ID.me simplifies how individuals prove and share their identity online. The ID.me secure digital identity network has over 98 million members, as well as partnerships with 30 states, 10 federal agencies, and over 500 name-brand retailers.
The company provides identity proofing, authentication and community verification for organizations across sectors. The company's technology meets the federal standards for consumer authentication and is approved as a NIST 800-63-3 IAL2 / AAL2 conformant credential service provider by the Kantara Initiative. ID.me's Identity Gateway also has a Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) Moderate Authority to Operate (ATO). ID.me is the only provider with video chat and is committed to "No Identity Left Behind" to enable all people to have a secure digital identity.
The company has garnered a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in its identity verification service, which many users found secure and efficient, particularly praising the helpfulness of customer service during video calls. However, significant concerns were raised regarding the complexity of the verification process, which some customers found frustrating and time-consuming, particularly older users or those with unique identification issues. Additionally, delays and technical difficulties, including issues with document acceptance and login credentials, have led to dissatisfaction among several users. Overall, while the service is valued for its security, improvements in user experience and support are essential.

I was trying to log in to the IRS website, but my account had been disabled because of this new sign in requirement, ID.Me.
I researched it briefly because I had never heard of it, and thought I might be getting hacked. After finding several articles, and looking at the website, I saw it was legit and created an account.
I was easily able to log into the IRS website.
The driver license photo and face scan was a little intimidating, but the directions were pretty simple. I made a mistake on the first photo, but was easily able to go back and try again. The face scan clearly informed me if I was too far away, or too close and gave you a couple seconds to tell you the scan would start so you would be ready.
I'm anxious to see how easy this will be for signing into other gov websites.
The lady was respectful, secure and fast. I have no issues at all.
Was very easy to use and was easy to understand would recommend to everyone
Very nice, good communication with IDme and with the IRS individual. So a good thing for us Americans.
Quick and simple to join-easy questions to answer and fill out.
You guys you are very professionals after verifying my case I notice something about you very professional
It had steps, but very clear how to do each
Step. Easy to read instructions with good visuals. The steps allows for security. I was impressed. Often security steps in other online APs are frustrating-ID was through and straightforward.
It took me two days of repeated tries as I attempted to take CLEAR photos of my driver's license. At one point I dug out my passport but one look at all the fine print & colors made me return to the license. If I could read all the fine print, why couldn't the AI do so?! Extremely frustrating— but I wanted my tax refund so I kept at it.
I learned a lot about my cell phone in attempting to get the license photos (front & back) registered and saved, then I learned that getting a selfie with the company's great modern equipment, was a horror show for me--my selfies (after a 2-mo bout with Covid, loss of hair, and wrinkling of skin), were attempted a dozen times and rejected as not matching my license photo. The required intervention of a live person (yes!) did the trick but was still not a 1-2-3. For those who still look like their license photos and are fluent in cell phone features, this should be a breeze.
We've been adding user Id's, email addresses, and passwords for years. The additional steps of uploading photo IDs, more than one, is overkill. I literally spent hours on the task of getting an ID.me before I relented and went to the video method (which was not encouraged on the how-to screen). I had given up one previous time, a few years ago, and foolishly thought it must be easier now. Nope. For anyone who will have limited use for getting to a federal site, ID.me is not worth the trouble.

Once you understand the requests it's easy yo use
Only draw back black & white is a better option
Spent 1 hour trying to sign in to my account, after being redirected to at least 3 different sites to verify my authenticity and IMPROVE the security of the process only to finally reach a message that my sign in had had an ERROR in the system and to try again later! Not going to happen, all I wanted to do is refill some prescriptions, finally used the old method of calling in my refills that took 5 minutes. Internet has potential to improve things but in the hands of the Government and the VA the vet is forgotten as the user, most are not tech savvy and this is forgotten by the contractors and the selection of contractors. The end user is forgotten and ignored! VA app and sites must be user friendly and intuitive.!
