It was fairly fast and effective it didn't take long before I could access DOL and finish application.
When I was going to Login to a state/federal agency apparently I had joined ID me And it came up as an option to Login. It did make it much easier than having to remember or look up a password But I find what's easiest is if I can use Face ID. I'm not really sure which one is safer, but I do worry about hackers and stealing my information.

I was led to believe that ID.me was a required to access my social security account. It is not. I would not have gone through the multistep process if I had known this. The introduction to this system should be provided in great detail to all prior to signing people up in the system. Is it mandatory? NO? Then provide this in all introductory information - "You do not have to use the ID.me process" prior walking you through the process.
Great experience. The VA Tech who helped me from the My Healthy Vet office squared me away quickly and efficiently.
I AM NOT computer literate, therefore, I could NOT successfully deal with this process.
HOWEVER, I know if I came to this site with the expected capabilities, completing the form would have been doable. People who lack basic on-line skills MUST be providing alternate ways to successfully complete online tasks.

It began when ID.me’s CEO and founder Blake Hall, a decorated Army Ranger, watched a military veteran display their DD214 separation paperwork to a store employee to claim a military discount. The document held far more information than was needed to verify military service. Exposing so much personal information for a single benefit was risky and unnecessary. There had to be a better way.
We set out with the mission to make community verification easier and more secure. We began with the military community, but quickly grew to include students, teachers, nurses, first responders, and government employees.
We built partnerships with hundreds of retailers and expanded into regulated sectors like government, healthcare, and financial services with legal identity verification for high-risk transactions.
