I do not usually write reviews, but I had to let off some steam. I purchased a consumer cellular Nokia 400 phone less than a year ago along with their $20 a month plan, as I do not use the phone much. Their advertisements sounded great. Boy was that a mistake! The $20 plan is actually over $27, as they blame the difference on taxes, 35%? Their big AARP discount is 5% or One dollar. The plan includes only one g.b. Of data. If you should go over that minuscule amount. They hit you with substantial charges. Of course, I could get their $ 50-a-month plan before taxes and get unlimited talk, text, and data.
When I tried to return the phone within their return time period, they said this only applies to new customers, Apparently I had a consumer cellular account SEVEN years ago and was not considered a new customer. I can not even bring my phone to another carrier as the several I contacted did not accept my phone. Even consumer cellular would not take their/my phone as a trade-in. As I subsequently, found there are several other carriers offering plans for about a true $30 a month.
I signed up for their unlimited plan. Right away i figured out they were using T-mobile towers when the phone would not even work in a parking lot and the internet doesnt seem to work anywhere
My mom had Consumer Cellular for a couple of years. The overall home phone coverage was awful. There was a constant "clicking" noise during calls. She had constant interruptions in service. Customer service was just equally as bad. They say their customer service is based in the U.S. which I seriously doubt given my conversations with their reps. My mom switched providers for her home and mobile services. What a nightmare! Despite being told multiple times she had been released, service continued through Consumer Cellular. THEY ARE STILL WITHDRAWLING MONEY FROM HER BANK ACCOUNT MONTHS AFTER BEING TOLD SERVICE HAS STOPPED. It's been a battle. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND CONSUMER CELLULAR TO ANYONE. THEY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF SENIORS.
For 4 months now after installing SIM card I have been unable to pay online or try to change password to get into account, today I talked with tec from hell "Mykhel" talked over me around me through me it is customer error my fault I've paid online for 4 years up to new SIM card install but its customer error the rudest person of any customer service going to look for new provider today there would be another in the unemployment line if it was up to me, rude rude rude. Hope her bonus is nil this year maybe self help class, anger issues, but whomever can listen to my call
Consumer Cellular is not only the worst cellular company I've ever worked with, they are the worst "company" I've ever worked with. And I went through quite a hassle to switch over to Verizon.
STAY AWAY!
My mom has had Consumer Cellular service for a while now I believe. This problem seems to be a new one, but the issue NEVER gets resolved, which is the ultimate problem in the first place. My mom is 70, and just wants a plain, simple telephone with absolutely no frills, internet, etc. She simply just wants a phone to call and receive calls from and keeps reading articles in the AARP magazines about Consumer Cellular. The first issue that arose was from her phone not being able to go through and reach me. That problem just got resolved and now the opposite issue is happening, where when I use my cell phone to call my mom, it goes straight to; "I'm sorry, but the person you have called has a voicemail that has not been set up yet". Goodbye. Then hangs up. My mom has tried reaching customer service to help resolve these matters. She's spoken to many reps and finally just got the first issue resolved recently. Now, this is happening. I called and spoke to a woman on 1/17/24 and she tried a few things to resolve this matter for us, but still said that this issue is not on their end or my mom's phone. She also suggested that my mom purchase the "Verve Snap" phone, but all they have left are a few refurbished ones selling for $49.99. I asked my husband who works in telecommunications, and he said that there is someone that should be able to help us through CC's service. It is NOT on our end, when I am able to call everyone but my mom. This is so frustrating, especially for some of the older generations of individuals that just want "simple". That particular rep told me that the "VERVE SNAP" is actually being discontinued as well. I don't understand why no one can help us resolve this matter! I might as well convince my mom to try a different service that WILL help her and myself in the future.
Had to discontinue service with CC and switch to another provider. Spent 3.5 hrs total 1st day because their Rep "Chris" (inconsiderate, negligent, idiot!) who dropped both our phone services (before they were ported) and then deliberately dropped our call because he was so confused what to do. Had to call back to restart cellular services and repeat with another rep. Then, 2nd day to finish the porting/transfer of service, the porting numbers they gave us would not work. Took me and the new provider a total of another 2.75 hrs on the phone with their reps as to what is wrong on their end. CC sent multiple porting numbers trying to get their system to work. Consumer Cellular is a TOTAL MESS and most of their reps seem ignorant as to fixing their own system problems. A total of 6.25 hrs dealing with CC trying to port our 2-phone service over to Spectrum. (Guess they were really pissed at me leaving after 7 yrs. And wanted to really screw-me-to-the-wall, and they did!) If it were not for the persistence of Spectrum Mobile, we would never have gotten our numbers ported over to Spectrum.
"Consumer Cellular's system and their inadequately-trained reps are not worth the lower cost service they advertise."
This company overcharges, then charges again to help you get it straightened out. Connectivity is NOT good. Customer service is also bad. Much as I hate to move yet again, I'm going elsewhere.
