This school is absolutely amazing. They truly care about their students education and future. My child has surpassed my expectations through the help of SC Connections Academy really thinks about and cares about your children's future. Also, they care about what and how your child feels. This is the best decision I could have ever made about my sons future. Thank you SC Connections Academy
I have 2 sons who have been attending since elementary and they love Connections Academy. One already graduated and was well prepared for college! I have been extremely satisfied with the curriculum and the content in the weekly Live Lessons provided by their teachers. I am actively involved in their education and love being able to view the curriculum for the semester, view my students' gradebook and teachers' message boards. The school provides a wealth of resources which has directly contributed to my boys' academic success.
Hi Lucy, Wow, over eight years! We hope that your son, who has graduated, does great in college! And we hope that your son, who is still with us, continues to thrive! ~Alexis
Best choice for our daughter, other than a charter school. Questions we had were all answered. Enrollment was easy. Teachers & Counselors are great to work with. The website for parents & guardians is easy to use. Our daughter is very happy choosing this school. Extra curricular activities outside the school have been creative. The variety of clubs vary & lots to choose from. Thank you for providing tjis online school service!
Thank you for leaving your review, Martha! We love to hear about when our students take full advantage of all the socialization opportunities we offer! ~Alexis
The faculty worked with myself and my child through a very difficult year they were compassionate, very helpful with missed lessons, providing counseling and guidance and understanding helping with school work and outside tragedies they are great and we look forward to working with them in the fall
Hi Jane, We're sorry to hear that you had a difficult time in your life, but are grateful to hear that our staff was able to help your family through it. Thank you for sharing. ~Alexis
I chose Connections Academy for my sophmore daughter after she decided she did not want to return to our local public school. Huge mistake. Both of my sons had attended a different online school for 3 years and had very little trouble. Connections academy is terrible. The lessons are terrible, the staff is terrible and there's no flexibility in scheduling. My daughter went back to public school before the end of her sophmore year because it was so bad..
This is our first year at Connections Academy.
My son is autistic and was struggling in public and private schools. It was a great decision to try online school. My son is more happier. He is learning and improving academically. The school is providing OT, Speech and behavior therapy. His teacher Ms Eastep is very professional and over the top. I truly recommend this school to parents who their kids are struggling to attend regular schools. My son used to be bullied every day. I am glad we are part of this amazing school. Their customer and technical service do an outstanding job if you need help and support.
I just registered my son for next year 2024 and I truly recommend this school to parents who their kids struggled in public school. What a fabulous school
I'm so sorry to hear that your son was bullied in his former schools. It's great that he's settling in well at Connections Academy. We want every student to feel safe, welcome, and respected! ~Alexis
With my child being bullied treated poorly in public school he was so afraid of school but we found Alca and he's learning everyday and is excited about school, we love that we are able to do school at his pace and absolutely love the teachers! Best decision we ever made!
Hi Sarah, We're so relieved to hear that your student is able to complete his schoolwork in a safe environment that works for him, especially after what he experienced at his local school. ~Alexis
I know everyone probably doesn't have a bad experience with them, but I can say my experience with them was awful. They are not good at communicating back with the parents and they kept rejecting the documents they were asking for, which led to my daughter missing the deadline, when I started the process a month prior to all of this. I wouldn't recommend this online school. Or at least they school better communicate.
Hi Jacqueline, We're sorry to hear that you had a negative experience with the enrollment process. We tried to reach out to you privately but did not hear back. Since we are a public school, there are specific documents that we are required to collect by the state during the enrollment process. We aim to be as transparent as possible with the required documentation and the upcoming deadlines, with information being posted on all accounts as well as on the website. We will forward your feedback to our enrollment department. ~Alexis
My son and I enjoy being a connections academy family. This school has been the best choice I have made for my sons education. The teachers are very patient and caring for the kids that I highly recommend any parent to enroll in this school.
Hi Alicelis, We're glad to hear that you and your son enjoy being part of Connections Academy! ~Alexis
I was one of those kids that didn't pay attention in school, didn't do homework and just hated school. I needed more help than most kids and never got it from school. That was untill Connections Academy! They got me the help I needed. Everytime I had a problem I easily called and got help. All the teachers were nice unlike the public school I went to. I had the mind set once I reached 16 years old I was going to drop out. Then my mother signed me up here and that thought changed. I finished school, graduated in "2012", which honestly never thought I would do and VERY grateful for them because A LOT of jobs want a high school diploma or G. E. D.
