The company has established a reputation for providing a user-friendly online auction platform, with many customers appreciating the ease of bidding and tracking items. Positive feedback highlights the quality of products and efficient transaction processes. However, significant concerns arise regarding website performance, excessive shipping charges, and insufficient customer support, particularly in resolving issues related to missing items and unclear invoicing. Overall, while the platform is favored for its convenience and product variety, improvements in customer service responsiveness and transparency in seller charges are necessary to enhance the overall customer experience.

I was bidding on a truck and it told me that I was not accepted even though I bid above and it wouldn't let me and then I just told me that I bid the minimum amount. I'm not sure if it was my error or theirs anyway other than that platform is good to use.
DO NOT place max bids. I have previously only used eBay as an auction site where sellers cannot see max bids. HiBids allows auctioneers to see your max bid which allows them to bid right up to your max bid with alternate accounts so they can squeeze you for every penny they can. HiBids customer support does not investigate these issues, they contact the auctioneer and ask them if they did. Shady business. Still deals to be had, but be wary.
I bid on a SET of 4 scaffold planks my receipt read set of 4, items 4 when I picked up my items I received 1 plank and they said it was bid as 1. It was not bid as 1 and I have the receipt and a pic of the bid ad to prove they ripped me off. Bad business, do not bid on items from iowa surplus auctions!
I have bid and won on multiple auctions for over a year now. Pretty much furnished my entire home from estate auctions off hibid. I've been able to find Pretty much everything I've been looking for whether it's home furnishings, tools, clothes, trinkets, antiques, or automotive related. Over dozens and dozens of auctions I've only had one mishap and that was only with that one auction company personally. Overall an awesome format with great, honest people, and great deals. 5 stars.
To me an auction means that when the gravel goes down, the auction is over. The gravel goes down at a certain time and nothing changes at. I hate the way this works with if there is active bidding going on they keep it open. Who has time to sit there And keep bidding. This is not the way an auction should be running in my opinion.
Everything was easy as far as the bidding. The payment option was a little bit more difficult and would not really detail on a mobile device
This is not my first time bidding on a HiBid auction, however it was my first time with this Auction house. Their instructions and terms were clear and when I arrived to pick up my items, the people were nice and all of my small items were already boxed together and ready for a quick pickup. Will definitely keep them as a favorite to watch for needed and wanted items in the future.
My experience with this site has been very frustrating. The seller never replied to my message, and I couldn't even track the communication history after sending them. I even tried to retract my bid and was willing to pay a reasonable cancellation fee, but received absolutely no response from the seller. In the end, I proceeded with the purchase only to find out I'm being charged over 50% in fees — which is absurd. While I take responsibility for not catching all the fine print, the lack of transparency and complete absence of communication is unacceptable. This whole experience has left me speechless, and I won't be using this platform again.
Hi David,
We’re sorry to hear about your experience—it’s understandable that this situation would be frustrating. Each auction on HiBid is managed individually by the seller, including communication and fees, which are outlined in the auction’s Terms & Conditions.
If you’ve already reached out to the seller regarding this situation, you can also visit help.hibid.com
and start a chat by selecting the icon in the bottom right corner. Then choose “Concern with a Purchase.” This will allow you to submit the details to our support team for documentation, and we’ll try contacting the seller on your behalf.
We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback, and we hope your next auction experience is a better one.

I've found that HiBid is another place to search for good deals. Once you open the catalog on an auction, you can sort the items from low to high, looking for those deal items that other's haven't found yet. Note that each auction does have different markup premiums, shipping and pick up terms, and sometimes do include fees for using a credit card.
Hi Sharlene,
Thank you for the thoughtful review! We’re glad to hear you’ve found HiBid to be a great place to discover deals—sorting the catalog low to high is a smart strategy many bidders love.
We appreciate you noting that auction terms such as premiums, shipping, and payment fees can vary by seller. Each auction includes a full Terms & Conditions section so bidders can review details before placing a bid.
Thanks again for choosing HiBid—we hope you continue finding great deals!

What a great auction. Some real great buys. The staff is super friendly and well organized. I picked up the items next day without issues. Highly recommend. I also love HighBid.
Hi Dan,
Thanks so much for the 5-star review! We’re glad to hear you had such a great experience with the Springwood Farms auction and that pickup was smooth and well-organized. It’s awesome to know you found some great buys and enjoy using HiBid as your bidding platform.
We appreciate your recommendation and are happy to have you as part of the HiBid community—happy bidding!

