CT Bids Reviews Summary

CT Bids has garnered mixed reviews, with some customers praising the organization and smooth local pickup processes, as well as the quality of items received. However, significant concerns arise regarding inflated shipping costs, lack of communication, and perceived unfair business practices, particularly in handling payments and shipping arrangements. Many customers express frustration over high fees and delays, leading to a sense of undervaluation. Overall, while local transactions may be satisfactory, the shipping experience tends to detract from customer satisfaction, suggesting a need for improved transparency and customer support in their shipping policies.

Don't buy from Winchester VA
December 5, 2023

I purchased earrings and it took over a month to receive them. I had to email or call to get them to create a shipping invoice, then to put the charge through on my credit card, then to create a shipping label, and even then it took nine days, two emails, and a complaint to CTBIDS customer support for them to finally take it to the post office. Never once did they answer my emails or phone calls.

BEWARE! Thieves!
November 20, 2023

When you purchase items you intend to ship they do not give you any indicationof what shipping might cost but claim it will be fair. When you win the item they take your money for the item immediately. Then a few days later they tell you the shipping cost. You either pay that or forfeit the original cost of the item. They charged me TWENTY DOLLARS to ship 12 small coins! This website is an absolute SCAM! Avoid at all costs!

While doing research, I found several bad reviews for Ctbids.com, however, I learned each location is franchised owned. I won 2 auctions with Caring Transitions of Garden City. Rachel Rohn was wonderful. Responsive to emails and questions and even arranged for an alternate time to pickup our items. Upon pickup, all of our delicate items were already wrapped and packaged up. Rachel asked that we open each package and inspect everything. All items were as described and just as pictured. As in all franchises, you have your good and bad. Rachel is part of the good!

Retracted all my bids!
November 6, 2023

Worst site I have ever used. They retracted all my bids on a recent auction claiming I wasn't a verified user even though they have my credit card on file and a customer service representative even called me a couple weeks ago. Avoid at all costs.

Items broken
July 28, 2023

I am already tired of contacting number of people to complain about the item I received that is broken.
This location is at Elk City Ok and I do not get any action since I brought up this issue. They have been telling me that there will be someone who will call me but there is none.
Is there a way or there is NO way I can refund my money?
You see, shipping fee was debited on my card but the handling on their end is very very poor. No matter how expensive the shipping is, I paid for it. What an insult!
I just feel that I was conned by Ct Bids because of my issue.
I do not accept your response that "there will be someone who will be contacting me" or "I will forward this email to the location where you won the auction"

I have been screwed over time after time by this website. Each seller is allowed to make their own policies which are hidden in an essay of text below the listings. Be prepared to follow these policies to a tee or these sellers will keep your purchase and your money. Many sellers charge ridiculous shipping and handling fees. The shipping costs are not disclosed on the listing and they can charge you whatever they want after you have purchased an item. Be prepared to pay 25+ dollars for shipping on even the smallest of lots.

My final straw for this website was when I had something come up and I was unable to make an auction pickup, the seller donated 80$ dollars worth of purchases and kept my money. I had been a loyal customer for this particular branch of CT bids for many months and they did not hesitate to throw me under the bus. As far as I can tell the website has no protection for buyers in situations like this.

With sellers being allowed to do whatever they want and no protection for buyers from CT bids I have decided that this website is just not worth the risk.

I won about 10 lots from them. FIrst off, their bidder's premium is much higher than any other auction company I have dealt with, but I saw some items I wanted. SO MANY of the items were damaged. Most of the glassware lots I bought had damaged pieces, like a mug lot with 4 of the 6 having major cracks and one's handle was barely attached with glue, a lot of vases all had chips, some other decorative items were broken, and the lots that were not broken, like vintage items, were caked with dirt like they'd been in a shed for years. Some are not able to be washed due to the types of items, (think vintage puzzles, games, dolls) the items needing batteries that I paid a pretty penny for did not work, and some leather shoes I bought are literally so old they're cracked an unwearable. None of this was visible in the photos or mentioned. They got me for almost 400.00! NEVER AGAIN

Unorganized
July 12, 2023

I was bidding on 10 lots. I ended up winning them all. Unfortunately I only received 8 as 2 lots of items were LOST. I was offered my $ back, but not the point! When I arrived for pick up the directions were null and there was NO signage. The lots I won were in boxes with other peoples stuff. We had to search for my stuff and never found 2 lots. I will never attend another auction with this seller, It was so badly organized. Buyer beware and check your stuff. One of the lots I won was sealed in a box and MISSING 4 items. Open your boxes and check everything!

I have won several local bids, and they have all been seamless. Everyone at the pickup from CT is kind, and the whole endeavor is very organized.
On the other hand, I have won several bids that needed to be shipped, and as others have mentioned, their fees are EXORBITANT. They clearly don't want to offer shipping but know they have to in order to get more attention, and therefore bids, to their sale. I was charged almost $200 shipping on a flat box that was large-ish but weighed less than 20 lbs. That's outrageous. And that was on top of the 18% fee from the site and an additional handling fee. Plus, I've had shipments take over three weeks to be sent.
So long story short, sometimes worth it for local sales but rarely worth it for shipping unless you really, really want the item or get it for next to nothing.