I am a single mom and trying to find ways to cut down on any of my bills. I don't normally use much data, so I thought I could save if I switch to Consumer Cellular. My first month was good but then after a couple of months, my monthly bill went up higher and higher and I ended up paying more than what I used to pay with another service provider. But that was not my only problem, when I needed to call or text my son, my calls and text messages did not go through, so I could not reach him. When I needed driving instruction, it did not work. I felt like having my phone was useless. Yesterday, I decided it was time to switch, so I contacted them to request for the transfer pin. The first representative I talked was okay, but she was not very kind in providing that. Unfortunately, my son did not receive the transfer pin. So I called again, and after being put on hold for about 30 mins., I finally got someone on the other end. Unfortunately, she was very mean and started yelling at me and how my transfer pin numbers have been sent. I told myself, "I'm glad I decided to switch"! If they cannot treat me with respect now, then they will not treat me with respect later. These people should remember to treat their customers with kindness and respect; they never know those customers might decide to come back later on if they received excellent customer service. But apparently, they are just going to be nasty.
FOR 3 MONTHS KEPT SENDING BILL TO WRONG ADDRESS KEPT CALLING AND THOUGHT WE FIX FOR MY 81 YR OLD MOTHER WHO IS HANDICAP AND NEEDS A PHONE ON YHE 4 TH MONTH THEY TURNED IT OFF FOR NOT PAYING BILL WAS SENT AGAIN TO WRONG ADDRESS. SENIORS FIND ANOTHER COMPANY WHO ACTUALLY CARES ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS.WORST EXPERIENCE WITH ANY PHONE COMPANY
Consumer Cellular has really went downhill. Customer service and management are very rude and argumentative. Do yourself a favor, and do business elsewhere. You'll be glad you did.
I have been using Consumer Cellular for 7 years. It is the best cell phone service I have ever used. Customer Service is outstanding. Cost is half what other services charge!
I was a long term customer of Consumer Cellular. Years and years of calling for help by those "pleasant" customer service representatives for things as simple as paying my bill to issues with phones bought through the company. They sell used phones as new and the long, long, long hold times when attempting to resolve an issue with a phone take frustration to a whole new level. They have a way of telling you more of what they can't do than what they actually can. Please, please, please do not be fooled by the new advertisements on tv. As a senior citizen, I am appalled at the lengths they are using to try to restore their reputation. I'm also very disgusted with the fact that the JD Power award has been given to them year after year. I called JD Power and they tell me that there are more positive reviews than negative... LOL have they read them? All of them? I suspect that most of the positive reviews are paid reviews. I also believe in honesty, integrity and transparency. None of which this company holds precious. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Caveat Emptor!
I was totally taken advantage of. You need to watch them like a hawk to avoid being taken advantage of. At all cost DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER for monthly payment.
I'm very disappointed in you CC. I'm going back to Verizon.
*DONT SWITCH SERVICES *
I called Consumer Cellular after commercials came on every 5 mins. ( That should have been a clue) I finally called and waited on the line for about 10 mins. When he answered (Matthew) he asked me " How many lines will you need" I told him that I just needed 1 line but that I wanted to switch from my Company and that I had a nervous condition and needed him to listen because I could tell he wasn't listening but reading a script. He immediately got an attitude and said I need to call back another time.
I'm so glad that I didnt switch. This lets me know what I would be dealing with in the future. These people PREY on Senior Citizens and should be banned. Very disrespectful.
I got this phone for my now dead uncle who died suddenly and I contacted this scamming company and was shock that I have to pay for 3 months more service even though I stop my service this has never happened with the major carriers but these scam airtst are I have sent a complaint to the justice department to start a investigation
It was fine for a couple of months. Then my phone wouldn't make or take calls. No data, so no directions while driving, no music or texts. Same with my husbands phone. After many calls to CC (many hours on the phone) and trying many things, they told me I could pick either phone calls and text or data and picture texts but not both. This went on for 2 1/2 months. After more calls they got most of it worked out but still couldn't make calls sometimes and my husbands phone would only send or receive texts on wifi. So 7 months now and I had my bank charge back 2 months. They got back one month from the bank by showing that we could make some calls and text some. Then they turned off our service for the month that our bank gave us and said if we wanted it turned back on that we had to pay that month back plus a $5 late fee. I called them to try and work this out because why should I pay for the full service when only getting about 1/3 of the service? They said that since we got "some" service that they could not give us any money back. So much for their top notch customer service and great prices. Going to Mint Mobile!
They promised us the world they promised us the Moon they told us everything was good we were going to get a new phone two lines and all was good we were just waiting on the phones to be shipped after 2 days they sent an email and called us and told us that they had decided to cancel our activation for no reason at all after we spent money signed a contract with them and bought a case that we didn't need offline for $100. We still haven't got our money back from them that they got from us which is around $600. I personally think they should reimburse me for $100 case that I had bought after they told me everything was good and we had signed contracts. They renewed on their own contract for no reason. Don't be crazy or stupid enough to mess around with these people all you're going to get is a bunch of lies stay away stay away stay away stay away.btw I don't think this is legal and I intend on talking to an attorney about decrement conduct and them cancelling a signed contract for no reason.
Voice to text or email. Extremely Bad. Takes forever and misspells Most of the time. If you use your phone for Facebook, texting or emailing. Choose another Carrier. You get what you paid for.
Consumer cellur is a scam. Poor customer service, when you can get it. Automated sytem won;t take youe code, so no customer service. Not acessable to seniors who are not tech savay or can't put in a code. They wn't send. Final invoice. After repeat;y telling them that sign in. Says call. I cmceled service still auto billing me. I called my bank and deputed the charge. Very poor company a ripoff. Rude reps. Stairway!
Answer: You can get a hold of them but it's a moot point given the service they provide