The ability to search for hidden gems nationally and in some cases internationally has been awesome. I have won a few auctions from Canada, and all over the USA. I am not real happy with the shipping and handling fees though and there should be a way of rating auction houses for their cooperation with retrieving your items you won. I had some items that were not breakable and could simply be put into an envelope and the shipping and handling was double my bid price. I have a had about 70% over charge, 30% fair.
HiBid gives every auction house the ability to hide details in multiple drop down menus that have to be searched through while bidding. It's an absolute pain in the___! Imagine if Amazon allowed every seller on Amazon to act that way. The great thing about consistency is people can bid more often and last minute without worrying. The current system allows auction house to hide in the fine print all the "Gotcha's" they want. 20% listing surcharge, 5% credit card use surcharge, 4% pickup in person surcharge, 15% shipping surcharge, and on and on. HiBid does not let bidders leave reviews of the auction houses that list on HiBid nor make complaint filing simple. I have had to contest charges on my credit card multiple times. Bid on something at the wrong auction house and you WILL be ripped off. Auction Houses list items as "New" when any employee with eyes can see that the drill bits, lawn mower, or whatever they are listing, has been used and is worn out. HiBid doesn't give a rip that customers are getting ripped off. There are no rules on HiBid. Imagine if Amazon didn't allow business or product reviews of sellers on their web site. HiBid's current rules and procedures make this the Wild West of bidding. I have learned to never bid more than 15% - 20% of the retail value of the item and be prepared for the item to be complete junk when I pick it up. This is general information and is not related to the last auction I bid on. Imagine how successful HiBid could become if they got rid of all the dirtball auction houses!
Hi Eric,
Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We understand your concerns, and we’re sorry to hear that some of your experiences with certain auction houses have been frustrating.
To clarify, HiBid is a platform that connects bidders with independent auction companies, and each seller sets their own terms, fees, and item descriptions. That said, we agree that transparency is key. This is why each auction includes clearly posted Terms & Conditions, including buyer’s premiums, payment methods, pickup and shipping policies, and any additional surcharges—so bidders can review all details before placing a bid.
That said, we recognize how important consistency and trust are in the bidding process, and feedback like yours helps us continue evaluating how we can improve overall user experience. We also encourage bidders to contact the auction company directly with any questions before bidding, and to report any serious concerns through our support team so we can review them appropriately.
We appreciate you taking the time to outline your perspective, and we’re glad you’ve continued to find value in bidding within a careful range. Your input is noted and will be shared with our internal teams as we work toward improving clarity and bidder confidence across the platform.
Thank you again for being part of the HiBid community.

I was enjoying bidding on certain items, but after the item closed, I wasn't sure where to go to see if I won and/or pay. How do I know if I won the bids
Hi Scott,
Thanks for the review and for bidding with HiBid! After an auction closes, winning bidders typically receive an invoice directly from the auction company with payment and pickup or shipping details.
If you’re unsure whether you won or didn’t receive an invoice, you can contact the auction company listed on the auction page—their contact info is always included there and they’ll be able to confirm your status.
We appreciate the feedback and hope your next auction experience is even smoother!

I would say I follow and bid on my iPhone 80-90% of the time. The HiBid App was perfect, reliable, quick to log in (remembered by password), and very easy to use. Now I need to google HiBid, and if I don't remember my password, I'm locked out. Had to change HiBid passwords so often that I forget what is current. So I tried to bid the other night and was locked out. It is a real pain to try to scramble to bid, when it used to be so easy. Now I see if the same items are on the Live Auctioneers or Invaluable sites and bid there. Eliminating the App made the auction process cumbersome, annoying and I now view HiBid as a 2nd or 3rd rate mediocre auction site. Why did you have to eliminate the APP? Now you are no better than Proxibid or Auction zip, who also dropped their Apps. I'm sure you are losing bidders and profits, and the auction houses are losing bids and value too. Please bring it back.
Hi David,
Thank you for sharing your feedback—we understand how frustrating this change has felt, especially when you were used to the app experience. Many bidders prefer to browse and bid from their phones, and we appreciate you taking the time to explain how this impacted your experience.
While the HiBid app is no longer available, you can still bid quickly and securely on your iPhone by using the mobile web browser version of HiBid. It’s designed to remember your login (if saved to your device) and provides full access to live catalogs, bidding, watch lists, and more—without needing a separate app.
Your feedback is important, and we’ve shared your comments with our team as we continue improving the mobile experience. We truly appreciate that you’ve been a regular bidder, and we hope you’ll give the mobile web version a try for a smoother experience moving forward.
Thank you again for your honesty and for being part of the HiBid community.

