“Exceptional Doctor”

ANURADHA G.
1/8/24

I was recently seen by Dr Victor Fernsndez and it was one the best experiences I have had at Kaiser. He is just amazing! He knew my history. He Identified tests that needed to be done. He cared for me as a patient. I felt my medical situation was taken care of with the right concern, friendliness and care and professionalism. He is the best doctor I have seen so far!

“They couldn't even take a splinter out of my finger.”

Thomas P.
9/26/23

Got the run around to x rays, to a specialist who refused to even touch my finger. Went home a squeezed out the splinter myself. You will only get help if you go to the ER and pay the high co pay. Doctors are useless. No clinic to go to, to actually get any kind of treatment. Just take your premiums and co pays every time you see a "Dr."? 80% Indian Doctors who got their licenses in India. ( need I say more)

Kaiser has gone from good to almost unusable, the waiting time for a appointment with your Primary Care Doctor one month plus, it used to be next day. I have cancer and my doctors refuse to do the surgery which be best on the ground of wanting to do no more harm then good and instead suggested " active surveillance". I can not recommend them anymore. It appears they are piling in new member and do not have the personnel and facilities service them properly. Stay away..

Their services are getting worse and worse every year. Out of three health emergencies, I had one okay surgery, followed by a potentially dangerous mis-diagnoses, followed by one nightmarish bypass and recovery experience I'll never forget. I will be using another provider next time.

Since Monday I have played phone tag with my primary Drs nurse. The advice nurse and now it's Friday. The weekend. Still no medication no appointment. In my opinion as an RN I should hv been referred to another dept like internal medicine or infection control. But instead was referred to ophthalmology AGAIN. Even though they did zilch for me. Now I hv to suffer through the weekend with no medical care. Maybe next week I'll be able to get some medical care Maybe.? I'm hoping Wish me luck

Due to lawsuits by blacks against KP they've gone woke. Their IT team is mostly black and the website crashes constantly. No way to commo with one's doctors.

Kaiser decided seniors needed the crap Medline at home offers.Kaiser decided what otc products seniors use.Kaiser pretends the absurd prices for medline at home are real.$10 for 16 ounces of hydrogen peroxide?Kaiser must want more waste.Every order is shipped.Every item had it's own plastic bag.Kaiser decided all seniors want an extra soft toothbrush.I do not ever take cold medicines, use adult diapers or drink liquid meal replacements. The only way to make Kaiser change this crappy benefit is for everyone who hates it to write to Kaiser. You can write though the website, not the app.The ingredients and upc codes are not listed in description. Neither is it clearly listed where the product is made.Someone is making a lot of money on this.I wonder who. Also the free Dental benifit can only be used through Delta Dental. My dentist does not take Delta and I am not willing to change. Please look up reviews of Delta Dental by consumers and Dentists.

The ER at Kaiser Roseville has been neglectful in my care, bordering on malpractice. The doctors there on multiple occasions sent me home without observation of new treatment for a serious heart condition three times in a week. I was repeatedly sent home only to have to go back the next day for the same heart issue. They seemed to have no interest in taking the proper time to make sure any new medications or treatments worked before discharging me, most likely due to their overcrowding problem.

The first visit took 8 hours to be seen and treated, the second visit took 20 and the third visit took 2 days. No accommodations were made for my size, and the small, hard gurneys left my hips and back in tremendous pain, leaving me to suffer for hours in agony. Each time, the rotating doctors would prescribe something new and then rush to discharge me without making sure that the treatment worked, and each time it didn't, I had to come back for the same problem. Three times in the space of a week! In the ER, as many patients were left in hallways as actually had rooms. It was nearly impossible to navigate my wheelchair to get to a room or the bathroom. On the second visit, I finally got a hospital room, but the experience was not a good one. Nurses frequently ignored my calls for help and at one point, when my external catheter failed, I was left sitting in my own urine for 2 hours without assistance. After that, a Dr. Lu changed my medications and sent me home without observation again. Finally, on the third visit, (after a nurse failed to provide my blood thinner on schedule), a Dr. Patel tried to send me home at noon, after just changing my medications a fourth time that morning, I had to advocate for myself and say no, that I didn't feel safe going home and I needed better care. I had to get a patient advocate involved as well.

As they could not provide admittance into the hospital at that point due to overcrowding, I was transferred to Mercy San Juan, and the difference in care, competency and professionalism was astounding. Kaiser should be ashamed for failing to assist a heart patient after multiple visits and just trying to rush me out as soon as possible instead of taking the time to help me at my most vulnerable.

Most recent complaint: 2 months to get an appt with neurosurgeon. Found electric stimulus item that gives temporary relief. Cancelled that appointment. Kaiser mailed notice to me that they had unsuccessfully tried to contact me to give me chance at an earlier appointment. Now I get 'callback' message at ANY of their phone numbers. Kaiser claims to have returned phone calls. I am retired. I have cellphone and landline. Kaiser messages were not left on either phone.

From 2 years ago: Dr's notes referred to abusive, alcoholic husband Fred as my 'problem'. Husband died 12 years ago. Husband was not a drunk, was not abusive, and was not named "Fred".
I begged for MRI for back pain. Dr. Said he disagreed; did not feel an MRI was necessary.
I overdosed on Bayer Aspirin. I was hospitalized for 6 days. OT asked why overdose happened. I explained back pain. She had hospital Dr. order MRI. Results showed spinal stenosis & cysts. This Kaiser Dr, retired shortly after my hospital stay. Never saw that Dr. during my stay in the hospital.

