“Excellent service”

First thing, the Monmouth junction, NJ store the employees always great you like an old friend. Had some confusion over a coupon and the manager Mikki went over and above to get it resolved. Everyone is s helpful, kind and nice. All other retail establishments should emulate them. Insider track purchase pays itself over after a few visits; would definitely recommend this.

Top Critical Review

“Extended Warranty Return”

An absolute joke. They try and give you so much crap at filling out warranty stuff that you enter over and over and the format is very poor for a company like HF. I will never purchase anything that I need an extended warranty for from this place. Time is precious and you shouldn't have to deal with this. Look at the review rating. It should tell you something is wrong. Oh and it says thanks for being a loyal customer. Wow...

Harbor Freight sends out ads that say "30% off entire store - no exclusions". Then when you read the small print, it's not the entire store. It excludes anything over $19.99 and limited to one item. They must think that everyone is a fool. The marketing words are a lie and they don't care. I'm guessing that it gets people in the store one time. The most you could save is under $6.

Tip for consumers:
Harbor Freight is mainly items from China. Anything metal tends to be soft and anything electrical scares me a little.

Products used:
Tool chest and ratchet straps

I'm going to start by saying - I probably go to Harbor Freight 20-25 times a year. Unfortunately I've learned over the years that you don't buy anything that moves whether it's wheels or motors, or anything that's adjustable. They wear or break prematurely, and without hours of fruitless searching, the odds are easily 50 to 1 that you'll ever find a bearing, wheel, or replacement for any part that wears out before the rest of the item breaks.
It's great for things like gloves, sandpaper, tarps, wrench sets, wire ties, electrical shrink tubing, and even some cleaners (car wash soap, spray brake cleaner, disposable clamps, mostly inert merchandise that is single use.
The coupons are a joke. I get regular Emails with 25% off coupons for "any" one item. They have so many exclusions, that I was only able to use the last one for a pair of gardening gloves my wife asked me to get.
I still shop there, but it's basically like a Dollar Store. Don't buy anything you want to be able to use for any length of time.

Tip for consumers:
As I stated in my review. The coupons are a joke - or maybe it's an altered version of "Bait and Switch". Advertisement says any item, and then you try to use the coupon, and it more like a scavenger hunt to find something that's not excluded.

Products used:
Multiple items. I purchase a lot of throw away, or one use items from HF.
I have only rarely purchased anything mechanical, or electrical.

I go to Harbor Freight now and then for cheaper tools that would often save you a lot of money if it was for something to use at the house, the warranties never felt like gouging and sensible. Now they won't even cover their power tools for a full year, just 90 days. I spoke to an employee they say the warranty1-2year plan is based on a 10 or 20% additional cost. So the power tools now not only have a far worse box warranty than big brands, but it's also an additional cost that trends toward it being the same cost as a big brand which often have better warranties(example the tool I wanted I got at lowes which has a 5 year plan). Their power tools will sometimes not even have blades come with it, making you have to go and then spend more money on the equipment needed for the tool. Harbor Freight, used to also be generous with coupons as well, now they are more picky about it, they want you on their Credit card, and membership plan for the better deals now. I'll still go for the times I needed a tarp, tie downs, and what not because they are still ok deals. But this place is losing what made harbor freight the affordable hardware store.

Tip for consumers:
Do the math on warranty cost, membership cost, and additional costs the product might need in addition. You may end up spending more or the same as a well known brand with better warranty return policies.

Greetings Harbor Freight, out of curiosity why do you not support Military/ veterans like Home Depot and Lowes? 10% will not heart your bottom dollar, but it will increase traffic in your stores like it does in HD and Lowes with military families... this called business strategy. And the truth is: it will get the military personnel and family interested on visiting HF more often.

I ordered a Predator chipper 4/10/2020. Received same 4/30 box and mounting hardware open and missing items. Emailed service about missing items and they said there was nothing they could do about it. I could return it to a harbor freight store. I have sent a second email as the weight of this item makes it impossible for me to return.
After a couple emails customer service rep Rick understood my request and ordered the missing items. I have updated my original one star to three stars

This store has more sales than any other store on this planet! Constant emails, coupons and codes flood your inbox. Problem is the products are repeated over and over again with no end in site and they mislead you in thinking that it's a close out or clearance yet the products are a standard item in their stores.
Products are low quality, break easily, limited in their selection and really not worth buying with the exception of a few products.
Purchased their kitchen sink auger and it twisted so badly within 5 minutes of trying to unclog my sink that it was totally useless. Home depot was my next stop for a reliable one as the broken one had to be returned to the manufacture not the store for refund or an exchange I needed an auger right away, not in 3-4 weeks. A waste of time and money but a lesson learned. Buy from a store that backs their products.
I don't recommend Harbor Freight for purchasing your home tool needs unless you want to fill someones stocking up with tape measures, screw drivers, funnels and other small household essentials. These small items seem to last longer but thats
Probably because you won't use them much.
The staff are friendly and some are helpful and knowledgeable and they earn a higher score then the merchandise

Its Harbor Freight. Its the cheapest stuff coming out of China. They modestly mark it up and resell it. The website is OK and shipping is average. If your looking for cheap tools its the place you want to go. Just remember you get what you pay for. So if you want DeWalt, Milwaukee, or Bosch quality go somewhere else and pay for it. I've ordered numerous items and haven't been disappointed in the products I've received yet. I have yet to deal with customer services, so no comment on that yet.

Verified purchase

The Pittsburgh hand tools are quality hand tools. I wrenched for the better part of 50 years. I am a double master certified ASE technician and purchased Snap-On almost exclusively. Save your money and purchase Pittsburgh hand tools when possible.
You can usually find what you're looking for if you see it online at Harbor Freight.
The experience I've always had at Harbor Freight, is they are not very forthcoming in helping you find something. They are as bad as Home Depot.
The other thing is, they are as slow as molasses in February when it comes to checkout. OMG!
I grew a beard while I was waiting to check out.

I go for last minute needs, but really not the best quality supplies. If you're looking for professional tools, don't come here.

I like the new Blue professional grade drills. I got a set for Christmas and it is every bit as good as my milwaukee drills. I also have the sliding compound miter saw, professional model. It is fantastic. So, if you know what you are looking for, just buy the top of the line and you will be fine. I just bought the 16 speed heavy duty floor press model ******* and it is great, but be careful because they have the same suit that the model begins with a 3, but from what I read, this model is problematic. I gave mine a good run today and I am very pleased with it. Good luck

The tools sold at Harbor Freight are not the same quality that they compare their tools against. They are just trying to justify raising their prices. I understand the quality is lower than the major name brand but they don't need to raise their prices and say that the tools are compatible.

We don't go to Harbor Freight for good tools, we go there for one-time tools.

Generally poor quality - but a good exchange policy that you'll need almost immediately. The only HF tools I've had consistently good results with have been the hydraulic parts like a porta-power or bottle jack and the engine hoist.

Electrical tools? Yikes! They often do not pass the 60-second smoke test.

Machine tools? An axe works better for cheaper. Welding and plasma cutting? Buyer beware!

The pneumatic fittings and quick couplings should be branded 'Max-Hiss' for the leakage.

Bottom line: Use it once, throw it away and you'll rarely be disappointed with HF products!

Almost everything is poor quality, but they fill that niche - when you need a one time use item or, for me, extra tools too keep in the outbuildings & sheds. Since they are only occasionally used, I do not want to duplicate with the type of expensive tools I keep in the shop, so Harbor Freight tools fit the bill.
As many have said - expect to get what you pay for.
