I have never had a problem before today. I have ordered the same rods previously and they were free shipping. I then tried to put them on an order and it was charging some outrageous shipping charge for entire order. I split them off and the shipping was 1/3 the cost and free for the other because I was a member. This is very inconvenient. It should be free shipping as it was before.

I think the shipping charges are extremely high. I almost not worth ordering incidental item due to high shipping cost. Have you over a barrel because they are the only ones that carry drip torch parts.

You are correct in saying a lot has changed in the shipping world in the past 5 years. FedEx and UPS are moving to a dimension-based rating system, where in years past, their rates were solely based on actual weight. This is driving up the cost of shipping large or long items. On top of this, they are adding additional handling charges for anything that is over 48 inches in length. The tree shelters that you ordered are 6 feet long, which is why your order was expensive to ship. We have a complete human operation here at Forestry Suppliers Inc.