Some item desciptions not accurate. Bidding pushed up but actual clients or online customers not recieving a decent value for items sold (& disappearing- taken) through CT Bids services franchise owners. Some do a better than others, but many lack experience & professional credetionals or integity! Bottomline? A rip off for clents & sincere customers looking for deals to resell or for personal collections!

I won many items this month for my store. Many orders arrived broken after paying HUGE shipping prices. Your dealing with some people that are unrated and don't know what they are selling. You don't know who your buying from i just won 4 antique decanters cut crystal. They packed them in paper one next to the other and a few other items I won and everything was broken into pieces.

After I tried to collect my purchase from Mrs. Bird, she sold my item again and tried to keep the money that I paid for the item as well. She then told the district office that I failed to pick up the item and that I should have my bidding privileges revoked indefinitely. The district office run by Mr. Lewandowski proceeded to revoke my privileges and when I contested the process, he contacted Mrs. Bird who then told him that I threatened her by requesting her business address so I could report her and CTBIDS to the Better Business Bureau. This entire program is one giant scam to get as much money as possible from both the sellers and the buyers as well as collect commissions on each sale of up to 20%.
If you value your time and money DO NOT bid on this site as inevitable you will find that your paid for an item that you never can collect especially if you miss the small window, they provide to pick it up. If you do bid, do not bid on anything that Mrs. Bid is involved with as she is by far one of the worst perpetrators of this scam.
Finally, the district office run by Mr. Lewandowski will never side with the buyer and always side with their people running the auctions regardless of the proof you have to the contrary. He is part of the problem and not the solution so beware of this part of the scam as well.
NEVER EVER BID HERE!

Not buying from them anymore, I used to buy since 6 years ago but now the charge $10 to $20 for "handling" plus shipping. Don't get me wrong, I know shipping has gone up buy last time, shipping 2 cuffs and a pin (maybe 8 oz total lot weigh at most and each cuff no larger than 3" x 1") the "shipping charge was $29.90 and not shipped carefully just put in a plastic bag with paper on top and bottom.
They specify "Shipping is expensive" instead they should say "Shipping has increased but we will overcharge you"
Be careful if you buy and need shipping, once you buy you don't have another option than pay or lose your items

Some seem confused...
April 26, 2023

I first encountered CT in the Reno area. They were the go to group for estate sells, or moving sales. From a customer standpoint, I now am in California, it is pretty basic. I enter a zip code, you can search nationwide for specific items as well, and the sales within x number of miles come up. The items, or lots, are shown in multiple photos and you bid for the items, starting at a buck. They have everything from vintage toys to beautiful furniture, even cars.

If it is a hot item then buds might go up, or you may pay a dollar for a china cabinet. You can put in an amount you are willing to go to and it will respond to other bids, a buck at a time, to the amount you authorized. The email and text updates on the auction, which can be over a few days or a month or more. Some items do have a minimum reserve and that makes sense. They have jewelry that, I know because we bought some in Japan, would go for $12k. The reserve was far below that.

This is an online estate sale, it isn't Harrah's in London, nor a park full of thieves selling bikes for ten bucks because they 'found' it the night before. I know some are above buying used items but I live a deal. I also like taking something that gave someone great joy and use it, maybe they live on a bit as "that old hammer should do work" from their hands to mine. Some things I could never afford.

I think it is great fun and I have found beautiful art pieces and tools that I cleaned up and use. CT, Caring Transitions, is a group of small business owners, I have dealt with three of them, and all have been top notch and friendly folks. Just remember, another persons treasure may be yours, and then your grandkids. Oh, some things that I find other that the jewelery and furniture are tools, record albums, electronics, pots, cookware, collectables (some, like Olympic pins and coins or Stamps), fishing gear, cleaning stuff, art supplies. I dig it! If not your bag then why slam them? I may not like what you like... does not mean you are icky.

The sellers are fraudulent. They use one fake account and one real ID. The fake one is to inflate the price and then in the end pull out from the commitment to buy. This way when the second highest bidder wins they call the person. If the person accepts the inflated price they sell it to him if not then they have the lower bidder (themselves) with a really lower price.
The corporate office is aware of this and they do not do anything about it. So the sellers and the corporate are fraudulent people.
STAY AWAY AND IF YOU ARE A VICTIM TALK TO A LAWYER SO THEY REPORT THEM TO THE AUTHORITIES. Bid rigging is illegal.

Last week I was bidding on a small bedroom set in Bethel Park, PA. I had an amount in mind what I was willing to pay. As the clock counted down I started bidding only to have another "person" bidding against me. After each bid more minutes were added on. I became quite frustrated so I gave up. WHAT A SURPRISE WHEN THE EXACT SAME BEDROOM SET SHOWED UP THIS WEEK IN AN AUCTION IN CASTLE SHANNON, PA! I feel this was very deceitful and it's a real shame that they trick people with this business scam. I am going to report this practice, and I bet the item disappears from the site. BIDDERS BEWARE! I wouldn't buy anything from them. That is not an auction, that is a SCAM!