I love Hibid but omg the map. Consistently when you zoom in to my area, Toledo OH, it 100% of the time jumps to Indiana. It's awful. Also, the app frequently glitches and it causes the item you are bidding on to jump and the bid now goes to the item above or below the desired lot. I've had lots of people say this including 3 auction houses say they hear it too. It would also be nice if the auction houses were required to put measurements or working condition of items. I've bought things and had it be a total waste of money because no one tests. It has caused me to avoid certain companies.
Hi Betty,
We really appreciate you taking the time to share such detailed feedback. It’s great to hear you enjoy using HiBid, and we understand your frustration with the map and page glitches — that’s helpful insight for our team.
We also appreciate your note about listing details like measurements and condition. Each auction company manages its own item descriptions, but feedback like yours helps highlight where consistency can improve.
Thanks again for being part of the HiBid community — we’re glad to have you bidding with us.
Happy bidding,
— The HiBid Team
1. Why did you take the display of count of items in a category off, I found that helpful.
2. Maybe it's just the way I use it, but when I click on a category, then click on a sub category and then view a few items, I go back and sometimes the category I was looking at disappears from the menu on the left. I have to leave the site completely to reset. This is extremely frustrating
3. Give more sort options. For example I like to look at auctions within 50 miles of my zipcode. I can only sort these by distance and best match. How about start date or/or end date or by Auction Co. There are several companies that focus on stuff I have in interest in, be great to sort them out! 4. What happened to the App? That was easy to use!
Hi David,
We really appreciate your detailed feedback — it’s always helpful hearing from bidders who use the site often. The points you mentioned about category counts, sorting options, and navigation are all great insights for our team as we continue improving the site experience.
Regarding the app, bidding is now supported directly through the mobile browser, which offers the same features without requiring a separate download.
Thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts — feedback like yours helps shape future updates.
Happy bidding,
— The HiBid Team
The bidding process is simple and user friendly. The need for setting an appointment, however, to pick up only one or two small items is very inconvenient and can be discouraging. I would completely agree that appointments for larger items such as furniture and appliances should be required but to have to set a time to pick small items like a frying pan or pair of sunglasses is somewhat ridiculous. The retail prices that are listed are at times incorrect and can be somewhat inflated [sometimes more then double what the item is actually selling for on Amazon or elsewhere]. Which can lead to bidding more then the actual retail price for a new item after factoring in the 15%+ auction fees, $1+ handling fee and 13% sales taxes. I would still recommend using the auction sites but one has to properly research the products listed and know what the true monetary cost of placing the 'winning' bid[s] would be.
Hi George,
Thank you for the detailed 4-star review—we’re glad to hear you find the bidding process simple and user-friendly, and we appreciate your perspective on what makes a successful auction experience.
We understand your point about pickup appointments, especially for smaller items. Since each auction company manages its own pickup process, some do require appointments for all items to help them coordinate staff and logistics. That said, we recognize how this may feel inconvenient in cases where only one or two small purchases are involved. Feedback like yours is valuable for helping sellers understand bidder preferences.
Regarding retail prices, those are also entered by the auction house, and we always encourage bidders to research items—as you’ve mentioned—so they can make informed decisions when factoring in premiums, handling fees, and taxes.
We appreciate your balanced recommendation and your emphasis on smart bidding. Thank you for being part of the HiBid community, and we hope your next auction experience is a rewarding one.
—The HiBid Team
The bidding process is straightforward and convenient but the various additional fees (service charge, credit card charge and the 15-16% auction fee is rather excessive). The end price can often be very close to the retail price of the product.
The description on the items and picture was not correct and when I went to pick up the items part of the purchase described were not there and other items in the picture were not included. Don't pay much for it but it was bad experience.
Hi Neil,
Thank you for sharing your experience—we’re sorry to hear that the item description and photo did not match what was available at pickup. That’s understandably frustrating and not the kind of experience bidders should have.
Since auction listings, descriptions, and included items are managed by the individual auction companies, we recommend contacting the seller directly to report any missing or inaccurately described items. Their contact information can be found on the auction listing page, and they should be able to address the issue or provide clarification.
We appreciate your feedback, as it helps reinforce the importance of accurate listings and transparency across the platform. Thank you for being part of the HiBid community, and we hope your next auction experience is a better one.

