I signed up over two weeks ago as nd even sent a email directly to Erica. She told me that my account hasn't even been approved! Really because I just did a simple signup. So I haven't even been able to even see the free site and the paying site. Funny as im an older retired man 50 plus years and just started getting into sailing. But if I can't even get my account verified I guess I'll just dock my boat and walk the beach to find a mate. At least I won't be waiting endlessly to join Lovesail.com.
Its about $30 US for a month (depending on exchange rate). Using the sites own search tool, there appear to be about a dozen women total under the age of 50 who have logged-in in the past month, and many of those profiles look like they signed-up then never revisited. The "free" version of the site is pointless since you can't message anyone. This might be a nice app for retirees (for lack of better options), but for anyone else its just a hole to throw money in. They need to seriously change their business model or improve their user-base before accepting money. Otherwise, they are knowingly scamming.
It's a great site for people sailing!
Some comment from other reviews are like this:
"There are many older members on this website, many arent active enough"
I will just say - If you want more action go to tinder...!
I've been a member of this site for a month now and have made loads of new friends, really impressed. You do have to pay but they don't hide that fact. It's not expensive and worth it for the caliber of people I've met.
If you are willing to spend a little bit of money, perhaps Lovesail is an okay site, but if you don't spend any money you will get nothing. " So-and-so has sent you a message! Upgrade now to see what she has to say!" Yes, you can indeed sign up for free, but the site won't do anything for you until you pay to upgrade.
It's a dating website for sailboat and sailing Enthusiast. You cannot send messages unless you're a paying member and most of the profiles are very old. They're also very few members and most are in their 50s and 60s. I have been on there for about a year and not seeing anyone new joint in quite a while. Everyone within a couple hundred miles is all over the age of 50.
I don't understand why this site has been rated so badly. I have been a member for 6 months now and have found it to be great They have a lifetime membership - what's not to like?
Did not get any contacts after a month waste of money i would not do it again, a real shame reviewed in 2023
Just joined this site and I'm really enjoying it. Lots of proper sailing folk. Site admin is an actual person and replies personally, very friendly.
I've been a long term member on this dating website. The website features a small community platform for people with an interest in sailing. It offers crewing opportunities, friendship and dating for members. The website has been up and running since 2004. The layout of the website is simple. It is easy to use, therefore convenient for older people who arent too bothered about technology. There are many older members on this website, many arent active enough, probably because the site in itself is quite boring and offers very little. There is no variety here. So for people who are seriously looking for potential partners it is the worse place to be. Many members have been on this site for years and have very little hope of finding someone serious. The online community is very small, only 6000 members, many of which inactive users. Some members are even allowed to use the website for prostitution purposes and in fact this website doesn't have a secure online connection so it doesn't provide any safety for online card payments. Within 2 days of making my membership payment, my bank account got wiped out. This is one website to stay away from. Whenever there are issues in between members and if you ever report any wrong doing, you won't get any action done against the offenders and you are likely to be expelled from the site. The majority of members on this site are also time wasters, who will write endless emails but always make excuses when it's time to meet. So overall, there is a genuine reason why after so many years, this business hasn't flourished, it has very little to offer, compared to more established and famous dating websites. Best to keep away as it is a dangerous website.
Hello, my name is Erica, I own Lovesail.com. As I mentioned in the review above I have been running it for 8 years and it has been established since 2004. I was very upset to read this review by Fiona G as it contains not only inaccurate information but it is also full of derogatory comments about the members and libellous comments about the site. I will try and answer each point.
1. Our website is easy to use and the layout is good. We have just upgraded to new software to make it even more user friendly and current. We now have instant chat and video messaging as well as the usual email messaging.
2. We have members of all ages and from all over the world. We probably have a higher proportion of 35+ but that tends to be a sailing demographic anyway, something I can't change!
3. It's not boring, we have an active database of members. We also have a user blog section and a crewing section where members post opportunities for crew to help out. I myself will be going on a dolphin expedition around the Mediterranean this year with one of the members. You have to be proactive on dating sites, sitting back waiting for someone to look at you is not an option.
4. Yes there are a few members that have been on the site for years. That's because we have a lifetime membership! They stay on the site for friendships and crewing opportunities.
5. Now the biggest porky pie. The statistic for the online community, 6000 according to Fiona G. Well, this is incorrect, not only that but there is no way she would know this figure. I run the site and only I am party to this information. So unless she worked for me, which I know she did not, she would have no way of knowing such information. We have a lot more than 6000.
6. Prostitution? Really? Now she's really scrapping the bottom of the barrel. There are no ladies of the night on this site.
7. We do have an secure online connection https :// take a look for yourself.
8. We use Paypal for all our secure e-commerce. They keep all the financial records not us. The last statistic I saw said Paypal was the 6th biggest tech giant just under Amazon, has 17 million merchant accounts and process $8000 in payments every second, yes every second. I've never been approached by any member with this kind of complaint.
9. Reporting members. We take the reporting of members very seriously. We don't get many, our members are a friendly bunch. We investigate each report and try to find a resolution. A thick skin is needed when online dating and sometimes people have a different idea of what is impolite or bad-mannered. We provide members with safety tips to follow when meeting and encourage them to only use the site messaging facility until they are sure about someone.
10. We're not the same as the big dating sites. We are a niche site for sailing enthusiasts. This gives us an advantage and means we can provide members with a more human, personal touch. Why not come and try a one month membership and make up your own mind.
Thank you.
I joined Lovesail a few months ago and have already made some great friends. I have a summer of sailing planned to build my miles, Boris permitting!

Answer: Please contact admin at admin@lovesail.com if you have any questions about the Lovesail site, please do not use sitejabber, it's a very poor review site, fake reviews from competitors are rife.
Answer: I have been a member for 4 years and had a holiday in Antiqua and weeks sailing at Cowes, without making any effort at all. How can you lose with a one off payment for life?

Hello, my name is Erica, I own Lovesail.com. I've been running it for 8 years now, it's been established since 2004. Yes Steve F is right. We are not a free site but we don't claim to be. We explain how we operate on the About Us page (find it at the bottom of our home page). Anyone can read it even non-members. We have a website that is full of genuine sailing enthusiasts. We achieve this by charging a membership fee. Profiles are monitored and checked by hand and anyone that is not genuine gets deleted. We can tell which ones are not genuine, we've been doing this a long time. We think our prices are very reasonable, considering our costs, and especially when compared to other dating sites. We don't use recurring payments, we think they are unfair. We even have a lifetime membership so members can take their time looking for the right one. It also allows them to stay on the site for friendships and crewing opportunities. If you are looking to meet a friendly community of sailing enthusiasts from all around the globe then you will find that at Lovesail. If you are looking for a free holiday on a yacht, you're in the wrong place. Thank you.
