After your dental implant surgery Perth, your dentist will suggest you take some time to heal before resuming your normal daily activities. This is because the area of the surgery is still very fragile, especially if you had a bone graft surgery prior.

This means you need to avoid anything that will stress the surgical area.

1. Avoid Taking Hot Drinks and Foods

Avoid using a straw to drink liquids immediately after the surgery. Drink plenty of water after the surgery.

3. Don't Rush To Consume Hard Foods
Hard foods like nuts, hard fruits, chewy candy, etc., should be entirely avoided for the first few post-surgery days.

Chewing on hard food puts pressure on the fragile and sensitive gums. This can cause severe oral pain, headache, and bleeding (in the worst cases). You need to allow the implants to heal completely before gradually adding some hard foods to your meals.

4. Maintain Good Oral Hygiene
Just because implants have a high success rate doesn't mean you don't need to keep them clean. Dental implants are best cleaned the same way you would clean your natural teeth.

Practice good oral hygiene. Rinse your mouth after meals to erase any food particles stuck in your teeth.

Saline water is preferable for rinsing your mouth after a meal.

Even after the aftercare tips, you still have to maintain your implants properly. You don't have to worry about the process. Dental implants don't require high maintenance.

Simply adding a few changes to your lifestyle can do the trick.

Brush twice a day, as recommended by dentists
Use a soft toothbrush and low-abrasive toothpaste
Use implant-specific floss to floss daily. It's important to remove hard-to-reach food particles without harming the gums
Avoid smoking. Smoking affects the quality of the implants and causes oral problems
Rinse your mouth with an oral irrigator
Visit your dentist about once every three months for a maintenance check-up
