I love the violin for my son. The only two issues I do have is that the violin came with a bent string. The violin was also slightly scuffed. So I have to replace the trying before even being able to play the instrument.
I ordered cello gut strings for my Greek Karpathian Lyra. They were very expensive but the quality is unmatched. These are by far the best pure gut strings I have ever used. I guess you get what you pay for. Along with the excellent service, I couldnt be happier with my purchase.
The products offered are of very high quality and very easy to order from on line. Their response is always helpful and friendly and their deliveries are quick.
So easy to order and convenient to pickup and drop-off at my childs school. Also, when there is something wrong with the instrument the exchange is super easy and the staff is always extremely helpful.
Good company, good products and staff is knowledgeable.
The catalog is also very well done and paper quality is high.
Phone support also very good. All in all, a very fine company to deal with and a company who cares for the musician.
Shipping also always on time.
Yes, I received my order. But I was wondering about the E string. Am I supposed to use the ball on the end of the old E string when I use the new one? I haven't used the new one yet because the old one is still good. I just bought a whole set of strings to have on hand for any emergency string change. Anyway the new E string does not come with a ball at the attachment end to the tail.
Comfortable and cheap chinrest from Johnson String is making me very happy. It was easily put on my instrument, and ever since then I've been very pleased with my new angle--I switched from a center mount to a left over-the-tailpiece mount, and I must say it's a better fit for me.
I sought a violin shoulder rest for a small size and specific brand (based on our teacher's recommendation), and I couldn't find it on other major string supply sites at all. A major online retailer I tried had it for three times as much (!). This came quickly, and the quality is as high as we expected based on the teacher's suggestion.
I ordered the Warchal Amber e string, which I really like. The price was less than half compared to any other place. I received them very quickly, which is especially commendable considering the holidays season. JS bothered to go the extra step and confirm I indeed receive them. Couldn't be happier.
We used the music school pick up for my daughters violin. It was fast and easy. Very impressed! Will definately be using them as she continues to grow!
I usually order my violin strings from Sharmusic, but I received an email from Johnson Strings advertising a 25% Cyber Monday discount. When I tried to apply the discount, I got a message that it was invalid because the strings were already on sale. It's true that the prices are discounted, just like Shar's. They are the same price to the penny in both catalogs. But when Shar has a sale, it is off their standard, always discounted price. Assuming Johnson Strings, likewise, always sells their strings at this discounted price, they cannot legally claim that they are "on sale". From now on, I'll stick with Shar, which adheres to ethical business practices.
I was a hesitant about purchasing a guitar online. I sent an email asking to see a picture of the guitar I was interested in. Within the hour, Justin sent 5 pictures of the instrument! He promptly replied to all my emails asking questions about the instrument. Once I made the purchase (great price on a B-Stock Eastman by the way!), the instrument was shipped and arrived promptly in the time and condition promised. Since then, I have emailed Justin a number of times asking additional questions and he continues to reply promptly with knowledgable information. What tremendous customer service. Thank you Justin and Johnson String! You will continue to get my business.
Order came through in record time and the strings are all great. I did have to do some outside research as the names of the different grades of Pirastro strings are difficult to remember. That said, the service was great! Thanks!
I place an order for a book for my son's Orchestra class. I normally order everything on Amazon but I couldn't find what I needed there. So I ordered from Johnson strings and everything went smoothly. It is legitimate and reliable. I will definitely order from them again!
I was talked into getting a replacement violin/upgrade by doing the Johnson rental through mail by our violin teacher who speaks highly of Johnson String/Carriage house I received the violin quite quickly after we laced the order. The instrument wasn't the sound I was looking for so I called and was given my options and decided going down from Maine to Boston would be in my best interest. We drove down on Dec. 1st2018 A young lady by the name of Adrianne waited on us and was an awesome help! She took great care and time with me to make sure that I walked out with a violin that fitted my sound needs. Would highly recommend Johnson strings/carriage house for your instrument needs.
I ordered a set of strings that were at a good price and had free shipping. There was a delay in receiving the strings due to something with the USPS, but this was totally unrelated to Johnson String. I would have received the strings rather quickly if the USPS had not screwed up. I definitely will try Johnson String again.
I ordered a wolf tone eliminator, but the delivery envelope arrived empty as the eliminator had burst through the envelop. I notified Johnson Stribgs of the problem, and the had a wolf tone eliminator to me next day.
The violin tape is not the same tape pictured on the violin on the webpage. It is not even violin tape! The width is only 3/32 of an inch... certainly too small to be suitable on a violin fingerboard. The tape is actually graphic tape.
New Coda Bow came well packaged/protected in 7 days from NY to CA. The Coda Bow Prodigy is just what we were hoping for for our intermediate cellist. I ordered here because they are authorized dealers of Coda Bows and warranty is upheld. The Bow comes with info to register your new bow with Coda Bow direct.
The delivery and shopping experience was very smooth. I didn't actually like the string I bought but that is mostly chance - it's always a risk trying something new!
Answer: Southwest Strings and Johnson String Instruments share some products and sometimes have different prices for the same product. Southwest Strings does have a smaller selection, but they have free shipping on everything.

Hi Stephen,
Which string set did you purchase? Most have the option to choose loop end E or ball end E and it seems like you chose the loop end. If you need the ball end, feel free to exchange it by calling 1.800.359.9351. Thanks!
