I've been using ddg as an alternative to google on my laptop for the last 7 years.
Not that good for anything non US.
I'm in England and if i wanted to know about a premier league footballer that got injured yesterday, DDG will give me some outdated info from 4 years ago or info about USA footballers.
Also, when looking to buy things, even though i have selected uk search, 70% of search returns are for US companies.
DDG: probably good if you live in the US, otherwise, very time consuming to find what you're looking for...
Nice idea though...
Figured I'd give it a try - on my *FIRST* search, a Trojan ad popped up and tried to hold my browser hostage.
Too dangerous, it had to go. Unfortunate, because their advertising had me really interested.
I found out that DuckDuckGo used to set a tracking cookie, even though they claimed they didn't. (!) Back then, I used DuckDuckGo as my default search engine believing I was totally safe. Now I hate them more than Google, at least with Google you know what you're getting yourself into. You can read all about it here: https://archive.is/qntuk I would switch to secure search engines like ixquick, searx or Startpage.
Used duckduckgo since its inception.
Compared to MS, Google it has many advantages.
Worked with technology for 40 years and know the marketing meetings, large corporates undertake to hook the public.
For example before 3G worked all attention was made to ensure smart phones would be addictave... because mobile coverage was already saturated. The IT world is the most irresponsible and conceited one you will encounter. So every individual has to ensure they are not conned.
As a professional writer sometimes using the Internet for research, I find duckduckgo produces the most harmonious search outcome. You get a variety of results. There is no spinning of findings according to your past searches. If you enter an ambiguous term, it lists multiple definitions for your selection before completing its work. It is fast. It is definitely supportedbut not consumedby advertising. This is a preliminary review, but so far it earns *****.
If you originally have trouble finding what you are looking for with duckduckgo, you can improve your searching strategies and get pretty good at it... there are lots of options available in the advanced searching. However if you have little or no patience searching and don't care about your searches getting logged or not and being traceable in realtime, this probably is not a good search engine for you.
I am terribly disappointed in this company's decision to control search information by altering its algorithm to begin down ranking sources that promote Russian "misinformation." Users don't need DDG's "protection". Users can make their own informed decisions about the validity of the information a search produces. This is nothing more than DDG putting it's finger on the scale of their search results. This calls into question DDG's whole operation. With this type of Big Brother control, it especially casts doubt on DDG's claims of privacy for users. If users wanted a search engine with this type of limitation, They would have stayed with google. Go woke... go broke. Changed to Brave FDDG!
This is a great webpage, very easy to set up. Gives you free rain of what you want to search up a great web page overall and it does not give me ads, the ads are one big reason that I installed this browser. Thank you duckduckgo.
Browsing is fine but where is my history? Before the 'upgrade' I could access my 'recents' for a quick connection. They were easy to delete. Now I have to input the full search enquiry-a real time waster
There are companies which pay people to write reviews; that's a fact because I have an acquaintance who did it for some months. I can't think why genuine users would be having trouble uninstalling DDG. I've done it several times with no problem.
DDG has never taken over as default browser and works great with Firefox.
If you want a browser to take over your life and your computer and send you endless pop ups, adverts and unwanted emails and matter of all kinds, use Google. I don't get any of that with DDG.
You may not like the interface or shorter (relevant) responses to queries but if you are happy with a clear, direct, advert and spam free browser, I would recommend trying DDG
These are the only search options I get. I searched for Nutter Butter Wafer cookies with 5 stores near me I wanted to see pricing for and all they showed me was EBay. Would be nice to get privacy and variety.
One of the worst search engines for searching... doesn't know Queen's English, so it's worthless outside America. And seeing it's American it's as thick as present "President".
I have been kind giving it one star, very kind & very covfefe.
Search any of the 2020 democratic presidential contenders. You will notice that you only have to type the first name and at most three characters of the last name and the auto suggestions will show the persons name. All but one who is gay. Other search engines suggest his name with just his first name.
This search engined scammed me. Everything was completely fine with google, but then duck duck go hacked into my computer. After that, everything moved as slow as molasses. Then, to my horror, duck duck go somehow hacked into my instagram account, sending everybody I know inappropriate messages. Please get this garbage thing off my computer. It is impossible to get off and I'm so disgusted at this site. I could literally write a ten page paper on how much this site is a scam, but I literally have to fix the mess they've created
Well, they had to go Mess with it and make it a lousy product. They used to give you the choice of maps but now they have some totally useless, utterly absolutely, can I make it more clear? Their "map" is a total joke. Give us back the choice of which preferred map we want to see. Also, I have to CONSTANTLY change my search back to safe since it CONSTANTLY changes back to moderate. Now, also Bing is constantly hijacking the searches. I blocked Bing because I hate it and it's creators and refuse to use any of their products any chance I get. Good Bye DuckDuckGo. Good try guys. Not really but... whatever.
I've loved using duck duck go, just knowing that it doesn't keep my searches unless I want to bookmark them is good for me. The oligarchical control of some providers in this field is nothing short of frightening to me. My business is my business we need to allow freedom and we need to unite against oppression.
All the time I got max of 2 pages of search results. And that is BS. I think, also I got tracked because if for e. Buy a shoes on one website then a day later i got suggestions on almost every website I visit for the same shoes. Crap
One reviewer said duckduckgo search of GLD came back as god. False: Came back as GLD etf like it should. There is just too much to gain by Alphabet and Microsoft killing competitors as they have in the past. Google corrects typing, hides results, puts results in the back of their listing and puts titles on queries to favor their political party and products and services they sell. 427 Google visits to white house in first seven years of the last administration to control the world reason enough to use any other browser.
This app worked well until the started censoring what information we could see. The only reason I used this app was to find uncensored information so I could come to my own conclusions. I have now switched to the Brave app where I can still find un doctored info.
I needed to get to a location about 50 miles in a hurry; tried GoogleMaps they wanted my life history as usual for them. Tried this site, WOW! Just plugged in "start" & "stop". Done! No history, no other info asked for!
DuckDuckGo has a rating of 2.3 stars from 223 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. DuckDuckGo ranks 234th among Search sites.