Kaiser insists on payment plan - credit card on file. I suggested Kaiser set up Paypal. I allow as little of my financial information as possible anywhere online. I have Medicare Advantage through Kaiser. Never got clear picture of 'benefits' I am supposed to receive for $53@ mo. Out of pocket I pay in addition to my Medicare coverage. I requested hard copy via U.S. mail. Every month Kaiser wastes 8 pages of paper to provide information that could be reduced to one page. Kaiser online bill information page today won't allow me past the page that insists I 'Accept' electronic/online bill information. Clicking 'Decline' is not acceptable. I can't get to page to email Kaiser Member Services about any of this. And, of course, speaking to a living human being on a weekend would be out of the question. Monday through Friday likewise, chances are slim & none.
I am looking into other providers. I am extremely dissatisfied. My physician I was assigned to two years ago recently left Kaiser to work for a different provider. I am currently without an assigned physician. Kaiser continues to run ads that say exactly the opposite of what things are like now.
Kaiser needs to clean up their mess before they advertise for new patients.

The number of job openings at Kaiser Permanente sends a very clear message to me.

Kaiser has worst customer service in terms of appointment and follow up. The average wait time is around 2-3 months to get the appointment with specialists. If you don't need to see any specialists then it might be a good choice for you.

My husband contracted covid in Jan 2021, emailed his primary hoping to get at least meds to aid him as he has a-fib heart condition. Was not looking for a 2 hour turnaround, but his doctor, Dr. Paul, never ever contacted him. Three days later with myself and daughter advocating for him as he was too sick we got another dr. at Kaiser to prescribe meds. I am not with Kaiser and I got help as I contracted covid within 24 hours. He went to the ER at one point, but I believe the worst was over and he was offered no treatment. However, they told him he had diabetes and had had it since June when his blood sugar was over 300 and at the ER was 330. His primary missed this as well and failed to tell him he was diabetic form June to Jan. Needless to say we have switched primary care physicians. Kaiser is has slipped horribly since he first selected that plan and I believe they absolutely no longer deserve their 5 star Medicare rating. To be fair the doctor he finally got help from (late in the game) really helped him via telecon and scrips, now couldn't his primary Dr. Paul do right by him absolutely no explanation no contact really poor on his part. Filed a non-Medicare grievance and was told simply oh well he finally got help and will let the team know about his experience - no action taken. Should have filed a Medicare grievance but didn't and didn't know he was not given any diabetic help when he first became a diabetic and as a result now has diabetic retinopathy, which may have been avoided if he was given care and meds sooner. Kaiser in our opinion caused him harm, not help.

Tip for consumers:
Compare Medicare Plans yourself do not rely upon Medicare star ratings, which may no longer be deserved.

Kaiser makes many things easy, but it has become either greedy, or unable to hire enough health practitioners to provide timely appointments. Two months is too long to wait. I also had a very weird issue where I booked an appt, but Kaiser called to cancel 2 days prior, due to COVID. Their medical software, or a tech, took my suggested reason for that appointment, and inserted a record with that diagnosis, as if I'd been seen. They even extended the issue to both eyes. I've never seen this Dr in my life. They repeatedly billed me, I told them it never occurred, the doctor said she'd fix it, but billing refused to remove the fake record and sent the bill to collection. After 6 months of my emails, they modified some records to extend the falsehood, making the cancelation phone call a 'telemedicine' call, which it was not. So they stick to a lie rather than admit a mistake, which seems like an unhealthy business culture to me.

I was about 13 weeks pregnant at the time and was finally being seen for my first prenatal appointment after scheduling it a month in advanced. I received my first ultrasound and was told I must be mistaken about being pregnant because my doctor saw my uterus was empty. She went on a rant about how common miscarriages are and how that's most likely what's happened blah blah blah. She sent me to radiology to do an official scan and within seconds the technician could see a baby with great heart beat and fetal movement measuring exactly 13 weeks and 5 days. After collecting myself after what felt like an emotional rollercoaster I left and immediately felt like I should change where I receive my healthcare! Why in the world would you confirm a miscarriage or insinuate your patient is delusional about being pregnant with zero proof?! I am still very upset about this!

I have no idea what has happened to Kaiser Permanente, but they have seriously gone downhill since I was last with them 2000-2010. I have had a Neurologist overseeing part of my care since the 1990s. I rejoined 2021 and was actually told by two Kaiser Primary Care Practitioners I could 'not' see a Neurologist and the Rx from my Sharp Neurological Surgeon - of exemplary standing - was bad - and they would not refill it - and that I need vitamin supplements and acupuncture instead. Seriously?

Friends. I'm game for any preventative care, but as a life long Neurological patient... ya. No. This is not a solution. It is ignorance at the Primary Care levels.

I have been in an 8 month fight - EiGHT months, friends - a fight to receive something close to appropriate care. It has not happened yet. So I am writing to hopefully help others from making the same mistake I did (foolishly switching to Kaiser). Don't do it.

I am removing both myself and daughter from Kaiser Permanente insurance at Open Enrollment. There is no hope for this company on their current path, and it is very sad. I hope will take my review seriously, and choose another health insurance provider.

To your continued health and success, friends.

Better than no insurance I guess, and one extra star for Dr. Mandoza, who was really the only good thing about them. This is cattle call insurance, they do the minimum and their individual plans are pretty expensive. Wouldn't recommend.

I had Kaiser for years and it was good until you get sick. Then it would probably better to have another health care plan.
