrong item, so I tried to inform mercari on the
App and when I finished entering all the information the "send" button didn't work. After attempting several times, this is when Infound out there is no customer support. I then receive a notification that the item has been delivered and the sale has been closed. PEOPLE we need to start a petition and have Mercari $#*! down, they should not be in business. Let me research and get a petition started.
