I signed up for ID. Me about a year ago... I had lost my social security card and I desperately needed an original copy for the job I was interviewing for. Now, last week when I go to file my taxes everything is good and fine and when the lady went to send it off they would not accept it because apparently someone had stolen my social security number! To the tax lady told me what I needed to do about retrieving a personal identification number, but I had already had an account so as soon as I logged on it welcomed me and I only had to push two buttons to get to the area that I needed to get to and right there was my ID number and now my taxes are sent off and I couldn't be happier! Come to find out in the area that I'm in, there are 46 females with my exact same name that's crazy thank God for that number!

1) My name changed. ID. Me was not informed of this even though the SSA was. If the SSA will not provide that name change to ID. Me, I have to wonder why. 2) When you are logging in to SSA, they offer login options (I now use Login. Gov). If you select ID. Me you will be clearly warned you are LEAVING the SSA website, control, and responsibilities. This does not bode well. 3) When dealing with Government in the US, ". Gov" top level domains can only be purchased by government entities. Thus being on a ". Gov" site has a certain reassurance to it. For instance, when searching for your local DMV, you will likely find several ". Com" and other sites. They are NOT your government and will often charge extra fees you don't need to pay. But if the site ends in ". Gov" it is expected to at least be a government website.
I was able to login initially to kick off the verification process. I successfully uploaded my photo ID and my "selfie" but when I went back to the original browser, I got a message that "something went wrong" and now I'm unable to login to the ID. Me site to try again.
