I have used HR block on and off for several years. I have used them online and as a walk in client. I can tell you they definitely are not free but they are cheap. It cost me under $100 every time I walked in and it took about 30 minutes. They do a great job of keeping your files and they do seem to ask better questions than I would have thought of on my own. Very worth it for me for the peace of mind knowing my taxes have been properly filed.

I prepared tax return by april 7 and it was submitted to tax pro Ann WILLIAMSON. She did nothing...we are May 5. Customer support wait time was over an hour the days before the filing deadline...i still have a hard time getting a refund or the tax pro review done..
Software kept using the wrong IRA deduction worksheet, despite having called customer service and "clearing the cookies and cache" as they told me. (Note that it's insane the accuracy of your taxes could depend on such a thing). They informed me that I'd get a call back to solve this issue. Call never came after two weeks. Finally I called again and they gave me a key code for "Tax Pro Review." Well, this is not a CPA. The "tax pro" is a tax analyst with minimal training in tax prep. After she returned it the THIRD time, still with errors, I politely informed her that I was going with another company, and requested a refund from HRB customer service, which they gave me. This company is good at making you feel like a small nothing in the machinery of big corporate bureaucracy.
I have been waiting to file my taxes because I'm being told they don't have a form (8915-f) ready for e-file because irs has not released that form yet but the irs has released it and it can be filed on taxslayer. I'm a little upset that this form isn't ready knowing that tax season was coming and they have more than just me needing this form. I have been a customer for several years now but makes me rethink and just want to do my own.
After failing to do my taxes correctly and having them auto rejected from the irs. They then lie to me for months about not being able to see the taxes that have been filed. Then refuse to help resolve this issue and finally refused to give money back after failing to provide the service that I paid for.
I was a premium customer who always filed physically in their New York location. One year, though I provided all the info to my accountant and paid in time they forgot to submit the taxes. I was heavily charged for late filing by IRS. They promised to pay it…it has been a year and a half since, hundreds of email calls and open cases, and they don't give a …. I wouldn't get close to them if I were you, since they know how to charge but not how to take responsibility for an issue, even if it was caused by them.
II filed my taxes with HR block almost a year ago. I was owed a refund of over 1,000$. The IRS never contacted me and I have called them several times with a different excuse or explanation each time. I have sought help from HR block and they were not any help at all. This year I will pay turbo tax to file my taxes.
Arnold only wanted to file a simple return and did not care how much I had to pay because of his incompetence. I called him and he stated he would not change my return even though he knew I had other deductions. When asked why? The only answer I got to any questions was I DON'T KNOW. He finally said he had no time to help me and hung up the phone on me. This is the worst case of incompetence. Will never use this rude person or The blockheads at H&R Block ever
Absolutely horrible customer service. Don't even try, or waste your time trying call H & R Block customer service. The customer service reps were rude, disrespectful, and don't care about resolving your issue, they will just pass you on to another customer service rep, or put you on hold for 30 minutes to an hour. Do yourself a favor, and do your taxes with any company besides H&R Block.
This company's support is laughable and embarrassing! Paid the extra to have live help online, no access to help. Tried to contact after, no help and no refund. Their own link to "provide feedback" doesn't work because they know their service is trash. Scam business for something you can do for free on your own.
Not to mention I never received my tax refund from last year after using their service.
Why is it every yr. You go to them to file your taxes the price goes up and up! Its a computor program all they do it put the info. In theres no figuring no anything the computor does it for them! And i paid over $100- more than last year! Its disgusting! Not going there anymore!
First a hard pull that stays 2 years regardless if you did it the last year. Second I don't believe they ever give over a couple hundred because I have good credit. Third even though they hold the first payment you have to get on the website and transfer it. This isn't a easy task actually! Don't do it!
They charged me$ 304.00 for 20 minutes work. Would not recommend to anyone. Price gouging for sure. Always ask for an estimate before you start. I do not know how they get any repeat business. I would have given them 1/2 star if I could.
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. TERRIBLE PHONE SERVICE - Wastes valuable time unnecessarily. Almost impossible to get a real person at the Baden PA office. Stupid menu and repeititive mumbo jumbo not needed. No way to contact my tax preparer directly or via email. I will NEVER use their services again for this reason. Totally unacceptable in this day and age. They operate in the Dark Ages there.
File with them every year but no more. They held back the remainder of our child tax credit and when we called to find out why they said they had to charge us to answer the question or we could come in and have them done for around $400. We did them through TurboTax with ease and got our proper refund.
Awful interface, good luck getting any help from anyone other than the useless virtual assistant. Despite using them for the past 6 years (because of the convenience of having my info carried forward), they absolutely screwed me this year & there is no way to reach a fkng human to straighten this out. Just did an amended return and can't even print it because every page has the "Client Copy Do Not File" on it. Horrible, frustrating experience. I hope this company fails miserably.
They made a mistake on my taxes and I had to pay back almost $1500.00 from 2021. I was charged interest also. I went to H&R Block to show them their error and I was to have been reimbursed at least for the interest. Well 3 months later and at least 20 calls (no exaggeration) and 4 case numbers - still nothing. Their service is unbearable - total incompetence and the gentleman in the Flatbush Avenue location totally has ignored me and just checked out. Never even responded to emails. This whole thing has been so unprofessional - believe me if you ever need them there is no accountability, no reliability and no caring about the customer. Horribly run business! Use someone else...
Horrible product. They hire people off the street in the offices and the online tax products do not work. If your taxes say filed, the Indian customer service line have no idea why it never went through to the IRS. IRS is working on tax software. File your own taxes and save the time and money.
This is my second year coming to H & R block and my last! I have a small 2 employee business making less than $70,000 a year. These scammers literally harass you into paying the $500 to file taxes. Are you serious? 28th Street location Grand rapids
Last year when I used them. I was charged 563.95 i thought what was a lot plus the person said she would give me the $25.00 discount, but never added it in, thanks to her i may never go back to H & R Block. All the reviews here are not good to see, were are all the none greedy H & R people at?
Answer: Used to be legit. Does not feel like they value customers anymore.
