My husband always did our taxes and I just always signed my name. He passed away in April 2024 so I had to learn to do them. This being my first year, I contacted an accountant. She needed last years return and I had no hard copies or even access to the cite my husband used so I started crying. How am I going to do this? I depended SO much on my husband for everything. The accountant gave me this link to set up the ID.me account and I was able to get to all the information I needed and get it to her within the hour. She even thanked me for getting everything I needed so quickly.
Had to use it for a government agency and while I felt uncomfortable because it required key documents with personal information after checking, reviewing and trying to find how scam-able it might be, it seemed authentic and ultimately was impressed at how thorough, and security oriented it turned out to be. Just be ready, if you were glasses to take them off and possible encounter frustration going through, be patient. Once through access was instantaneous and that was great.
Easy to set up. Instructions to enter self information and take selfie for photo are easy to follow. Verification of identity by way of texted number on my telephone number is a safe way to avoid fraud where fraudsters have no way of stealing personal information.
Every gov agency requires a id.me account. But you have to waste time setting it up for each agency! Total waste of time and money.
My first time ever to apply for unemployment and it was nerve wrecking. When I went to office to apply for unemployment, they took the people from my company that were there all to a classroom with only two helpers. I was there an hour and a half.

I applied for an account with IRS.gov and they had a unique ID verification process. Especially the selfie part.
I was very unsure what to do and I didn't feel there was enough explanation on the website to make me confident. I found an article elsewhere describing the process and that was most helpful.
I wanted to find a way to safely transfer funds electronically to the IRS because mailed payments postmarked prior to the due date are now either late or not timely opened. This is my first attempt so we will see how it goes.

The MFA procedure is ridiculous if you are not technically inclined. The only positive experience I had was with the Video Call Agent.

It began when ID.me’s CEO and founder Blake Hall, a decorated Army Ranger, watched a military veteran display their DD214 separation paperwork to a store employee to claim a military discount. The document held far more information than was needed to verify military service. Exposing so much personal information for a single benefit was risky and unnecessary. There had to be a better way.
We set out with the mission to make community verification easier and more secure. We began with the military community, but quickly grew to include students, teachers, nurses, first responders, and government employees.
We built partnerships with hundreds of retailers and expanded into regulated sectors like government, healthcare, and financial services with legal identity verification for high-risk transactions.
