CT Bids has garnered mixed reviews, with some customers praising the organization and smooth local pickup processes, as well as the quality of items received. However, significant concerns arise regarding inflated shipping costs, lack of communication, and perceived unfair business practices, particularly in handling payments and shipping arrangements. Many customers express frustration over high fees and delays, leading to a sense of undervaluation. Overall, while local transactions may be satisfactory, the shipping experience tends to detract from customer satisfaction, suggesting a need for improved transparency and customer support in their shipping policies.

This was my first experience and won't be my last. Everything I won at auction was exactly as described. My in-law's are thrilled with their TV! I have been telling all my friends about it and can't wait for the next one! The people running the auction are so nice and helpful. They really make the adventure even more fun!
Thank-you So much!

Just bid on this site for the first time. The workers were very pleasant and helpful. My experience with them was great!
Clearly stated on their website to contact said person for any questions. Made multiple attempts to do so...crickets.
You want to charge a 15% buyers fee? Thus was designed for auction houses to help pay the bills. The majority of items are on-site. What additional fees do you incur? Imagine going to an estate sale and being told there is a 15% buyers fee. Oh yes, plus an additional 7% in taxes. Pure rubbish.
You can bid, but the pickup is on Wednesday between 1-3. Seriously? Most people are doing what they call "work" during these ridiculous windows.
Please consider a traditional estate sale company for your needs. Nine out of ten estate sale goers agree.

I didn't see proxy bidding. Bud & watched my bud auto rise. When over, they kept adding time & increasing bid.
I bid on a stereo receiver. I won the auction 3 times. With less than a min on clock you kept moving it back to 5 min. That got me bidding more and more money. Shame on you! That's illegal
They lie and are deceptive about the items they sell. I bid on some earrings displayed nicely in a box with the caveat that they were all paired and what I received was a bag of old, dirty junk. When I called the franchise owner (Julie) and confronted her with the potential "bait and switch", she wrote the corporate office a letter and suspended my account - company-wide. The corporate office is no help. They do not care about their bidding customers and have not bothered to reach back out to me after 2 phone calls. Don't waste your money with this bidding site.
In Southern California. I bought a bowl for $17 in September. Was told it would cost $50 to ship because it was so heavy but it was beautiful and I got a deal. I paid, since it was on me to consider this. It never arrived. Several weeks went by and I called. They apologized and said they were busy but would send it right away. Weeks later, I got an email that it had been "found" and was on it's way. You guessed it-weeks went by and no bowl. October 10th I got an email that it was "found" and was on it's way. As a sorry they refunded my $50. End of October I emailed again and was told it was on it's way. End of November I sent an angry email asking what happened to my bowl. Got an email with a copy of a receipt saying they sent $30 to my Paypal for "broken bowl". Sent an email asking what happened-no explanation, no response. So I'm not out any money, but it was a lot of trouble for nothing. Will never use them again.
I have won numerous auctions with ctbids and been very happy. However, a new person took over. I won an auction and when I went to pay noticed a $10 handling fee. When I reached out and told her I was picking it up there must be a mistake as I've only paid the sellers 15% premium before which is understandable, she told me they were losing money on the auctions and corporate told them add a handling fee. So basically I'm paying almost 30% in fees above the cost of the item.
I am a picker. It's not uncommon for me to spend several hundred dollars at all of her in person sales. It's a shame because of this she has lost me as a customer completely. No online or in person sales ever again.
Writing this as I stuck in the driveway because no one is directing traffic. I've even had the woman running the show see I'm blocked in, respond to me and say it's going to be a bit. I wouldn't have been so upset if I hadn't bought and paid for items, drove over and item and found out 2/3 of the items I bought weren't for sale. I was told I could go through the stuff that didn't sell but my response was I would have bought the items if I wanted them. I would have bid on other items to make sure my hour drive was worth it. Super let down and super annoyed to be stuck in the driveway for over 20 minutes now.
Won a necklace was supposed to be 10k it wasn't, shipping and other charges total rip off. Won't do again.
We have been buying from CTBids for years; first when they held the live in person sales and then due to COVID online, we have purchased a lot of great items and at great prices.
We recently bought a huge lot from Connecticut CT Bids. And had to travel Almost 5 hours, the seller had sold one of my items to someone else, luckily I waited around to get it back since they didn't offer a refund, just expected me to walk away; I won't travel outside of my local Caring Transitions Auctions again, it's too risky, they won't provide boxes or even newspaper to wrap our breakables.
I have purchased several items from various estate auctions on this site and have been disappointed with every purchase. I bid and won several items during a short time which is why I didn't stop buying when I realized I was being ripped off. The photos are deceiving. Items look better than they are when you receive them. I mainly purchase of designer clothes, purses, shoes, and vintage. I have gotten fakes, many misrepresented items, or just things that are falling apart and should never have been sold. When I mean falling apart, purses where the front looks good but the back (not shown in their photos is ripped, torn, etc). Leather items look nice but when you receive them are dry, cracked, and smell musty and old. The shipping is all about mystery pricing. I bought a medium size box of shirts and the shipping was $99.00. I would have expected to pay about $30.00 for shipping from any other auction. It seems that $99.00 to $150.00 is average for shipping and handling. It's CRAZY! You just get a bill in your inbox after you pay for the initial auction. There is no breakdown of charges, just whatever the shipper wants to charge you. It says for handling, materials, etc. but it's just a box. They don't fold, pack anything neatly, mix dirty shoes in with the designer clothing. It is a mess. I was truly horrified that someone put charge for packing items like this. I have stopped buying from them and chalked it up to a lesson learned.
BEWARE! If you win an auction for an item that has to be shipped you WILL pay $$$$$! Between the fees (which I totally understand) you have to pay for the seller to take to UPS. Not sure why UPS can't pick up as it does everywhere else but ok. Won 2 auctions and paid around $200 for them ( which I felt was a descent deal) but just got an "estimate" from UPS. Shipping will be $238! WHAT?! Shipping cost more than items. It is wasn't for my kids birthday I would've said to shove it as money is so tight right now. SO disappointed and will NEVER do this again.
I paid their invoice and opted to have the items ship. The items were never shipped and there was no communication. If you do take the chance and buy from them, use paypal as they refunded my money. This is the info for whom I dealt with:

