It will do what it's supposed to as long as the IRS has Current Contact Information on you. In most people's cases they have 10 year old phone #'s on file making the 2 step verification near impossible until you get ahold of the IRS (Never fast nor Simple) and Update them with Current contact info for yourself. Which is an ordeal in itself.

Very difficult if you're a stroke survivor.I read qestion but trying to handle DL front and back dropped twice then license had a glare getting it ro come thru with no glare and too far away. Close enough or farther away...
Waste of time adding a layer the apparently does nothing to help the user. I am a veteran and a retired IT career of 38 years. Thi is the poorest design when all it does is direct you the the same interface we had before. I dub it ID.me is a waste of time.
It took two tries and about 2 hours to complete the process. One of the most frustrating was pictures of Id were not accepted. There was no reason why we needed to retake some or why the final picture was accepted. Directions were not clear to me that a scanned copy and the physical copy of the documents were needed.
It was to much trouble trying to sign in. After I finally got signed in it would not let me order refills on my medication, I've got to call pharmacy.
My personal information was stolen by someone who I know. They used me as a dependent on their tax refund like they were taking care of me wich is 100% false. I just wanna thank id.me for getting to the bottom of it. This situation really could have messed my life up but the situation was all handled quickly and professionally, I was impressed thank u all once again.
