The car was okay, my poor experience is because of false information given at time of pickup. When I arrived, the counter assistant told me for £34 I could have unlimited mileage and reduce the hold from £1200 to £200. I agreed to it, because why not - it would be cheaper than the potential 100 miles I was considering going over and while I wasn't worried about the hold, it would be nice. When the charge came at the end of pickup at the counter, it was £200 more than planned so I asked right then why the extra charge. The clerk told me because I hadn't prepaid for my rental and showed me the paperwork showing no payment.
My mistake was not immediately calling my credit card company. Expensive lesson learned.
It took a lengthy discussion with customer service after returning the vehicle to learn that it was not £34, it was £234 to upgrade to unlimited mileage and lower hold and that I had in fact prepaid for the rental.
It was a very upsetting and deceitful experience. And I'm out a lot of money because the counter clerk directly lied to me about the costs and fees I was incurring.
Car immediately available and super fast return. In and out customer service excellent. Shuttle van available immediately at airport and return.

My overall experience has been quite good apart from post rental. I returned the car in the same condition as received and was told by the collecting agent all was fine with the car. Over 3 weeks later I'm still waiting for my insurance refund £381. Any other car rental firm I've used return the deposit within 2 weeks.

Answer: DON'T do it. They advertise low and sting you at the counter! Clerks hard sell additional insurance (they get a commission). In Glasgow, Scotland this last August, they tried to get me to pay $800 in insurance to cover a ten day rental that was about $35 a day! Many people have posted about scams where they charged unsuspecting customers for "damages" that were already on the car but the customer may not notice, like a tiny chip in the windshield or a small scratch on the door edge.
Answer: Speeding/parking tickets and police action are slow. They keep the deposit until they are sure there will be no problems with any of those costs. (and yeah, would be speeding fine + massive green motion fee).

I can confirm that security deposits are automatically released by Green Motion on the last day of your rental after it has been established that the rental vehicle has been returned in the same condition as it was provided, and there are no further outstanding charges. Whilst in most cases this is available again within 10 working days, unfortunately, this can take up to 30 days depending on the bank that you use. We suggest that you contact your bank as they may be able to speed this process up for you. Green Motion's policy is to use pre-authorised transactions for our security deposits, which ring-fence the amount within your account, not charge it. This pre-authorised transaction will allow us to make charges if necessary at the end of the rental, but unless this occurs no money will leave your account. Due to the nature of this transaction, the release of these funds may not show on your bank statement as a separate transaction. If you believe that you have been charged your security deposit, please contact your bank and ask them to provide proof of the transaction as a charge on the first day of your rental so that we can look further into this for you. If this amount is still not available in your account after 30 days from the last day of your rental, please contact us at escalation@cs.greenmotion.com. Answer: I believe Green Motion are a perfectly fair and respectful company. I suspect you didn't read their Ts&Cs properly. The two customers being served while I was collecting my car had also not read/understood the conditions and were caught by surprise. The representative dealt with them firmly but fairly.