When I bid and am outbid immediately that tells me a person is not bidding on the item. I think it's cheating. It makes it unfair. People don't stand a chance. I think bots should not be allowed.
Hi Deloris,
Thank you for sharing your feedback—we understand how it can feel frustrating to be instantly outbid. What you’re seeing is actually HiBid’s max bid feature, not bots or unfair activity. It allows bidders to set their maximum bid in advance, and the system automatically increases their bid only as needed to stay in the lead—similar to how proxy bidding works at traditional auctions.
This feature helps keep bidding fair and efficient, ensuring everyone has an equal opportunity to win within their chosen limit.
We appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective, and we hope your next auction experience feels more enjoyable and transparent.
—The HiBid Team
I always love participating in your auctions. Auction was 10/2/25 and pick up day was 10/4/25. Grey Dog Auctions had my lots boxed well and ready to go when I got there.
Hi Linda,
Thank you for the 5-star review! We’re so glad to hear you enjoyed the auction and that Grey Dog Auctions made pickup easy with everything boxed and ready to go.
We appreciate you being part of the HiBid community—happy bidding!

Answer: Licensed auctioneer here- auction law is that if you give notice that you need to retract your bid before the hammer falls (or the auction ends online) that the auctioneer is required to retract the bid. Actual law also dictates that bidding must start over at opening bid, not the next highest bid.
Answer: Very easy. If you dont get someone immediately they do call back. But once again if you have a problem with items contact the auction house not hibid. Hibid doesn't auction they only provide the platform
Answer: Most auctioneer there are scammers, a thrift store would be better option.
Answer: YES! Confirmed by an auctioneer I know. Hibid auctioneers can see your "maximum bid" and in most states it's legal to "shill" an auction or to bid against the public bidders - to "ensure reasonable sale prices" per national auctioneers associations. Also, anyone can set up an identity and bid against you. Although that may get interesting when they have to pay a commission to "buy" their own item!
Answer: "Mechanically challenged" is often a term auctioneers use to indicate that an item might not be functioning properly. It usually means that the piece needs repairs, doesn't operate as intended, or may have some technical issues. It's best to reach out to the seller for a clearer explanation to avoid any surprises. By confirming the exact condition directly with them, you'll have a better understanding of what you're bidding on.
Answer: Yes, if you suspect any fraud, please contact HiBid directly at 844-775-4774. Our team is here to assist you and ensure a safe and secure experience.
Answer: Some auctioneers require credit card verification as part of the bidder registration process. This process involves a temporary authorization charge of $1.00 to ensure the card is valid. In some cases, additional processing fees or taxes might cause the amount to appear slightly higher, such as $1.46. Please rest assured that this is not an actual charge but rather a temporary hold that will be released by your card issuer. Typically, these holds clear within 5-7 business days, depending on your financial institution. If the charge doesn't disappear after this time, we recommend contacting your credit card provider for further assistance.
Answer: Thank you for reaching out regarding your bidder rating and the reasons behind it. Bidder ratings on HiBid are determined by various factors, such as your bidding activity and whether you've been permanently approved or declined by auction companies in the past. Unfortunately, HiBid support and bidders themselves cannot view or access these ratings or the specific reasons behind them, as this information is exclusively available to auctioneers. The best way to gain insight is to contact an auctioneer you have a good relationship with or one whose auctions you'd like to participate in. They may be able to provide some clarity or work with you to address any concerns.
Answer: Thank you for reaching out! We understand how it can be confusing when an item is removed before an auction ends, but please rest assured it's not a scam. Sometimes auctioneers encounter unforeseen issues and may need to cancel or relist items. Keep in mind that auctioneers often work with consignors to ensure items are sold fairly, which can involve reserve prices or other considerations that may or may not be visible on specific listings. We recommend reaching out to the auctioneer directly for more details. If you have any difficulty reaching them, we're here to help facilitate communication.
Answer: Yes, HiBid regularly features a wide selection of motorcycles available for auction.
Hi Kimberly,
Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! We’re thrilled to hear your experience was smooth from start to finish and that pickup was quick and easy. It’s great to know you found a new favorite auction house through HiBid—we appreciate you sharing your feedback!