So far not impressed with my friend's auction. Would have been better off to sell the lot to auctioneer and be done with it. We shall see. Also everyone saying hassle to sign up.
Won an auction for clothing that read luxury / designer brands. Out of 30 pieces, the majority went straight into the donation bag for the local thrift store (worn so many times with snags and stains). There were about 5 out of the 30 that I kept. Bad experience!
Description of item was completely wrong, they charge for everything $10. Just to drop off at a shipping center. When I tried to work something out. (Being a nice guy) they only screenshot their shipping policy. Not once acknowledged there fault. Anyways stay away at least the CT in VA.
This highly rated company is superb at doing online estate sales. Not only is the company's owner highly professional but is very meticulous in ensuring that every aspects of the estate sale operations is thorough and concise from start to finish. The company's owner Paul and its staff are very honest, trustworthy and hardworking and you can be assure at the end of the auction they will clear out your estate without a drop in efficiency. All I can say is that I guarantee you will be impressed and pleased with this company's performance. I highly recommend them to friends and family.
I won two auctions recently and they never sent the invoices so I could pay for the items. I emailed the email on the "contact us" page and got an email back from a Brad Kuane. He said the invoices went out the night before at about 8:30. I told him I didn't get any invoices, there are no invoices listed in the invoice section on my profile, yet profile shows I won two items, I checked my spam folder, re-checked my email on my profile and it was good. Brad never got back to me nor would he re-send an invoice or a link so I could pay for my "wins". I think they didn't get what they were hoping for and decided to not send any invoices so they could sell the items elsewhere for more money. Terrible experience and will stick with Ebay from here on out.
Unless you HAVE to use this site. Do not do it. Have them collect your items and find another way to sell. My dads estate items sold for a tiny amount compared to what the resale worth would have been on eBay. Example, they sold ALL my dads Lenox lighthouses for almost nothing, ALL 6 of them. Watercolor paintings that sold for over $150-$600 on other sites, sold for $50 and under on CT BIds. My fathers Dept 56 $#*!en's Collection sold for between $3 and $47 at the most when many of the houses sold for over $100 and more on eBay. I would not recommend this site for selling your families items unless you have NO choice. See photos for only a few examples of what my dads items sold for. I have many more
Answer: You can't. Once you place a bid that's it. You can't decrease it.
Answer: CUSTOMER SERVICE IS ALMOST NONE EXIXTANT. IF YOU CANT COME TO SOME TYPE OF RESOLUTION WITH THE FRANCHISE OWNER YOU BOUGHT THE ITEM THROUGH... YOU MAY NOT GET ANY RESOLUTION UNLESS YOU TAKE THEM TO SMALL CLAMES COURT OR REPORT THEM TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. ALOT OF THESE FRANCHISE OWNERS BIT OFF WAY MORE THAN THEY COULD CHEW AND CANT HANDLE THE WORK LOAD. THEY THOUGHT THEY WOULD HAVE A STEADY BUSINESS BUT REALIZED AFTER THE FACT THAT THEY HAVE TO PUT IN A LOT MORE HOURS THAN EXPECT IT AND DONT HAVE TIME TO DEAL WITH YOU AND DEFFINITLY NOT YOUR QUESTIONS OR DISSATISFACTION. AND FORGET ABOUT IT IF THEY SCREWED UP AND ACCIDENTLY DONATED YOUR ITEMS OR PACKED YOUR ITEMS POORLY AND THEY BROKE DURING SHIPPING. YOU NEED TO BE CAREFULL WHICH FRANCHISE YOU BID WITH AND ASK QUESTIONS FROM PEOPLE THAT MAY KNOW. JUST LIKE YOU ARE NOW. I TRYED TO FIGURE OUT CUSTOMER SERVICE WHEN I HAD A PROBLEM WITH A FRANCHISE OWNER AND IT WAS A NIGHTMARE. THAT OWNER SCREWED ME. IT WENT ON FOR MONTHS. HONESTLY IT IS HARD GETTING A GOOD NUMBER OF THESE FRANCHISE OWNERS TO EVEN RESPOND TO YOU.
Answer: Not sure what you mean by less expensive... do you mean, to sell through them, or buy from them? It's auction, so the sales price depends on the item and how badly someone wants it! As for what they charge, you would be best to seek out a local competitor, as not all of the estate liquidation type companies are national. CTBids is franchised territorially, so the quality of their listings is dependent on the host.
Answer: VERY LEGIT. I GOT MY ITEMS QUICLY WITH NO PROBLEM WHAT SO EVER... I WAS VERY HAPPY WITH THIS FRANCHISE
