They didn't have permission to charge my card again but they did. Also they doubled the price for the second month. I shouldn't even have had to cancel since I only signed up for ONE month. I disputed the charge through my bank but no luck. They won't give. There's info on the net about what it takes to get autopayments legitimately and Meetup doesn't meet the legal requirements. Will all the complaints they have it won't be long before there's a class action lawsuit which I'm certainly willing to get started. Seems since it's a relatively small amount, they figure none of us will really go after them. But I will. I'm one of those annoying people who's into the principle of the matter.
Yep we all know that they were the instigators that went to Lois Lerner in the IRS and squealed on tea party people the weasels that they are. Meet up has always been a creepy organization with bad customer service and now for them to be pushing the resist movement and did you adamantly trying to overthrow our government this organization needs to be tried fir Sedition and jailed. Bye bye Brendin McGovern, Glusman and Atkins. The people are too smart for your manipulative moves! Instigating unrest in this country unnecessarily and for no reason other than the fact that you can't handle that you lost the election. Go back to kindergarten and learn how to lose like an adult. This is a democracy and you lost. Get it?
I have used Meetup for over 5 years and with their latest update (late 2017 and continuing) all of the functions to successfully manage my group have been taken away in favor of "pretty" and phone "user friendly" for members. Chip-in - gone from the site; # of guests - gone from the site; monitoring # of no-shows - gone from the site; copying stored pictures to another event - all of the pictures are gone. I'm looking for another platform before the "improvements" become any worse!
I think that these people in fun Peeps in St. Louis MO part of meetup can learn from me be kind, Be welcoming, Be a true friend Be a person of integrity Because people who want to join needs to feel all those things without being threatened by people there talking about people is down right rude and uncalled for and the leaders be the kind of leaders that you would want because one day the shoe will be on the other foot. Talking about someone who cannot defend themselves is not a person with integrity it makes you a person who does not care who they hurt because what you do to others will someday bite you in the $#*! because it will happen Leaders should be just that leading them in something good not evil. Being intrusive into someone's personal life makes you nosey and would you like it if someone did that to you The leaders of the group needs improvements because what you do is what they do being a bunch of people you judge others and that is wrong for leaders to do when someone says don't get into my personal life it is just that and you being a leader is not being intrusive when your not asked, Intrusive is very kind from me because it is so so bad what these people do
Meet up failed to follow laws Denise Jones and a bunch of other there did this 565.184. Abuse of an elderly person, a person with disability, or a vulnerable person — penalty. — 1. A person commits the offense of abuse of an elderly person, a person with a disability, or a vulnerable person if he or she:

The course of conduct shall be such as would cause a reasonable elderly person, person with a disability, or vulnerable person to suffer substantial emotional distress; or

Fun Peeps needs to be taken away from meetup effective immediatelye
If you see these 2 people run they are the abusers
When I joined everything was fine, Joined Fun Peeps Chris and Denise Jones who are leaders went around the room several events with their phones to ruin my reputation that I can't repair at this time that group alone Bullied me to death. If you live in St. Louis, MO don't join Fun peeps they will destroy your reputation. Right now I am isolating myself because of all that groups abuse
I hated the latest version of Meetup (v. 6). It lost so much useful functionality.
Luckily, I had an old (before the Meetup update) iTunes back up of my iPhone, and was able to restore the prior version of Meetup from that back up.
This YouTube video showed me how:

It is a very good site to organize a meeting in your city where people from different backgrounds are welcome to join. One way is to organize a facebook event but another is to use this tool to organize it for people who don't have facebook accounts and don't want to get involved too much in facebook to attend events.
My personal experience: great
I've had all positive experiences. Although, I have mainly gone to the Support group meetups like Social Anxiety. I've been to few regular meetups such as Art and film meetups. When I've gone, The Organizer will ask for $2 or $3 donation to cover monthly fee. Its better to have a group private so that the Organizer can eecide if the person is truly interested in group. There are weirdos out there.
Thank you MeetupHQ. With the push of the new #Resist groups you have finally pushed me to delete my profile and end the the years of emails from your site. I'm looking forward to one less spam email now that you've decided to promote the liberal snowflake agenda. Like other celebrities, Facebook pages, other social and mainstream media sites that have decided to weigh in on and promote the lefts politics trying to tell me how I "should" think. I choose to think for myself and in that regard I am happy to be rid of you and the other disappointing sheep of the last 8 years. When you want to return to being an inclusive site for EVERYONE I may return. Until then enjoy your new groups and new role as a propaganda machine for the snowflakes cause.
Horrible. Absolutely horrible. A nightmare for event organisers. Went from a terrific feature-rich site to one that continues to be less and less functional. No question that they are doing everything they can to chop code and reduce data usage. I'm an organizer for a group with over 5K members and we are dumping them.
None customer service support. Impossible to cancel. Until for reset the password it's a problem. No phone number to call. The only email that I find in the web site they sent me this answer -"Yikes! It looks like you replied to a notification from *******@meetup.com.
Unfortunately, replies to this email address are routed to an unmonitored mailbox, and no one will read them." No one will read them? Such it a disrespectful answer
I found it very frustrating to find the right meetup group inside the meetup app. I had the name spelled absolutely correct but still could not find it. Yet google found the meetup group no problem. Suggest Meetup do some work on their search algorithm.
This site is great for meeting people with similar interests, attributes, or talents that are outside of the interests of the average local bar patron. I have a rare personality type and a 160 IQ which makes it very difficult to meet people that I can have a meaningful conversation with. I started a meetup group and have met some very interesting people. I think that groups that revolve around cleverness have better odds of turning out well because most of the people that show up can have amusing conversations on just about anything.
The much older people, shyer people, or geekier people that show up I just try to include and give them advice on things that they complain about. I like the idea of helping people with what I have learned as much as I do meeting people who challenge me and teach me things.
Most of these people would take me years of pub crawling to meet randomly
They lied: first they said they sent me an email regarding my speed dating event. That was a lie, they never sent it, second: they allow speed dating events now. SO they targetted my singles group for no reason.
Almost 1.2k of my group members were removed by Meetup.com, after I stopped charging member fees. I had to stop charging, because Meetup.com put all the unpaid members in trial... pending removal... mode. So basically, they just took my money for 6 months and took away more than 90% of my members. Now, I have no way to contact many of my friends. I emailed them and tweeted at them... So far, no response. :(
Meetup pro trial is being pushed by meetup. If you sign up for the trial... meetup makes it very time consuming to rid yourself of meetup pro. Meetup pro is 2 or three time the already exorbitant standard meetup price of around $200 per year.
I have been a member of Meetup since 2008 and have met many many friends and had many wonderful experiences as a result of it. I have lived in Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange county and have explored many different groups and met lots of great people through Meetup I seriously dont understand all the negative reviews... am thinking someone has an agenda.
I signed up to create a meetup group over the weekend. Nothing risque. Nothing shady. Just a group to enable people and business owners to develop and maintain a WordPress site. Before I could even announce my first meetup, I got an email stating that my group had been cancelled. Granted, I did plan on coming back to add more details to my profile. According to the email I received, my group "wasn't a fit" for meetup. No specific reason. Just a link to their terms page. Also that it would take 4-7 days to refund my money. Hogwash. If they have the time to review every new group, then they can reach out to new members to correct the issues before cancelling their group and making them wait 4-7 business days to refund their money.
I am not normally a complainer but as the organizer of a social meetup, I am totally fed up with trying to use the website and just go with a Facebook page and use eVite. It seems I spend most of my time trying to figure out how to address an issue I'm having and I feel my time is better spent with other things. Currently, I'm trying to figure out how to mark certain people who RSVP'd they were coming to an event as no-shows but am coming up empty. Plus I marked the people who did come and Meetup still maintained the head count for all who RSVP'd including the no-shows that I did not mark as attending!
Also - the site is not the least bit attractive and just difficult to navigate. I think by now (1-7-18) any issues they said they were having/fixing should have been remedied. Meetup is not cheap and I have a hard time justifying the amount we are paying, so it may be time to tell Meetup goodbye!
There is bad and good. If they don't like you or you don't fit in, you re just treated like dirt. Some of the organizers are very nice and others are ignorant. I already talked to organizer who had serious trust issues with meeting new people. Well duh! What are you doing on meetup? I guess it's like everything else. You have good and bad but I did meet some really cool people. There are better ways of meeting people. Oh and if you re new to a group and you re not liked, some organizers will delete the event!
Check out my site p2pcolorado.com... working to replace failing meetup, as a five year organizer, with my own site... Meet-up sucks... hate it now! Also lost a bunch of unpaid members and all control of my group... lame!
Answer: All Meetup has now is a database of names and a reasonably efficient way of routing new members to your group. But the tools for organizers are wretched and, by design, have gotten worse. This is the only company I've ever seen that doesn't care what the application users, in particular the organizers, want and need. The list of bad changes is very long--and they don't give a damn. And to add insult to injury, they are inept at application development and coding. They pushed out what might be laughably called alpha code and then scrambled to fix issues, saying "it was a work in progress." A major software release should not be a work in progress. Without comment, they remove functionality. For instance, when asked why they removed the ability to post a note on the calendar, their answer was that "only 3% use the feature. So what--now only 3% are pissed? Leaving the feature cost them nothing. I evaluated software from Microsoft and others for a living. Meetup by far is the worst I have ever seen. The "show runners" should be fired and given bad recommendations. And when a competitor comes along that is competent and cares about its users, Meetup will disappear and we'll all celebrate. The organizers en masse don't just dislike the app, they dislike the folks responsible for the mess that Meetup has created.
Meetup has a rating of 1.3 stars from 498 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Meetup most frequently mention customer service, credit card and many people. Meetup ranks 500th among Social Network sites.