Thank You All at Connections Academy!
Horrible time consuming. Many resubmitted documents stating they could not read or did not get. United organized as to all complete documents were needed. At the time of request, which cold have saved extra foot work. Anntime. Numerous on hold call transfers. Kinda gives MA an bad idea of what will it be like if student is doing the online school. Think I will pass on connections academy till they get better organized. They need a local brick office for parents to submit important documneta. Just not organized naff for me.
Our children have been with Oregon Connections Academy (ORCA) since the beginning; 8 years now for our oldest (7th grade)... Assistant principal and home room teacher seem to be backing each other up in blaming a highly motivated student with blocking her own classes. We have spent endless hours with tech support, to no avail. This school will be losing two long term students and yet they seem not to care. I have sent endless webmails to the home room teacher as has my daughter often with no response. Blaming the student for their incompetence does nothing towards wanting to learn! Learning is not their criteria, saving themselves as bad educators seems paramount!
After considerable deliberation and recommendations from another family member, I enrolled my daughter with Connections Academy. Everyone that we have spoken to from SCCA has been amazing! They respond quickly, keep parents informed and up to date, extremely helpful...there just aren't enough words to describe how pleased we've been. My daughter's grades for the 22-23 school year have been significantly higher than her previous 2 years of high school. I would and have recommended CA to other parents who were considering online home school options.
Hi Jennifer, Wow! We're proud of your daughter for doing so well at SCCA! Thank you for the recommendation! ~Alexis
My child was ignored or muted by teachers. Wasn't given the educational materials she needed. Her assigned laptop didnt work for 90% of the assignments and online textbooks. We gave them 100 days before giving up. The teachers are poor and uninvolved. I cannot speak to their materials because here we are in February, we enrolled last July, and we still dont even have all the books. Shame on you Connections. My bright 1st grade child has to be in remedial classes now, when she started the school year ahead and full of hope.
Hi Brooke. I am so sorry to hear that your student had a difficult time at Connections Academy. I understand your frustration when it comes to your student’s materials. We did have challenges getting materials to families because of pandemic-related supply and shipping issues but tried to provide eTexts and materials whenever possible.
Our teachers value the opportunity to develop a personal relationship with each student and their learning coach, and I am sorry that was not your experience. It sounds like your student is no longer enrolled in our school, but if she is, I would love to connect you with someone who can address your concerns. Please send me an email at community@connectionsacademy.com if you would like me to put you in contact with someone to help, or if you would like to provide specific feedback with school administrators. ~Regina
They only want the federal funding.
The "teachers" wanted to be worshiped as the parents/learning coaches do their job apparently. My child failed and the teacher took great pleasure in him failing.
Thank God I took precautions in December so Mrs. Roy (hint hint) Biv could not power play and hold my child back a grade.
Read all the comments before enrolling your child, and don't give the school the benefit of doubt. Go to FB and see the growing movement against charter schools stealing federal money away from actual public schools who need funding.
Our experience has been terrible! They promised things like kids could work at their own pace and they would be supportive and this couldn't be farther from the truth! The whole reason I chose this school was because my daughter is very talented in art! But they lied about having art classes or art clubs! My daughter cries all the time now! She is in 9th grade and the work they give is so advanced and overwhelming,,, that even having a college education isn't helping me to help her! We try to contact people there at the school that are in charge in order to get help and you either get someone snooty that talks down to you or you dial the number it rings then hangs up!(tried several numbers there several times!) Not only do they pile on the overly heady workload but they also want the student to email that each assignment has been completed! Mom's beware this school is not conducive to our children's self esteem or health & wellbeing! Claudia Moore!
Hi Claudia. I’m sorry to hear that your daughter is so frustrated and unhappy, and I’d like to help. Please send me an email at community@connectionsacademy.com so we can put you in touch with someone at the school to get her support. We do have an art club for students in grades 6-12. I can give you more info about that and also about art classes once I know which school your student attends. ~Kim
If you're looking for a learning environment for your student that allows flexibility and employs a great staff, look no further! GRCA has been the best decision for our family. We are currently in our 3rd year with them and our plans are to continue until graduation. Each and every staff member goes above and beyond to help our student excel. There are clubs and activities for all interests too, along with National Junior Honor Society and other student led organizations. Do yourself and your student a favor and check out GRCA!
