This company may trade under several names, including SuperBookDeals, GreatBookPrices, and FarCorner. Their customer service is atrocious and their shipping is unnecessarily and unacceptably slow.
I purchased a book from GreatBookPrices on the Abebooks platform. The book was described as a "hardcover". I received a soft cover. GreatBookPrices refused to refund the shipping costs payoff the book to be returned to them.
Trying to return an unsuitable book since mid December no communications from them whatsoever unbelievably bad avoid. Abe should never be using them, avoid at all costs.
I purchased a book from greatbookpricesUK through Abebooks expecting the item to be posted from the UK! However, this was not the case one frustrating month of waiting later (so clearly not posted within the UK then!) the item arrived.
The item that arrived wasn't what I purchased or what was advertised to be for sale. After initiating a return to get a refund `I`m now expected to pay the return postage on the item in order to get a refund.
The name is completely misleading with the "UK" included i have contacted both gbpUK and Abebooks to rectify this situation both have been as useful as a chocolate kettle and I won't be purchasing anything more from either again.
Have to admit after I made my purchase and read these reviews my heart sank. Decided to give it time before opening a PayPal case review. To my delight I received quite prompt replies when I contacted them and it actually arrived in half the time quoted. Also, £2.80 P&P is cheap. So that's the good, but now the bad. It was listed as New but the copy I received had a small split in the spine and crease front and back. Whether this was due to inadequate packing I can't say but seriously, I'd have rather had the option to pay £1/2 more on decent packaging to ensure a £20 book arrived in the condition it was sent, rather than a single polythene covering that did very little to protect it. As this has been highlighted by others I'm really surprised you've not taken it onboard!
On abebooks I clicked "UK sellers only". Bought 2 books from this shower. Tracking 3 weeks later said one was in Illinois. Asked GreatBookPricesUK to confirm source of book and estimated delivery. 24 emails later I have never had an email that addressed my question. They auto-send you an email with no relevance to your question. 23 emails later I received two books, returned one, and got the refund, today. 7 weeks of unanswered emails. You send them a support question online: "I returned this book 2 weeks ago, here is the tracking proof of delivery, where is my refund?" and you get "We use a variety of carriers blah blah blah". Repeat endlessly. You never hear from a human. If you are crazy enough to ignore the reviews here, only buy using a credit card that will be obliged to refund you when things go irretrievably wrong.
Hardback heavy book sent in unprotected packaging meaning that it was severely damaged on arrival. Customer support pedantic and officious. Seems like a policy to get you to accept a low percentage refund. Then if you send the heavy book back to them for a full refund, they won't refund the full cost of sending it. Avoid at all costs. Hours of wasted effort and additional stress.
I give them a zero rating. I ordered a book from them and they sent me the wrong book,. Trying to get the right book has been time consuming and frustrating. I still have not received the book I paid for. They have no phone number and I will never buy from GBP's again.
Ordered through Abe.
They sent incorrect tracking information and didn't reply to queries (automated replies don't count).
Ordered 11 days ago and still not received.
Wish I'd checked the reviews before ordering.
I searched many sites looking for a specific book, which also has a very slim "study guide" published by the same author. I ignored all the study guide listings and bought from this company based on price. It arrived and guess what, it is the "study guide". After I reported this, i expected a refund. Instead, they told me that the book was delivered and so closed the inquiry. Of course it was delivered. But it was not the book i ordered. Then they responded that, oh yes, the book they delivered was what i ordered based on the ISBN. WHO CHECKS THE ISBN when the title clearly states the book name and author? After several back and forths, after they told me I could return the book for a refund on my dime, i realized i was dealing with a scammer and went to check the reviews. Sure enough. I am not even going to return it after reading the reviews that said they never got the return. How can amazon and ABE deal with these people?
Ordered through AbeBooks - which I have never had a problem with before. Slow comms, emails ignored. Fake Royal Mail tracking number was eventually provided. Patronising email eventually arrived in which delivery was promised by 3rd August. The post has been and there is still no book! Asked for a refund but was told I would have to wait. Appalling service. I will never knowingly buy from this shower again.
Purchased a book brand new, recived it completely damaged and they offered 15% refund not a exchange or full refund upon return. Want a quality new book. Don't buy here.
I bought a book from them via Abe's Books Online and when I told them USPS delievered to the wrong house they basically told me to go fly a kite! I even said if you refund me the money I will re order that book and again they were so rude saying they sent the book too bad. What awful service I will never buy from here again!
I found 2 books I wanted to buy, and tried to sign in to get an account, but had to wait ages to get a One Time Password (OTP) to authenticate my email address. When it eventually appeared in my inbox, it still didn't let me open an account so I have abandoned it.
Some kind of dodgy scam, loooking at positive reviews they all seem to come from china? Thinking that may be the origin of this dodgy bookshop
I ordered 3 books on Abebooks and the seller was greatbookprices. The tracking info email was sent to me on January 2nd and I received the package today. Missing 2 books! And the one I got has a page at the beginning saying it is a placeholder file and if I receive this book it is an error and to contact the publisher. I can not do that considering I bought the book second hand. THEN I look farther in the book.and it's not even in English! I can't even read the book! I contacted customer support at abebooks. Hoping I get a refund so I can use the money to go repurchase those 3 books from somewhere else.
I've made a few orders from this company. One thing you should know is that your order will take time to get to you (2-3 weeks), and may come in multiple packages if you're ordering multiple items from them at once. Could be a dropship company, I'm not sure. I've ordered from them on Abebooks. They never respond to my messages on that website, I'm not sure how they fare elsewhere. Maybe not the worst experience but they could definitely improve.
I bought the spawn compendium volume 2 from this company and after a few days of receiving no tracking information I sent a message to the seller asking about it but never got a response, 15 days later I still have no response, no tracking info and definitely no book. It is weird because I ordered two books from them shortly after my first order with them and I got tracking info for them in a timely manner and also received those books not too long after ordering so I have know idea what their deal is but what kind of seller does not respond to their customers? These experiences with this seller leads me to believe they are either a scam or extremely unreliable, please do not order from them because you are taking a risk if you do.
All three arrived badly damaged because of poor packaging. Items were shipped in a Tyvek envelope without any padding, with the first arriving in a fully opened envelope, a torn dust jacket, and literal footprints on it. The second set of books were shipped in a single envelope with no padding so they banged against each other during shipping and were also damaged by outside elements after the envelope tore.
Don't use these sellers. Go literally anywhere else if you care about the materials you receive.
Just saw a textbook advertised that goes for sale at around £140 RRP. "Greatbookprices" were selling this book for £260. This is a disservice to the community - quality science should not be unaffordable for people on lower incomes.
