Horrible company!
June 2, 2025

My aunt paid for a cancer policy with Manhatten Life for 36 years. She was diagnosed with cancer in 2024 and died from it 2 months later. I've submitted her death certificate, which clearly states carcinoma as her cause of death, and all of her pathology reports and medical records. They refuse to pay a single dime. They keep telling us that we haven't proven that she died of cancer. PLEASE DONT GIVE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY TO MANHATTEN LIFE, YOU AND YOUR FAMILY WILL NEVER SEE A DIME. We've been going back and forth with them for nearly 2 years.

They are double the cost of many other insurers. I made the mistake of trusting a fast talking insurance agent. Got much better deals on my own. Now that I have cancelled the insurance, they are denying claims made during the policy period. There are better companies you just have to look for them.

I am self employed so I had to purchase commercial. The Sales Rep did their job, essentially making me think it was a good health plan for my basic preventative needs. Come to find out, after paying a lot on premiums, they covered NOTHING as I still had to pay out of pocket for copays and am now stuck with high medical bills, on the back end.

Worst experience ever
August 19, 2024

I never felt so thrown off after speaking to the last agent on August the 19-2024 this person did not know customer service very well and was basically arguing with me cutting me off constantly even when I repetitively ask him to let me finish he was more worried about winning the argument that he had with himself. I can assure you that the only thing he win was making me think about taking my business somewhere else. Definitely not worth keeping this policy after all. And I do not recommend it to anybody.

Failure to pay claim
February 20, 2024

Company rep said verbally company would pay a radiation claim for skin cancer. Brochure says it pays for radiation trreatments. Then the company refused to pay a $14,000 claim even though a radiologist stated it was needed to save the clients life. Patient had to pay. Worst health insurance company ever encountered. Lawsuit being filed. Stay away from this low life operation

Awful Garbage
January 10, 2024

I have had good and bad insurance programs over the years. Manhattan Life First Health is by far the worst. Do not fall for the sales pitch. On paper the program looks like a good value until you are in the program and they refuse to pay the majority of claims. I required a hand surgery and their response to the physician and the hospital was "pay our of pocket and we will review the codes on the bills and determine if we will pay". WTF, have you ever heard of such a thing? Spend $40k and we will let you know later. On top of that, the scumbag representatives disappear after they bend you over. Run from these clowns, a total waste of money.

Won't pay
November 27, 2023

They love to take your monthly payment, but good luck finding an agent that actually cares. I have submitted 2 claims, we are relatively healthy, they continue to find fault with the claims but don't let you know unless you call repeatedly.

This company is really a joke. I made the stupid mistake in trying to do business with this insurance company almost three years ago, after about two or three months, I spoke with someone and told them that I NO LONGER wanted to do business with them. Just three months ago I decided to take a look in MyPay to go over my deductions and I found out that Manhattan Life had again, started taking allotments in the amount of $49.00 dollars out my checking account for at least from February of this year (2023). This is fraud and I really do not know how to address the issue, but my plan is to talk to someone in their corporate office and also report this incident to the better business bureau. I've never been so insulted and disrespected in my life.

Stay away, legal scam
September 22, 2023

I have been paying this company
Thru payroll deductions since 2016, twice a month they deducted their fee.
In April on this year 2023, I became severely disabled and tried to rely on this company to cover my disability claims. From the start this company began issues with me when it was time to pay out.
They even went so far as to want the doctors progress notes, the doctor's signature with the comment; under continuation of care"" isnt enough to suffice. They are not part of my care team, therefore not privy to my protected health information. Even under HIPAA, they arent allowed to have access to my personal sensitive medical information. Especially to double check my medical Specialists.
All excuses to not pay out.
I encountered this request for my medical notes last month and I told them no for the above reasons. So I asked them what to do and they told me to have doctor state under continuation of care and I even called twice to ensure no delay in my so called Sept payment, oh by the way it won't be arriving on the 25th.
People go with AFLAC, my coworker opted for them and he had to use and never an issue per my coworker. I don't personally know.
In summary, this company is unreliable! Be WARNED.
I

Vision coverage- Terrible
September 1, 2023

Never more deceived by any company or insurer. The allotment for a pair of glasses is pathetic, it's hidden in policy verbiage with no amount given. Came recommended by Boomer Benefits and as Medicare rider, Vision Dental Health. Very disappointed. Ripped me off for $700.

I love having $0 deductibles and $0 co-pays and the price has never went up since the day I enrolled a few years ago! Have never had any issues with a claim I've made, and this company has paid me the difference for whatever was leftover for the balance on a bill!

I thought it was too good to be true for the low price I was quoted but it has been very real and I'm extremely happy with the coverage. It's called 'Affordable Choice' and I highly reccomend it to anyone who can qualify for it!

Disappointed
February 11, 2023

I'm currently trying to collect from them after having surgery. It's a joke what you have to do an go through.so far I only recieved half of what I paid for an they deducted my premium from so check. Now mind you I pay every two weeks through payroll. An every time you call you get someone different which they tell you something different every time. Now mind you I've been paying for it since 2015. So nooo I would not recommend this company. An God forbid your dr makes a mistake on your forms an crosses it out an even initials it they won't except it. So you have to file all over again. I pray every day I get what they owe me.

DO NOT - STAY AWAY
January 30, 2023

This has got to be one of the WORST experiences dealing with almost any company in my life. Communication is horrible, topped off only by their MIScommunication. I'm told everything is good on one call, then told a week later after receiving nothing yet again, there is one tiny thing needing to be addressed. Then I go through the EXACT same thing 2 more times in the next weeks to come. Then I'm FINALLY told my claim is approved (on a Friday),and I should expect a direct deposit by Mon, but Tues at the absolute latest. On a gut feeling I called back on a Monday (mind you 1 1/2months after filing a claim) and now they MAILED a medical records request. They do EVERYTHING they can to delay and not payout. Save your time, stress, and maybe your life and just go with Aflac. This was the WORST business decision I've ever made. Oh, and yeah, I'm STILL waiting to be paid by a policy they they don't hesitate a second taking my money for.

I would never recommend this company. If you buy a policy, read the fine print. They have put me through hell just to get half of what I paid for and counted on. I believe they make you jump through the hoops in hopes you just give up. My policy is supposed to pay me for up to one year and if my claim last that long, it won't begin to touch what I paid for this coverage. Defiantly not a customer satisfaction company.

Extremely expensive Dental, Eye, and Hearing. $62+ for my husband and I EACH and then dental coverage is risible. My husband needed 2 crowns that they don't cover until the second year. Out of pocket over $1500 AFTER paying $1500 for the year in premiums. RUN! Find a Co-op or Dental School because all Dental Insurance is pretty horrible. I just canceled my policy.