We love that you have taken advantage of all that Great River Connections Academy has to offer, Julie! Thank you for taking the time to leave your review! ~Alexis
From the beginning, the enrollment process is super easy-to-use and quick. The first few days of school were a learning curve but if you do the caretaker orientation and the orientation with your student it really helps! I was more confident on the first day. As of now we completed the first semester and my son who is autistic and adhd is doing well in special education program. His subjects are tailored to his needs. His teachers are amazing and he has all kinds of therapies through the school to help him succeed. My daughter is also enrolled and is in mainstream education. She is doing amazing and I LOVE her teacher! Everyone is so helpful and want your child to succeed.
Hi Tawnya, We're happy to hear that you have had such a positive experience with us, starting with the enrollment process! We hope that both your son and your daughter continue to thrive here! ~Alexis
I do not take pleasure in pointing out things that can be improved... this is a kind, not upset just very over it. I will say the company or department that processes the enrollment information is a systematic deplorable disappointment... from loosing paper work to inconsistencies with each call is sad. Im not in an urgent situation regarding online education with my children but I cant imagine if I were. I am not sure if Connections Academy is aware of this but. Connexus enrollment staff istruly in need of help. Extreme embarrassment, seriously
I have 3 kids in FCA, all of them from Kindergarten, is our 5th year. We love the curriculum, the teachers, the flexibility, the time we share us a family… we love our life, and our life would no be the same without this school :): ) :)
We love that you love Florida Connections Academy so much, Adriana! Thank you for taking the time to leave a review! ~Alexis
Answer: Work at your own pace is the biggest lie out there. Supplies are usually quick to arrive though.
Answer: That is a very good question Dee. We were drawn in with that promise as well. They use exampmes of child athletes and child actors (at least they did when we were going through their website looking for schooling options) as examples of how flexible their program is but we found it to be a very different experience.
Answer: Do not put your child in this program i hate it i switched to connexus i could get more time in the gym and work out i used to spend five hours in the gym in normal school but now im only limited to one hour a day because i have so much work.the teachers never respond and its horrible they dont help me and when im at gym they call then i cant i pick up so they call my parents who are at work and will get in trouble if on there phones. I hate tis school and everyone in it and your kids will to so DO NOT DO IT! 1111
Answer: Attendance is more important to the school keeping it's Charter, than making sure a student is truly on track academically. The School has no communication skills, which is why it probably attracts lazy teachers.
Answer: I find that people take the time to vent about bad experiences rather than take the time to write reviews for good experiences. If things are working, why scour the internet for reviews. Every kiddo/parent will have a different experience with Connections Academy. Like any school program, it's not going to be right for everyone, not everyone will like a teacher, or administration or class... It's a rigorous school, not a homeschool program with lots of flexibility and curriculum that can be changed. It's working for my 7th grader, but it is hard and we wouldn't be enrolled if he didn't have me to sit by him 80% of the time. Otherwise he's getting an excellent education in Oregon and we love the teachers.
Answer: Yes, you can do you your at any time. I start at 5:00am and finish at 11:00am.
Answer: Maybe once a month. The student might get a phone call from his or her homeroom teacher on a monthly basis. Other than that, unless you or the student contact the teacher individually, then the interaction is done as a whole in the Live Lesson rooms. And so much outside stuff goes on during Live Lessons, the students do not get a lot out of them.
Answer: Hi Tina, Teachers schedule LiveLesson sessions (usually one per subject per day), and other work is done independently. Teachers are available outside of the virtual classroom for more support if needed. Outside of the LiveLesson sessions, work is done independently, and students can typically complete their schoolwork any time of the day, any day of the week. ~Alexis
Answer: Hi Malorie, Teachers schedule LiveLesson sessions (usually one per subject per week), and other work is done independently. Teachers are available outside of the virtual classroom for more support if needed. In general, there is no set time to log in outside of the LiveLesson sessions, so students can typically work any time of the day, any day of the week. For information specific to the school(s) in your state, please email us at community@connectionsacademy.com. Thanks! ~Alexis
Answer: Hi Monique, Many students with special needs thrive in online school. Can you please email us at community@connectionsacademy.com so we can connect you with the Special Education team in your state and also provide you with additional eligibility information about the school(s) in your state? Thank you! ~Alexis
